yes. Even from the the beginning, big name studios made high scoring games, but at least the truth would be revealed in the writeup. Now no one reads, so there's no reason to write.

None of those should ever matter btw

I can cherrypick too. But I'm not gonna.

Reviews almost always grade games on a curve relative to the hardware they're running on, and this is doubly true for publications that focus on a single platform. You still see it to this day and it's not just a Nintendo thing, there's channels devoted to reviewing games on the Steam Deck and they'll say shit like the game plays great if you just upscale it from 240p and use lossless scaling to turn on 4x frame gen

So dogshit the dogshittening got an above average review because it's on a tendie console?

Just because 50% was the average grade in your retarded mongoloid class in school doesn't mean 5/10 is an average score. 6.6 is below average and a far cry from 8/8.5/9 you dumb goalposting shifting nigger.

90s kid here: we were in the middle of 3d gold rush, basically any 3d game that ran and played well got a good score at the time. Everything felt exceptional if it wasn't an obvious turd like Superman 64. So many games got 9s and 10s back then simply because 3d was a huge wow factor. More so if it was even remotely fun to also play.

Also, noone owned a Saturn as it released too close to the Megadrive 2. Sega was releasing consoles too quickly, which hurt the Dreamcast too. I think if Sega didn't release multiple iterations of the MegaDrive (2, CD), Saturn may have had a better chance.

I don't know which remedial school you went to, but 66 is definitely higher than 50. Congratulations on proving the OP right though, nincel

It's still happening today. There's a spic website named nintenderos which never gives a nintendo exclusive below a 9/10 score

You are acting like this wasn't the same deal with the ps1. There were so many crappy FPSs and driving games that i remember british magazines treating like the second coming of christ and then were erased forever while the 2D games, experimental stuff, Shooters and JRPGs that according to them were holding the industry back became classics

But like >>729868954 said

3D was the cutting edge. People wanted it, even if they didn't think about the consequences. Some people wanted a 3D Castlevania and SOTN felt to them like a throwback.

Sometimes the 3D was necessary, like Mario 64. Mario pretty much achieved everything they could with 1-Island, so that was the only way truly forward for the franchise.

The PS1 was 3D though? Like I was saying, PS1 also had a bunch of highly rated games, simply because 3D was the wow factor. Every 3D game was wow unless it was abysmal.
