I'm asking if there is proper progression because just simply making it more tedious for the sake of it is stupid if there is no sense of progression. I'd rather not fall into the trap of playing for tens of hours only to realize none of the initial steps ever get any easier or more efficient.

well, once you get access to GT machinery, some elements of TFC become easier because TFG makes some TFC recipies possible with gregtech machines + greenhouses eliminate need for TFC farms and electric miners eliminate the annoying TFC mining system

Yeah GTNH is way more of a long-haul commitment. TFG starts off brutal but you can get the hang of it faster if you're used to weird survival mechanics. GTNH puts the grind in your soul-by the time you're automating stainless steel you're seeing crafting trees in your sleep. If you just want something you can casually dip into, GTNH will burn you out fast. TFG is pain early, GTNH is eternal suffering.
