Were time jannies really a necessary addition to the game?
>>
>>729878953
I thought Cloud was a soldier, just not the first class one
>>
The worst part about AI is how shitskins think every single image they generate is worthy of threads.
>>
>>729878953
Not necessary but it was a direction to take
>>
The idea is that they want players to believe the story won’t be the same as the original so the fandom can keep debating whether Aerith will survive until the trilogy is finished. I can only defend the idea itself, it’s not bad. It’s the execution that’s fucking horrible and ruined the pacing and overall story experience. If they wanted this idea to actually work, they should have kept the story faithful to the original in the first playthrough and only introduced time jannies in New Game plus and beyond.
>>
>>729878953
All they had to do and all people ever wanted them to do was just remake the game but with cool graphics and maybe expand on a few things here and there.
Instead, we got time janny bullshit.

>>729879021
No
>>
Changing the story? Fine.
Changing the story with something as retarded as the time jannies? No sir, I think that's a poor decision.
>>
I actually rather like the idea of canonizing the original storyline so that all changes must be justified against it. I think it's really clever and invites scrutiny. They could have just told the same story but changed whatever they felt like changing and hid behind "want the original story play the original."
But time jannies is a really dumb and ugly way of doing it. Timeline shit is always cheap and retarded. Wish they chose a different gimmick to achieve the same goal.
>>
>>729878953
what
>>
>>729881013
FFVII Remake has these ghost things that are trying to correct the timeline or something.
>>
>>729878953
No. The new story really isn't good in any way.
I'm not saying that original FF7 story is literary masterpiece, but it's self-contained and to the point, with very good pacing and well handled foreshadowing.
I really don't see how anybody could say it's an improvement.
>>
>>729878953
I think they are good in Remake, but their presence in Rebirth is not executed nor explained in a good way.
>>
>>729878953
yes they're a pretty funny representation of ff7 faggots
>>
>>729884441
You're the one who'll like whatever ff7 product SE wants to sell you. You are an ff7 faggot. And you deal with your blind fanboyism by pretending that the people who are capable of disliking ff7 media are the real fanboys.

If I thought Remake was a 7/10 and generally don't like nu-Square FF, is Rebirth worth getting? I've heard so many things about it being Ubisoft-like and it's turned me off a bit from checking it out, but I've also heard people say its the best FF game since FFX. Steam reviews don't look amazing...
>>
>>729885074
Everything to dislike about Remake is 100 times worse in Rebirth.
>>
>>729885187
The worst thing about Remake was shimmying sections/walking sections, and general tedium. Rebirth have that?

Yes.

No wonder your contribution to the thread was so invaluable.
>>

What about the mandatory filler content, like having to go through Corneo's sewers second time to get those grappling hooks you easily got in original game?
Or secret Shinra laboratory under Sector 7?
Or Hojo's secret funtime lab?
Was all of that avoidable?
>>
>>729885074
There is a chance you will like it more than remake. The facelift main cities got is amazing. Combat is improved.
Ubishit activites aren’t needed but some of them are tied to summon materia and a superboss, at least the protomateria quests have varied gimmicks (a tower “attack” game, fort condor, battle sims).
Side quests are as inane as ever (something commonplace among japanese games, even Nu-Zelda), but they reward you with manuscripts sometimes so it’s a coin toss if you skip them.
>>
>>729885632
Those sections gave us more time with the characters. Do you hate the characters?

I hated how the Shinra lab made Aerith's mom feel really wishy-washy and stupid.
>"Uhm, please don't save her... I am sure that giga corporation that blew up the sector is full of good people."
>half an hour later
>"Oh that giga corporation was doing bad experiments under place that they destroyed? Okay, I guess they were bad people after all."
I hated the Nomura OCs, and I think game would have been better without them.
I hated the Hojo lab because it was total pace breaker near finale of the game, and it made me conscious of not being able to play as Red XIII.
>>
>>729885802
Yeah.
I’m giving Rebirth my open world slop pass since I haven’t played asscreed in ages and the filler stuff was enjoyable sometimes. But you’ll probably be burnt out with games like that for a long while after.
The chicken side quest in Gongaga plays like shit but its ending is amusing enough it warrants an honorable mention. The rest is just be a good guy and do good things 3 times in a row.
OG FFVII was packed with intrusive mini games and they smoked Yakuza crack translating them to Rebirth. Again, most are optional or only require a low rank to progress the story.
If you go for completion or max rank in side activities it is a friggin hard game. Possibly one of the hardest platinums I’ve gotten.

People blame Nomura for everything but I bet the shitty ones like Kyrie came from Nojima and his retard novels.
The biggest crime of FFVII’s expanded universe is how shitty new characters are, it doesn’t even feel like most creative heads responsible for the original still work there, save for Sakaguchi.
>>
>>729885074
>but I've also heard people say its the best FF game since FFX
it is, but that's not really a high bar
>>
>>729886426
Sad truth. But I honestly think if they released Rebirth as FF17 with similar
Combat systems and better open world content it would’ve been better received than it was.
>>
>>729886019
Have they even made a game in 10 years? I thought they just rereleased old ones. But yeah it's sad to see a new FF7 game being as tedious as a persona game.
>>
>>729886640
Persona 5 was a 2016 release
>>
>>729886753
Damn, that long? That's how close Rebirth comes to being the most tedious game of the past 10 years. They're lucky a persona game just cinched it.
>>
>>729878953
the time jannies are just Gaia (earth) having more tools to protect itself from Sephiroth, and Sephiroth going a step further to defeat it, by going to the life stream and killing the root of the problem, something he didn't do in og. So the whole remake trilogy is just another perspective on the same story, with different plot twists but essentially the same story beats. It's all a matter of you liking meta narrative or not. The thing is that when people hear the words "time travel" they immediately frown because of so many time travel stories that sucked in the past

Is it better than FFXII? I liked that game at least even if its story was gutted too much
>>
>>729887032
If you went around doing marks and grinding in 12 you might tolerate Rebirth’s ubislop.
Keep in mind both play completely different from one another.
>>
>>729886612
desu it's very easy to fix rebirth's open world. Juts remove the damn checklists and ubisoft towers. These things make you feel like you have to 100% the area before continuing with the story, which completely ruins the pacing.
>>
>>729887121
I mostly liked the most and pacing of FFXII, it was open world but not too big and not too much walking sections & tedium but Rebirth sounds like its kinda more bloated
>>
>>729887227
It's 90% bloat. Rebirth has almost no meat. When you see people discuss it, what do you see them talk about? Nothing. A shit Dyne scene? The botched Aerith shit at the end? Who even knows what else happens? The game is probably 2 hours long if you cut away all the bloat.

>>
>>729887227
Rebirth is split in major zones. Each one has the typical ubitowers and lifesprings, which are the deadest of brain. But once you do them all you unlock a zone boss.
There are also shrines with a simon says minigame that will both empower and make a summon materia battle easier.
Then you get a handful of miniboss encounters with conditions like “don’t get poisoned” and these, like zone bosses, are the fun ones because you get to use the combat and materia system.
Side quests vary but are usually also about combat and Protorelic quests are their own beast for each zone.
Linear story segments between open word zones are pretty lengthy and may refresh your disposition for the open word slop.
>>
>>729887425
No problem. I only wish someone had done the same for me.
>>
>>729887543
Nobody said the game is 2 hours long you retard
Theyre saying it only has 2 hours of worthwhile content
>>
>>729887032
damn anon, they're pretty different games. Rebirth has better characters, but the story can get a bit too wild sometimes. XII is more self contained. You probably already know that 12's combat is mmo-like, so if you like that you should get it. Rebirth's combat is hit or miss, you either love it or hate it

If things were reasonable: No, they could've just changed stuff. There was no necessity for an in-universe reason for changes to occur. Especially since many other changes just occurred anyway without a reason.

However things were not reasonable: If they absolutely needed the metatextual nature of the game, then time jannies are necessary, because they cause the artificiality of the game to be at the forefront of the player's mind.

Actually, I thought of it a bit more.
And this might might be totally insane take, but I actually thought that Roche was a good addition. His design didn't feel out of place, and there being a crazy motorbike soldier does fit the lore. I also liked his silly 90s hairstyle.
The museum that they make you walk through in the Shinra HQ was also good, it really did feel like something that huge corporation would have.
So yeah, it's not all bad, but I really didn't like most of the additions.
>>
>>729890036
I force myself to treat him as some sort of Navi character.
Such kind of technology to create a complex android like Chadley who himself is capable of formulating complex materia without a lab or a reactor has worldbuilding implications. And he’s not even one of a kind since Mai appears to share similar properties.
You just have to wave off as some annoying cute character made for japanese tastes or whatever.

I missed S rank because of one note in this one yesterday lmao
But I give this minigame a pass since they only demand A rank for completion purposes and I actually enjoyed trying max rank and giving up just because I wanted to play it, not because there’s a reward or content gated behind.

We get a severe lack of representation of SOLDIER in the remakes. At least you fought some as random enemies in the OG. One would think Shinra would employ them alongside the Turks.
Maybe that will happen during the Wutai war in part 3.

What made Kyrie so bad to me was very subjective. I couldn't help but think of Marie from Persona 4 Golden the moment I saw her... and Marie is also a new character added in new version of the game.
Doesn't help that they both have kinda similar design. Silly hat, sleeveless shirt, striped thighhighs... Yes, I know Kyrie was conceived before FF7 Remake in one of those extra novels, but man, seeing her in game really didn't work for me at all.

>>729890539
Pretty much. He was stupid, but I really didn't get same kind of "manufactured appeal" from him as I did from some of the other new characters.
>>
>>729879021
He ostensibly was and even comments as such later in the game (but you know, India tier localization). Maybe primarily due to Hojo's experiments and the jenova cells in his body, he is literally a SOLDIER in terms of power and strength. Maybe even prior to the experiments he was good enough physically, it's never really confirmed. But what is confirmed is he packed mental disaprine so they shunted him into being a mook lol. And then he took down their entire organization and made Sephiroth look like a dumb science BITCH.
>>
>>729890774
there are a handful of scenes which are basically closeups of the main character models in decent surroundings. these moments were made in house for promo shots. they look great.
sadly 90% of the games are outsourced. shit lighting, shit textures, horrible NPCs, the list goes on.
there are moments that look great, but they are infrequent.
>>
>>729879742
What were they thinking, changing the story would've had ruffled some old fans feathers but time jannies was the worst possible way to adress it, it confuses newcomers and only serves to piss off the fans.
>>
>>729890974
Cloud never made it into SOLDIER. Time Jannies even show up out of nowhere and prevents Hojo from spelling it out loud during Remake, because this LARP has serious plot implications in FFVII.
He was submitted to lab experiments which exposed him to Jenova cells like some Soldiers were and effectively was strong as one in the end.
During the first visit to the Crater events in OG he even asks Hojo what was his number and the answer was he had none since he was counted as a failure, and ironically his (Hojo’s) failure was the one to succeed at the Reunion.

they ruined the game and removed any nuance that made the story great by making shinra and sephi the full big bad. Avalanche blowing up the reactor and killing a whole sector was not a plan of shinra in the OG. It was a fuckup of the well intentioned heros.

>>729879021
He was above one physically, but failed the mental test. He had the biggest mako exposure of any soldier that survived and even got jenova cells from hojo. He failed the mental test though, so he was denied the rank not due to missing strength or skill, but due to being a schizo. Thats pretty much the whole reason why avalanche even got past the security in the reactor in the 1st place. Without cloud they would have died instantly.

guessing this is the FF thread.

I'm about 20 hours into FF16 and I just can't get into it. The storytelling is even more "Game of Thrones" than I could have imagined, some things are just ripped 1:1 from early GoT which I'm fine with. The characters are all quite bland but the storytelling is good.
My big gripe is the gameplay, it just feels so slow and stiff. I groan every time I see an enemy with a stagger bar approach and just walking around from A to B is sooooooo slow and janky. I don't even have a problem with the sidequests. The OST is also very dull and not FF.

I think a big problem is that I played FF7:Rebirth first and that has set my standards for action RPGs impossibly high, that game was so much fun to play from start to finish and had so many QoL features that should be industry standards.
After playing Rebirth, 16 seems like an unpolished antique, it also runs like shit on PC, I had to do a lot to optimise performance and still get the occasional drop out or crash.

All in all, it's a very basic character action game with FF flavor. Also the maps are somewhat huge for absolutely nothing going on outside of side quests, which are bottom of the barrel MMO tier for the most part.

Zack pretends to lose so his chud friend feels good about it. He's that based.

Man, they overused Sephiroth getting rekt before the final part.
They better be cooking something other than just Safer Sephiroth UHD 4K

I find it interesting how Shinra got to develop a whole paramilitary division and basically wrest political power as to become a sovereignty.
Maybe eastern companies like zaibatsus really had a close relationship with the government as to inspire such a concept for a video game.

Rebirth has like twice the budget of FF16. 16 was a sub $60 million game, it's more AA than AAA and they use the MMO side quests and hunts to try to obfuscate that fact. It's legitimately a budget title in comparison to Rebirth and Rebirth is also a fantastic game so 16 is definitely going to seem a lot worse in comparison.

I’m gonna hold my opinion on those fuckers until I have the full story. For the time being, they were annoying on part one, and background noise in part two.

The Lifestream is painted more like a "Medean" figure in remake rather than this abstract all-good lifegiver force. And like they sought the Gaia theory for the OG, they could be going into the Medea Hypothesis for the remake, how life on the Planet, rather than being a self-regulating system (like the Gaia Hypothesis suggests), is inherently self-destructive
They cook be cooking something.

Nope it's all larp
FF7 really is a schizocore game

>It steadily worsened its performance until I restarted and it got fixed again.
Yeah, this is the issue I have now. My machine can definitely handle the game but I have to restart the PC every few hours when it will begin to jitter. It's not too annoying but I wonder if the hordes of less tech literate normies buying the game are even able to play it, if they just accept the performance issues which seem to be universal...

I expect this whole whispers and alternate worlds stuff is mainly because they wanted two fit in compilation stuff, but more importantly I think they want to change the ending, not in a sense that they are going to revive Aerith or Zack, but more in the sense that they are going to put a definitive end to Sephiroth and end the story in a different place where advent children and dirge events never happen. Something like that, idk how to explain it.

They see good art getting threads, think their promptslop deserves to compete and don't think any further

>they were annoying on part one, and background noise in part two.
I was very concerned by them in Remake but they've won me over a little in Rebirth by being more vague.
Rebirth went over the best part of the original game, the next game will go over what is arguably the weakest parts of the original.

If they handle the whispers well, they could easily improve Sephiroth as a villain and provide a more satisfying ending. Then, if they go full KH and fuck it up, they lose the trilogy package as their post-FF14 money printer

I also want to say that I think people overhate Rebirth's ending

FFVII was unique not only because of the cyberpunk setting, but by how little magic had to do with the world and its story.
You had magic and summon materia blowing shit up in battles, but when it came to the actual world, they served as a energy source akin to mako and people still used cars and machine guns. Other games in modern settings (FF8, FF15) and even FF6's steampunk had the magical aspect better integrated to their worlds.
>>729896876
Unless something got lost in translation, Gi Nattak's version of their story implies they're not alien interlopers, but that their world (whatever that actually means) was absorbed by the Lifestream world we know and they were refused "death" because they were not part of this closed ecosystem.
Not only that sounds eerily similar to FFIX's Terra/Gaia thing, this puts both the Cetra and the Lifestream closer to Jenova in how they work.

I agree, I generally liked the Jenova battle because it’s the conclusion to the whole “Bonds” theme the game has and, at least for now, I don’t have a big problem with Aerith’s death scene being different since they wanted a different feel for it and are saving it for the actual emotional punch in part 3, where I expect them to show it as we remember, with Cloud’s dialogue, the burial and all that.
Generally my feelings in that particular scene depends on what they do with it in part 3, but I don’t hate it.

People wanted Square to take a stand and either save or kill her. They did none.
I mean, she's fucking dead and Cloud is over 9000 in schizo levels but in every media we know people are only really dead if they show a corpse and not even then.

ofcourse you have other countries like Wutai but whoever has the power will always be on top.

This entire trilogy depends on them sticking the landing.

especially when it comes to CloudxTifa lifestream part and how he regains his memories like zack/aeriths death.etc.

Trust the plan. They already put Sakaguchi in a panic room under SE's headquarters.

>People wanted Square to take a stand and either save or kill her. They did none.
This notion was fucking retarded and just wishful thinking from the very beginning, but I blame Square for being vague about it and introducing the idea to begin with, people are rightfully angry, specially since I’m pretty fucking sure Aerith is going to remain dead, there was never a stand against it, at least internally. I understand the team behind the remake trilogy wanting the player to be on the same headspace as cloud at the end of Rebirth, but that only introduces problems with the fans of the original; specially with those that want Aerith to live this time around.
>>
>>729899126
Schizos demanding it were why Square Enix played into it, no one was immediately pushing the idea that Aerith was going to survive or not UNTIL fans started demanding things on what could be different between OG and the Remake timeline.

Even the "alternate timelines" are already heavily implied to be hiccups within the Planet's memory.
The question remains about the OG events and how they relate to the Remakes, but Barret is more alive now because of Jannies than Aerith will ever be.
>>
>>729897948
>>729898085
Her death was not ambiguous at all, I have no idea how retards finished the game thinking that Aerith was still alive.
The distinction that Rebirth makes from the original is that it is showing events from Cloud's perspective directly whereas the original was from a third-person perspective where we couldn't see how just how delusional Cloud was.

FF7R was actually good.
Some things were changed which were...ok...not good but just ok.

FFRebirth was dreadful. I'm honestly not sure what the worst part was.
Red coming out with that child like voice, Finding out wedge died for zero reason, Aeirth dying still, Zacks story making fucking all sense, Sections of the game dragging on and on whilst other areas got cut short, Chadley being annoying AF.

Theres just so much wrong with rebirth that this 3rd parts going to be embarrassing
>>
>>729879021
iirc Cloud was a member of the Shinra Security Force but not the SOLDIER unit

>>729899750
Wedge dies either way. I'm surprised they kept Jessie dead instead of trying to farm more of her waifu aura.
