Nintendo post-Iwata has no soul, passion or competency. The Wii and DS lines were remembered for having memorable menus, pack-in titles and interesting apps like Miiverse, Pictochat, Flipnote Studio etc. You had varied and customizable menus on the Wii U and 3DS. Miis were still a major thing. The Switch had regressed in all of these aspects but nobody cared because the games were good. Now the Switch 2 is out and there is no soul and also no good games. We dont even have a clue as to when the next 3D Mario will be announced never mind released, 3D Zelda will probably be another embarrassment like TOTK, Mario Kart was average, Metroid Prime 4 is actual dogshit, where does that leave Nintendo?

You can't really blame them on this, it was the standard set for toys to life. It started gaining traction when Skylanders got huge. The company behind it I guess realized that they could get greedy and did, charging a huge amount for each character. Then Disney got on the trend. Disney shat out three games that were like a mediocre version of Roblox but with Disney branding they used to charge huge per figure. You also had Lego participating, the Lego company is yet another greedy one. The entire concept of toys to life suddenly became an excuse to charge someone the price of 20 games for one. When Nintendo started seriously doing Amiibos they were comparatively cheap. Now they continue to be shit out as a weird mix between a collectible figure and a bonus game component (probably partially kept around because Smash bros needs it to work). Nintendo also probably likes that it allows them to sell stuff in supermarkets that'd only be sold in hobby stores otherwise. Modern Amiibos have admittedly improved a lot in detail. Smash bros figures still look like shit though.

For me, the big thing is how slum lord-y the vibes are that they are giving off. If they brought back the virtual console, and offered a one time purchase option for data recovery, I'd buy a switch 2, sonic generations x shadow, kirby air riders, and all available gamecube games same day, and be comfortable with whatever else moving forward. I'm over subscriptions that barely cover what I want, and having other options I don't care about. It's a bad value. Also, I hate the idea of being checked on every week to make sure I'm being a good paypig so I can still play retro games
