ITT: JRPGs only you played.
>>729883287that game is South Korean, not japanese, so not a JRPG but rather a KRPG
>>729883287An asian game on Xbox is a sacrilegious sight.
That's Korean.
>>729883490fag
>>729883287No, I played it too. Nearly ripped my dick off to this nigga's art. Defined my taste of exaggerated hips and big thighs for the rest of my life.
>>729883501>Peter Jackson's King Kongbased
wasnt the guy who drew this art director for stellar blade or smth like that idont rmember
>>729883389genres are not specific to place of make but a style of gameplay that a place pioneered and popularized. It's why the use of dice and heavy RNG is known as an American-style board game.
>>729883709Would that make Expedition 33 a JRPG or still a FRPG?
>>729883709JRPG is not a genre.
>>729883287Hey anyone know where I could play this on pc?
>>729883682The CEO of Shift Up, which developed Stellar Blade and Nikke was the art director for this game, Blade & Soul, and Stellar Blade.
>>729883816Still a JRPG, the director even explicitly said so
>>729883816It's a JRPG made by the French just like pic is a JRPG made by Americans for Lord of the Rings.
>>729883709good bait
>>729884147Is Wizardry 1 a JRPG?
>>729884147that's the Lord of the rings game that copies the battle mechanics of FFX, no? is it good?
>>729884207That game predates the genre but is one of the inspiring building blocks for Japanese devs to create and standardize what is coined as JRPG. Sort of like how wargaming was a foundational aspect for pen and paper RPGs.
JRPG is just the style but it doesn't have to come out of Japan. If I order tacos in Chicago or Hong Kong, it's still Mexican foodyall quit acting dumb it really isn't that hard
>>729883682>smthneck yourself
>>729884345You're not supposed to use a food analogy.
>>729883287
>>729884339What does Wizardry 1 have to do with Dragon Slayer, Dragon and Princess or Xanadu?
>>729883287/v/ doesn't play video games
>>729884345But it's not a genre, it's a descriptor.
>>729883530YOUR MOM
>>729883287This was at my local gamestop this week for $40 in 2026. What the fuck.
>>729883709>still posting this bait to try and elevate non Japanese games Holy subhuman
>>729884284NTA but no m8 it's ultra mega ass
>>729883287I have the OG of this sitting on my shelf of games to play. Is it any good
>>729884693In video games, the descriptors are the genre since it reflects gameplay.
>>729884759It's a rare 360m. Gained more notoriety after Stellar Blade, same character designer.Hop on Wartech soon lil bro.
>>729884916What the kind of gameplay is reflected by the phrase "Japanese Role-Playing Game" ?
>>729884913No and nips should be killed for appropriating my culture
Outside of Persona, the Swordcraft series is probably the only JRPG I know of where the spinoff is more popular than the main series. I recently went back to them and they’re still as fun as I remember. I’ve tried other SN games that got localized, but they just aren’t fun, they’re generic strategy RPGs. There’s something about the Swordcraft games that makes them more engaging, and it’s not just because of the action gameplay.Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in the world who cares about this series.
>>729885203
>>729884379
>>729885087it means "it's like Final Fantasy" and only 80's/90's Final Fantasy not that Kingdom Hearts style beat em up slop
>>729884790>reads a sentence in his native language>intentionally misinterprets it to chimp out>thinks its "bait"only subhuman here is you, just call him a cunt you dont have to invent what he "really meant"
>>729885435Japanese Action Role-Playing games are older or as old as Turn-Based Roleplaying Japanese ones, same goes with Strategy RPGs too. Dragon Warrior is older than Final Fantasy for fuck's sake, the series that the Trails of series -- FUCKING MEAN REAN'S GAMES -- are a part of and Ys spun out of is OLDER THAN FINAL FANTASY.It Historically and Categorically makes no sense to treat JRPG as a genre.
>>729885691>Ysi now remember bumper cars
>>729885691You're retarded anon. Do you also sperg out about french fries?
>>729885691Legend of heroes is even less of an actual series than final fantasy is
>>729886393Chips*
>>729883287you guys have probably never heard of it but it's called persona 4
Spoiler: they all suck.
>>729885251I played one of these games. It let me pick a robot companion and I really enjoyed the first few hours but then I lost my copy. Wish I knew which game it was
>>729883287>JK*
>>729883287Game wasn't half bad. I really liked the desert music.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1lZD0Mv-gU
>>729883287Many gamers played Magna Carta 2, but what about Magna Carta 1? It was just like one of those 500 yen Japanese games.
>>729884873>>729884147I remember playing it and liking the combat
>>729885640this
>>729885784i kinda miss the bumper car games, but i know they'll never go back to it
>>729883709No.>>729883816FaggotRPG. Not a JRPG. Not even good.>>729884020Wrong.>>729884147Wrong. Die.>>729884207There is a JRPG version of wizardry 1 but the original is just a classic RPG. It was not made by japs.>>729884339It doesn't predate genre. It was always an RPG this one is just digital. People always forget that tabletop RPGs invented all of this a decade prior.>>729884345You're wrong.>>729889262Finally some good fucking games. Metal Max kino.
>>729889781The tank-building tickles my autism in exactly the right way. It's also why I really loved the Sand Land game from last year, it's basically realtime Metal Max with a AAA budget and Toriyama art design.
>>729889781>no argumentI won
>>729889906I'll add it to the list. I didn't have any interest cause Toriyama's art sadly doesn't do much for me. I like tanks though so maybe I'll pick it up on a sale.
>>729889781How does a JRPG play?
>>729890084How it plays is arbitrary. There's only a few consistent mechanics. Some kind of stat system is required. Being made by Japanese people is required. You could get into arguments about "style" or whatever but none of that really matters. What matters is the people who make the thing and the one consistent element of all of these games being that. It's like how people that are really dumb say that anime is a "style" when it is specifically used to refer to Japanese animation and anyone who actually likes anime despises the korean/chinese/other-asian-here stuff that is coming out capitalizing on the explosion of anime. It's the Japanese approach to making things that I am personally attracted to and I don't care about how other people choose to define what is or isn't a JRPG.Calling it a "style" is something that only a person that doesn't love JRPGs would do.Much like hardcore porn, I know a JRPG when I see it. "how does it play" fuck off you reductive mindless cunt.
>>729884638>/v/ doesn't play video games>posts visual novel?
>>729890568What if its made by japanese people that just relocated to seattle
>>729890568Everything you just said disqualifies JRPG from being a genre of game.
>>729890738It would largely depend on whether or not they were impacted by the culture of Seattle and to what degree but I'd argue if the people are Japanese and have a lot of the same sensibilities of Japanese people (who are from and live in Japan) and they're not allowing the culture to change them significantly then they'd be JRPGs.If they're specifically trying to appeal to westerners and using a lot of westerners in the creation of narrative and game design, that's where the biggest issues I have come from. The programmers can be from anywhere as long as the actual design is done by Japanese people.Ideally the "localizers" will be true to the original script but oftentimes they're not. It's bad when they're inaccurate but I can live with it if the changes aren't too zany or focused entirely on weird humor or references or the like. I know a lot is lost in translation so I'm pretty lenient as far as script goes, as long as the gameplay is in-tact and a solid percentage of the story is close enough I'm okay. But in the coming years from the explosion of multiculturalism and the potential destruction of Japan as a nation I feel like my favorite kinds of games are at risk.Hopefully I'll be long dead before I see the eradication of what I personally enjoy but I will probably outlive it.>>729891187Genre is stupid anyways. I have defined what it is to me and that's all that matters.
>>729891445You just defined that it's a descriptor of where the game is from not what kind of game it is, otherwise by your very loose criterea WWE 12 is a JRPG.
>>729884454I played that. Mechanics were wasted on a niche game for little girls.
>>729884207no, but wizardry has had an extremely heavy influence in nip game development and fantasythey took it like flies to shit
>>729891606I've never played it but yeah probably. It does specifically appeal to westerners though and it doesn't seem have very many of the mechanics I personally like but sure.I don't see any issue with calling this a JRPG outside of the simple fact that other descriptors would work better. It's a J-wrestling game for sure though.
what's a JRPG?
>>729891741Therefore according to the food analogies itt every Jap RPG that imitates Wizardry is American. DQ and FF are American, every game inspired by them is American therefore we should be calling them ARPGs. >>729891792>J-wrestling gameThus defeating your point
>JRPG has to come from JapanIt was largely popularized and standardized by Japan during the video game boom of last decades. That's the entire point. It was EMBLEMATIC of RPGs that were coming out of Japan at the time which coined the term. Japan doesn't even use the term JRPG until the last decade and a half or so, but they distinguished WRPGs mostly from the US (洋).
>>729888585I have Magna Carta on PSP
>>729891895Japan specifically calls them Western RPGs to differentiate them making their own style from RPGs. For most of the video game industry it was just US and Japan conducting cultural exchange for decades. Japan learned what RPGs were from the US.
>>729891895Yuke's was known for Wrestling games. I never said it's not a JRPG just that "wrestling" as a term fits better. My point is solid. Also the other WWE games are RPGs too. I never said anything that contradicts itself.
>>729891904ah yes, when I go to my corner Chinese shop, I always order the Jrice.Fuck off my nigga. Japan couldn't develop itself without America, let alone RPGs.
>>729891895They technically wouldn't be American just like every miniature wargame hobby in existence wouldn't be British.
>>729885251I played the first one on a whim based on that "uh I kiss other girls all the time!" image. I went in expecting a top down action game but it was a 2D action game like old Tales games (I only played Abyss). Very good game and I of course was a Drill weapon chad. FeMC and Sugar are pretty cute too but apparently Sugar is a hand-me-down from your dad or some shit which was kind of weird.
>>729883287I've played 1.
lost odyssey stuck on the xbox 360 forever
>>729892115That's my point. And they made something distinct and with good enough frequency to earn a toponymic title as a genre.
>>729891904>>729892017Japan does not use the term "Western RPG" They use the term "Foreign Game," they still categorise games appropriately, like for instance Wasteland 2 is described as a SRPG, the same genre of game as Fire Emblem. Nobody uses WRPG as a term except the same people who think JRPG is a genre. >>729892027>just that "wrestling" as a term fits betterWhich again defeats your point.
>>729892209It's the real E33.
