>>
>>729894965
Most games are accessible though, but rare few are getting this amount of praise
>>
I’m more convinced that the hate campaign is from weebs that are seething that a western studio beat Japanese devs at their own game.

If the game had anime aesthetics, there would be no seething.
>>
>>729895137
what are other details. I want to know what actual problems you had with the story
did you hate Gustave death, that main quest kills everyone or that nothing mattered!!!
>>
>>729895278
It's true. If someone's crtitique is something like "baby's first JRPG" be sure it's a weeb seething
>>
>>729895242
Most games are not accessible. Anime aesthetic alone is enough to turn off massive amounts of players that would otherwise enjoy a title. A lot of JRPGs lack the quality of life enjoyed by random ass RPGMaker hentai games. A lot of titles have nothing in them that keep short attention spans that think 5 second enemy turns are too long.
E33, regardless of its own quality is just the easiest JRPG to buy into in years.
>>
>>729894671
what did you (and others) like about it? I beat it recently and found it dull. admittedly, I haven't played many narrative games over the years to compare it to.
it felt like the game posed a few ideas but didn't explore much, and act 3 just ignores most of act 1 and 2 especially the characters.
also the gameplay is ass
>>
>>729894965
JRPGs is already in itself an accessible take on Western CRPGs.
>>
>>729895739
Then you meant "presentable", not "accessible". I thought you meant it's easy to play and get into
>>
>>729895278
I enjoyed it a lot because of how anime all the animations were, you could tell the frenchies really loved JRPGs.
Seeing the credits having a bunch of koreans for animators suddenly made a lot of sense.
The "weebs vs westerners" war is completely artificial.
>>
>>729895739
Tbf, JRPGs have been in a bad state for a very long time. We’ve long passed their late 90s-early 2000s golden age, and E33 was basically just one of the first JRPGs in a long time to make something on that level of quality. The only reason JRPGs were able to slog along and survive until now was because of weebs and waifufags, but it’s lost the mainstream appeal they once had.

>>
>>729895349
as I said before the scale switching was pretty bad and it does make it feel like suddenly everything matters a lot less. Gustave's death wasn't great either, that was a character that had potential for a lot of development, instead they just instantly replace it with someone who you get no background on for most of the time, but at the very end are asked to care about. the endings are pretty shit too you either erase everyone who are supposed to be totally like normal people or you live in what's supposed to be a totally valid world expect none of the people that are supposed to be just like normal people seem to care about living on a painting with no prospects to anything while also not caring about their friend slowly dying irl or the memories of a dead nigga being forced to exist despite just wanting to disappear

melodramatic narrative and fanservice aka pillars of successful modern rpg
>>
>>729896045
I really think the emotional sincerity of the game did it wonders. After more than a decade of irony-drenched quip fests, an earnest melodrama feels refreshing.
>>
>>729896058
Weebs whole identity hinges on convincing themselves that they consume superior media. E33 threatens that identity so they must fight back or admit that their weeb content is sub par
>>
Omori was better but we're not ready to have that discussion about an actual indie game that's not Japanese since it'd destroy the E33 narrative.
>>
>>729896283
Which is something I’ve always found weird because a lot of anime, manga and Japanese games draw influence from western media. Osamu Tezuka for example was heavily influenced by Disney, and that’s just one example. On the game side, you also have Kojima who is honestly one of the biggest westaboos alive.

>it does make it feel like suddenly everything matters a lot less
but world didn't get smaller, it just you learned of things beyond it
>Gustave's death wasn't great either,
I hated it at first and coped that he will somehow revive later in game but after looking back it was genius move, game's main theme is grief so it forces player also experience it by killing MC and giving you Verso
>who you get no background on for most of the time, but at the very end are asked to care about
I found Verso to be most compelling character with enough background if you go through relationships and get journals.
>he endings are pretty shit too
that's French game, of course they won't give you GOOD ending, you either sacrifice that world with all people you interacted in it to save a 16 yo drug addict or you let drug addict to just dull her pain until it kills her but it buys painting another 10-50 years
expect none of the people that are supposed to be just like normal people seem to care about living on a painting with no prospects to anything
Because Alicia is shit painter so people have no color, so she turns vibrant world that lived by it's own world into her dollhouse that exists to make her happy
>>
>>729890329
>What makes this game so resonate with players?
All I remember from the game is that, you have to parry everything, or jump if that yellow thing appears.
Gustave died and his place was taken by a white knight Verso.
Then some drama happens, and in act 3 you learn that the whole world is just a drawn shit to keep Verso alive and you have two bad endings.

I maybe too autistic, but the only thing that made me feel bad is the fact that Gustave was just some random guy trying his best and gets fucked because of family problems.

Frankly, that’s just what good writing does. If there’s not at least one thread of intrigue established early on, then your audience isn’t going to have the patience to sit through the beginning of your story.

A lot of JRPGs fail this test because they fall into the “it gets good 20 hours in” trap.

No trope is original and it comes from somewhere. The point is that E33 achieved the bare minimum of what a good story should do in its opening hours and it paid off in spades in terms of player engagement. It’s amazing how many modern writers simply don’t know how to write.
