Friendly reminder steam glazers
Why did Gabe lie to us?
>>729892049It's not steam staff who decides to delete your games btw.
>>729892049ok? and?
>>729892049I bet that guy has a full head of hair under that hat and he's only wearing it indoors because he's chilly
If you actually read the EULA video game publishers include this applies to every single video game. Even if you have physical installation media (a cd-rom, dvd) you don't and never have "owned" that game. You just bought a license to play it
>>729892049I thought he was that famous wrestler
i don't carethe worst thing that can happen to steam is it being brought down to console corpo leveli control all the files on my pc and can easily pirate games or crack my steam games if anything ever goes wrongconsoles are moving to digital and when they're fully digital you will control absolutely fucking nothing
>>729892049My question is, at what point did this become true, and do games purchased on Steam before that date count as purchased instead of purchasing a license, because if not isn't that theft, trading our purchased games for licenses without our consent?
>>729892049what digital store can I buy from that sells me the game instead of a license?
>>729892049You don't own anything you buy digitally unless you can download it and use offline at your leisure.I hate digital fags so much. They think they get to cry for the system to be fixed AFTER their money is already spent.
>>729892942GOG
>>729892270they can revoke the loicense, retard nigger.you can't resell """"your""" games
>>729892942if that existed any game developer that put their game there and the store would instantly go bankruptthere's zero reason to pay when you can legally infinitely copy a completely legal and fully functional game
>>729892437It applies to all software and has for like 50 years. Steam just added a notice because of some fag law passing in gayland (europe). Not going to stop engagement farming from sloptubers though.
>>729892049They can say whatever they want. That doesn't mean they get to override actual law.
>>729892804>at what point did this become trueIt never did. Corporations wanting something to be legally binding doesn't mean it is.
>>729892049>looks at competition who are even worse and have even worse consumer practicesyup, seems like it's still the best choice
>>729892049Fuck steam
>>729892942besides GOG and it's increasingly smaller amount of "no DRM" games? no, there isn't, and GOG is fucking dying
>>729892049Dont care. There will be a class action lawsuit against Steam if they ever start taking games away en masse so we'd all get paid. And even in the incredibly unlikely scenario that I personally get banned one day I have the only people I care about talking to added on discord so my friends list doesnt matter, and I screenshot my entire steam library every so often so I can pirate my games back.
>>729892049Friendly reminder that my steam service and account will live longer than you.
>>729892049damn that's crazy
>>729892049I trust steam more than my own wife
I don't get it all software is a license. Its not a physical product and can be duplicated infinitely of course you would never "own" it in a legal sense.
>>729892049It's a good thing I haven't bought a game on steam using team money after making $38,000 from legacy tf2 skins. Thanks for the free Steam Deck gabe. I'll be claiming a free Steam Machine and the VR headset as well.
>>729892437Yeah, law is funky like that. If you just let someone have full, absolute ownership of a game that they bought, then that would also give them license to make infinite copies of that game and distribute it online with impunity without an ounce of subtlety, and no one would be able to stop it because there's nothing legally disallowing them from doing so. So when it comes to easily mass-reproducible, there has to be a disclaimer stating that, no, you do not have the legal right to do this. And if you don't have the legal right to do whatever the fuck you want with something, including mass-produce it, then you cannot legally be said to own it.It's all annoying bullshit, but the reality is that if you don't do this, some asshole is going to milk it for all it's worth without the slightest hesitation. Books are basically the same. You own the book, sure, but you don't own the words IN that book. And if you don't have the legal right to copy, mass-produce and redistribute that book ad nauseum, can you REALLY be said to own it?
>>729894310yeah, like the trademark laws and copyright, if humans weren't such cocksuckers looking to completely bend the systemwe wouldn't have these gay shenanigans if people weren't so fucking greedy but the same could be said for a lot of things
>>729892049I pirated alot and anything I bought I can just go pirate. Your problems dont concern me
>>729892303The years have not been kind to Tim Pool.
>>729893023GOG still sells a license. the difference is it's DRM-free
>>729893041resell? but, i got it for free
>>729892049Technically you don't own your console either. You are leasing it from Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo and they can brick it if you violate their TOS
>>729892049And other digital stores are different how?
>>729894000Anything can happen after Gabe kicks the bucket.
>>729892049>We live in a world where the only one who "own" something are piratesIf you had told me that back when that shitty "anti-piracy dvd add" was still a thing I would have laughed at your face.
>>729892049This has literally always been the case and you can find it in steams TOS from day one since it is a requirement for distribution since a publisher or game owner can always choose to remove their library as long as it doesn't break contract.
>>729892804>My question is, at what point did this become true, and do games purchased on Steam before that date count as purchased instead of purchasing a license, because if not isn't that theft, trading our purchased games for licenses without our consent?I’m pretty sure they have always been licenses.
>>729892049I use Steam out of convenience, I have absolutely no compunctions about pirating that selfsame software that I buy on Steam, be it out of necessity or by choice.
>ps5 games are only licenses...>xbox games are only licenses...>nintendo games are only licenses...>steam games are only licensesFUCKING STEAM REEEEEEEEE
>>729892049>Steam does the same shit as everybody else (sells you license that they claim you don't actually own)>Steam is the only one with the decency to warn you of this in full honestly>others don't>STEAM IS LE ANTI CONSUMER!!!!!I have no words for what a little troglodyte retarded subhuman you are.
>>729892049Every digital service is like that.Your point?
>>729892049I only play games once so I dont really give a shit.
>>729892252This, google and apple use their own payment processing, this is why gacha games get away with so much.
>>729892165He didn't. Being a retard doesn't mean you were lied to.What did you think Steam was selling for all this time? Micro physical copies of games put somewhere inside your computer? Lol.
>>729893041>they can revoke the loicense, retard nigger.Never happened to me, retard nigger.>you can't resell """"your""" gamesWhy do physical retards complain about not owning le games and losing them then act like it's okay to permanently lose your game as long as someone gives you 2 dollars for it?
>>729892804In September 2003, retard.
>>729892804>My question is, at what point did this become truelong before steam ever existed. The difference is DRM and the ability to transfer the license
>>729899226look at this niggercattle defending their masters
>>729892049How do people not understand you've always only owned a license and that's fine? The problem with games is it's never clearly defined(overbearing eula's, saying when they feel like it don't count). In the rest of the software world I have bought many permanent/lifetime licenses, and on occasion, licences that are only valid for a short but defined period.
>>729892049No shit retard, you don't legally own digital games from any source because that implies you could resell them. Steam doesn't even own them. You don't own from GOG or whatever shithole you would shill either.
>>729892049You do know that 90% of steam games have no DRM? You can move them wherever and refund them if you really care
>>729894310It's honestly bizarre how many Anons have no idea what ownership entails and why licenses are a thing
>>729892049It's worth it for the fact that there is zero possibility of my possession being revoked. Even if I refund the game. Even if I sell/give it away. Even if Valve arbitrarily decides to take my licence away. I will always possess the game. It's strange how these threads always single out Steam when it's the same with every digital distributor, even on console
>>729900792Oh, they allways knew it. The thing is, if you really owned the game, you could decompile it, or lets say, get the music inside the game, and re-sell it, since it came with the game.
>enable offline mode>copy entire game directory to separate folder on own device>legally own a backup copy of game>Gabe falls into helicopter blades or something>Steam is shut down forever as part of his will>Game still on computermuh license
>>729892437/threadAlso steam is still the best launcher. Workshop, forums, reviews, free weekends, steam marketplace. What's not to like? It also runs better than the epic launcher wtf are they doing
