One of the best times I had was back on my first server, Undermine, an rp server. I've always mained a forsaken warlock, and back then I had my own guild, a cabal of cloth casters. We had a decent reputation back then, and one day, the server's pvp guild approached me and my inner circle in the magic quarter of the Under city, requesting our aid in raiding Alliance cities. We had a grand roleplay event where we both forged an alliance of our own, pooling resources and swearing oaths before we went and absolutely annihilated those fuckers. Two of the oaths were to swear a priest to every party and a tank/peeler to every "talon" of the cabal. Spent the better part of a day roleplaying and then the entire next day wrecking face.
Great times, I miss those guys.

I'll argue it's even more compact and easy to navigate than TB, given how everything has its place in one of the quarters that makes perfect sense as to why it'd be there. Don't need directions from guards and you have the shortest paths to any given location compared to every other city.
As for running up and down the stairs, I forget if it was TBC or WotLK that they put mailboxes right next to the auctioneers, but it was definitely after vanilla. Made an already great city perfect for autistic efficiency.

I played on Chromiecraft and quit recently due to the people there being the worst kind of mix between stupidity and far left woke. Everyone there would get mad if you tried fishing next to them. It's considered rude because then it's apparently difficult to click on the correct lure.
I can't bring myself to hate them, but I do strongly dislike them.
The worst thing is how they'll lie and put on this facade of "cozy" and being a "super friendly and welcoming community" to lure in newcomers. After you've been there for more than a week, it all falls apart.
Anyway, tangent aside, I fondly remember chatting with others while fishing back on retail servers in the day. Those were always great, sometimes I'd even find a higher level player who'd give me stuff or run me through a dungeon, getting me my quests done and passing on all the loot.
I've always liked to pay it forward and actually be cool to people like that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't play WoW in the modern day, not on retail or private servers. Maybe only with friends you already know, but that's the only exception.

That said if they ever make a vanilla+ that is actually just vanilla with alternate/additional THOUGHT OUT content I would love it. Emphasis on thought out. Vanilla balance is fairly fragile, you can't just go "hey lets give ele shamans a full ele-variant of T1 that gives them some OP set bonus" and expect them to not blow mages out the water as a result. It needs to be very held back and actually thought out to make sure you don't totally shit on the entire games balance by adding something just because it sounds good.

A relatively low risk, high reward addition to any vanilla+ concept is new races. Ogres for horde, high elves for alliance, there. Keep the raicals on par with other stuff and now it's just more variety and fun with no drawback. And don't fucking give alliance shamans and horde paladins, that shit is cool and I dont knwo why EVERY vanilla+ concept wants to remove it.

I hit the gold cap in WotLK on like 6 characters using a bot to autocraft glyphs that were worth more than a set amount according to an auction house scan. The bot would also cancel any auctions that had been undercut, and undercut the undercutter by 1 copper. All I had to do was craft the glyphs, which was easy, because I had three Chinese gold farmers sending me herbs via cash on delivery.
I hit high warlord in vanilla. I think I had like 100 days of playtime before burning crusade came out. I spent countless hours in duo arenas in BC. I was involved in the first Molten Core clear on my server, and one of the first BWL clears. AND YET, despite all of that, all of the hours, experiences, and memories I have in WoW I don't remember a single fucking thing about Thunderbluff aside from the fact that one of my gold carrying alts was stationed there.

There has perhaps not been a more irrelevant and forgettable place in any online game than Thunderbluff. I don't even have memories of Mulgore aside from some silver elite tiger that had super fast attack speed before hunter pet normalization and hunters trying to compete over taming it so they could fuck casters over. I was absolutely obsessed with WoW from 2004-2008, to a level that borders derangement, and yet if you put me in Thunderbluff I'd be lost immediately.

This is from a short story about Nathanos when he got transformed into having a new, less rotted body (pic-related was Nathanos originally):

So Undercity is probably fine for Undead but would smell fucking horrible for a regular human. Also in real life people who don't bath have a tendency not to notice their own stench because they just get used to it. Like they flat out don't perceive how bad they smell even if they smell horrid to other people.

To be fair it's more of an actual war between the Scarlet Crusade and the Forsaken rather than the undead just going and killing some farmers for fun. The farms you attack in quests are just a part of the Forsakens actual campaign on securing Tirisfal glades and the surroundings for themselves. Attacking and destroying food supply sources is just a regular war tactic. They do it again in quests against Southshore in the Hillsbrad Foothills.

Now them taking food and using it as a vector for testing and spreading plagues against the living? Yeah that's 100% them just being written as evil dickheads who have lost their Humanity after becoming Undead. The writers just seemed to really like the idea of the Forsaken being the Scourge except they serve Sylvanas instead of the Lich King

And that's all you need, it's the only city in the game where you can craft everything right next to the auctioneer and the bank since it has its forge and anvil right next to them while shit like Ironforge, UC and others requires you to walk for a minute to reach the closest anvil, the worst being probably Orgrimmar.

I remember it being very uninteresting place in middle of nowhere.
Same for Night Elf, Draenei, Dwarf, Blood Elf capitals.
For Horde, everyone were in Orgrimmar or Booty Bay and for Alliance it was that human capital.
But after Crusader everyone went to Northrend to that flying city.
Game probably isn't the same anymore after all those expansions, it's been like 15 years since I played this.
