>Mario was introduced as a carpenter and has maintained his working man characterization and background in the four decades since

I think it's interesting in a medium dominated by soldiers and gunmen and sword-wielding warriors, the most iconic video game hero of them all is a simple blue collar plumber in his work clothes and personalized hat, and the other most iconic video game character is a yellow rat that shoots lightning.
>>
Mario hasn't been a plumber since 2017.

The indian takeover of 4channel is crazy, they don't even bother hiding it anymore. What the fuck led to things getting like this?

You're the kind of dumbass that read that Game Informer article where Miyamoto says he thinks of the Mario cast like actors and thought he meant it literally.
>>
>>729911978
There were articles made in that year where Nintendo said pretty clearly he is not a plumber anymore. Not Miyamoto, though you are correct about the actor thing.

>mario hasn't been a plumber since his last major game
What point is this trying to make? Also he was a plumber in the movie.
>>
>>729911978
Mario and Peach are just friends. Get over it.

>is literally a plumber in a movie that came out three years ago
>not a plumber
>>
>>729911437
No they made him a plumber again since then.
They took off his plumber status for a while and then brought it back.
>>729911195
He was supposed to look like Popeye originally because Nintendo didn't want to spend the money to buy the rights to Popeye so Miyamoto settled and decided to just steal King Kong and make it a "parody" to get around copyright infringement laws by calling it Donkey Kong. And Mario was supposed to look kind of like Popeye still, but then they changed him to be Italian after they decided to call him Mario.
Lol.

has mario ever performed any plumbing feats in any game?

mario and luigi superstar saga, or was it partners in time?

superstar saga yes.
though partners in time might have had a similar section.

The real answer is being a former British colony and the most populated country in the world, millions of Indians are somewhat able to read, speak and write English.
Unlike China which went through heavily industrialization since the 70s and now basically does almost all the manufacturing in the world, India basically just tried to brute force its entire population skipping to a service economy.
So now you have companies paying Indians a few dollars a day which translates to hundreds of rupees to post shit online, leading to shit like the AI Facebook farms where because Facebook pays off engagement you have computer farms in India AI generating random Christian/Trump/whatever nonsense for boomers to click and share on Facebook, or doing passive social media influence, or call center work or whatever.

So yeah I wouldn't be surprised if so much of the defense of AI slop is basically a warehouse in Mumbai trying to defend an easy paycheck.

>blue collar plumber
Mario is just a mascot character, his primary occupation is crushing turts. His "blue collar" background was always just set dressing, it never mattered in the slightest.
>>
>>729913383
It probably mattered to get the franchise off the ground in the 1980s when they were trying to make money off middle class Americans
>>
>>729913549
I should say *succeeding* at making money off middle class Americans

Gotta sanitize for the globalized middle class now doe
>>

Probably not considering the most iconic video game "characters" before Mario were a fucking triangle shooting at rocks, ping pong paddles, the space invaders and a yellow circle eating dots. Any kind of defined character would've been a hit, the fact that Miyamoto had such good game design sense in spite of that school of thought being basically nonexistent in such a young industry was just a match made in heaven.
Plus he wanted to emphasize Donkey Kong was just being mischievous rather than malicious, hence the hero being a construction worker at his job trying to save his girlfriend rather than animal control or a soldier.

That and they lost the Popeye rights during development, so a two-fisted working man was always going to be in play.

LOL
How stupid

>>729914070
>>729914136
To clarify the characterization had to be extremely Americanized. You couldn't have had Mario be a samurai or something or it would be as small as Goemon or some other franchise.

This de-americanized sanitization if a strictly 21st century thing
>>
>>729914313
To be fair I feel like it's almost kind of an accident since even the Mario audition clarified Mario was an Italian-American plumber from Brooklyn and Charles Martinet just did the wacky Italian voice because he thought kids would find it more fun. And then they just chose it for some reason.
I think the Mario franchise would be really kinda different if Mario in Super Mario 64 and onwards was still a gruff American hero in spite of traversing a world of whimsy and wonder. Also Ithink that's why Miyamoto chose generic leading man Chris Pratt doing generic hero voice as kind of a recalibration for Mario in the public eye.
>>
>>729912396
last I checked he remodeled your moms shithole, but did it free of charge. What a nice guy!
>>
>>729914798
idk i can blame Martinet for the sloppification of Mario though
