I remember coming downstairs and seeing the Genesis box next to the tree. As good and bad as Sonic has been throughout the years, something about playing a new Sonic game still gives me a child-like twinge of excitement I can't explain and don't get from anything else. It's not even nostalgia, it's like a straight up "I got a new thing I can't wait to play it," which doesn't even make sense considering I'm almost 40 and have the means and money to buy things whenever I want instead of being beholden to a birthday/Christmas schedule.
