Has there even been a game where the inclusion of a parry system didn't work in its favor?

>>729917662That game had problems that went well above it having a parry system.
>>729917359Next time call it what it is: parryslop. Maybe then you’ll get more replies. Also>implying pareyslop is any better than rollslop, let alone good at all
>>729917842Parryslop usually implies Dark Souls shit w/ the rollslop on top.

>>729917842skong really was such a great game, and at least to me showed how you can have such a great combat system without relying on those crutches, yes there's still dodges and parries, but they come at a high resource cost so you can't actually spam them, and you have to be actively engaged in the fight to make use of it effectivelymoreover you don't need to use them at all, they're honestly pretty niche all things considered, contact damage makes it so positioning and managing spacing matter a lot in each fight and hornet moves and controls like such a dream that it's a joy to hop around, kiting back and forth, weaving in and out of danger, which also fits well with her nimble hunter themingsad that it ended up filtering so many people but it is what it is I guess
>>729917842Not all parries are created equal. Metal Gear Rising does it right, all parries in 3D games should be directional parries
>>729917359I enjoy some parryslop. The parry in Darksiders is just fuckawful and barely works. Nobody believes me but the parry in 1 doesn't cancel attack strings so you get knocked out of it like clockwork and the one in 2 is so busted in scripting that it doesn't activate unless not moving and doesn't even target the enemy who attacked you, just the one you're looking at, so it tends to miss the dude you're fighting and attack some asshole across the map. Ender Lillies' parry is about as fucked, usually just gets you hit, they fixed it for Magnolia. This is a deep cut, but if you parried projectiles in Legend of Korra, the Platinum game, you'd be transported across the map behind them, that was funny. Nobody has played that game. Anyway parryslop good, I enjoy watching enemy attacks and then responding to those attacks in a variety of ways.
>>729917359Surge 2 overdid it. Too many bosses are just pure parry. The one boss that only has it as a decent option rather than the entire gameplay is probably the best one in the game. I'm talking about the two phase fight where the first one is a big mech and the second one is the pilot getting out and beating your ass while the wrecked mech shoots shit at you.
Samus ReturnsIs not broken or anything but is not really that fun, but I guess that works on its favor, is pretty great to not depend on It that much at middle and endgame.
>>729919380The directional parry system in 1 seemed like such a chore that I didn't bother using it outside of the mechs who were obviously designed for it, did they change it in 2?
>>729919556the surge 1 hop and duck thing and the "perfect guard" style parry were never really tested by any boss, they were hardly tutorialized at all and it was basically up to the player to decide if they wanted to bother with it. I think the only part of the game hop and duck really makes easier is the humanoid crystal guys in the last dungeonin surge 2 they give you this optional implant that telegraphs the direction the next attack is coming from and you get a stereotypical giant souls parry into doing a bunch of guaranteed damage on big enemies and bosses. It's not too bad a system without the implant that telegraphs where attacks are going to come from, and the actual timing on the parry is on the harder side, but there are multiple bosses where you can just stand in their face guarding waiting for them to do their parryable attacks and kill them from full to dead doing nothing else
>>729920857Oh, so it's kind like the Nioh 2 red attack parry except they do the attacks more than once and trivialize things? I can see why that'd be a little frustrating, like fighting the temptation to parry cheese Gwyn every playthrough.
>>729917359E33. Not because its hard, but because its boring as fuck, especially when the enemy repeats the exact same pattern of 11 attacks per turn.
>>729917359>pic relatedi don't like any of those games because they have parries. nine sols feels so fucking janky and then on top of that its a metroidvania with 0 exploration. prince of persia is just boring. and metal gear rising is braindead
>>729917359Team Ninja's obsession with red parry attacks have ruined all of their games since Nioh 2.
>>729917359>when parry is a null stat because it resets the enemy swing timer to 0s
