after 30 years why don't we still have games that get 90's cgi just right?
>>
Because Unreal Engine doesn't have a preset for this.
>>
>>729919964
because nintendo didn't hire that man

Mr. Moon?

Wow I'm grateful that somebody made an entire thread in honor of my post from earlier today, good job king. But to answer my own question, I think it's because tech stopped actually improving. If you compare N64 games with GameCube games, the leap in graphics was insane, we stopped having big leaps, because we stopped making improvements.
It might look like modern games are better, but I feel like AAA devs couldn't make a game like the 90s CGI if they tried to because they don't have it in them.
Lol.

because shit is really hard to do in real time. back in 2010 when they re-rendered toy story for a 3d gimmick it still took hours to render one frame.

mario if he dural

because that looks like fucking ass. not even kidding, what the FUCK is going on with those textures?
>>
>>729920790
wait nm i remembered that wrong, it was actually 1/24th of a second but using a render farm
>>
>>729921047
Well it might look ass to you, but those kinds of images have a lot of shit going on that modern games still can't handle. The problem is that it takes a long time to actually render that image and a modern game could never look like the image even today, because it would lag too much lol.

sometimes asses are glorious, sometimes asses are nasty. this is the former.

um wtf?

That's kind of true. We're in the far future compared to the 1990s and we haven't even reached the point where games have FF7 FMV graphics. Not to talk of FF8 or FF10 FMVs. Back then that level of graphics seemed inevitable like it was just a matter of time. But look at what we ended up with. mocap and facescans.

>>729921615
Those things are significantly more complex
The industry doesn't do 90's style cgi graphics because they don't sell and nobody wants to make anything with that artystyle

It's a little thing called soul. Look it up some time.

This shit looks terrible
I think the reason games don't look like this is because nobody but (You) want that, OP

graphically we're already far past this point though, unless you're referring to deliberately mimicking a low res aesthetic like is common with 'ps1/2 style' horror games that still get released, in which case the answer is because making a game with this '90's cgi' style is a worse option than making it an a different, likely more commercially/critically successful style.

I'm sure you already knew all this, so just dump the rest of your image gallery i guess.
