Jedi Academy had the best melee combat of any game before or since. Spins, pokes, wiggles, etc added so much depth, a new player going up against a veteran had absolutely no chance of winning, not even by luck. Just like a real lightsaber fight.

Picking Kel Dor or Rodian never felt right to me because male Jaden's voice sounded too "human" for them. A separate alien gibberish voice would've been too much to ask, but adding a slight distortion effect to the VA's performance could have worked

Still, I think the game deserves credit for addressing the major flaw that existed in the series since Dark Forces, namely the level design. No more labyrinths, no more running around looking for hidden switches long after all the enemies are dead. Jedi Academy recognised that the combat is the gameplay people want and it focused on that while simplifying the maps. And what a relief that was. I just want to play with my Jedi action figure, I don't want to deal with Hexen 2 bullshit.
