anyone else remember this shit? it sucked
>>
Vaguely, how is it thread worthy though? OG xbox was cool though. Another game i bought and was disappointed with was Blood Wake. It would have been cool if it had online play i bet
>>
>>730035802
It was alright. Felt like third person Halo (same guns and controls) but not as fun.
>>
>>730035802
I just remember playing the cool ass gator guy.
>>
>>730036424
i dunno, i just randomly remembered it and how hyped up it was back in the day and felt like seeing who else remembered it. my memory may be a little off but iirc it was being hyped as a new halo, in terms of how big it'd be
>>
>>730037084
No ur right it was a let down but still kinda neat in a way
>>
>>730035802
Decent coop game.
>>
>>730035802
I remember playing this coop on a tiny 12 inch tv.
>>
>>730037084
IIRC it was one of the first ones marketed as a halo-killer, along with stuff like killzone and gears of war
>>
>>730035802
wasnt this game featured on house M.D?
>>
Parents rented this for me from a Blockbuster ages ago. I only remember being put off because the characters were killed in their own intros.
>>
It wasn't a bad game, but it didn't find a place. If you wanted Halo you played Halo. If you wanted squad tactics with co-op you played Desert Storm. Brute Force was this strange also-ran that wasn't particularly good at anything. I bought it, but I could never get my friends to play it with me.

It's kinda funny that Brute Force is remembered as a failed halo killer when Microsofts intention for it's advertising was more like "lightning can strike twice! please fucking buy this!"
>>
>>730040476
Well one problem was
>split-screen co-op
>in third person

You're already struggling for screen space on your TV. The third-person camera adds another degree of miniaturisation.
>>
>>730035802

The graphics were eye popping though
>>
>>730040476
man i miss the og xbox days

>Microsoft makes your gimp your cool sci-fi tactics game to work on xbox
>Microsoft aggressively markets your game as a halo killer

>Microsoft punishes you by turning you into Halo studios
>Kill Halo
Fate is truly a funny thing

Maybe they brought this fate on themselves.
>Our N64-render lizardman will be just as cool as the Master Chief!
>>
>>730035802
I remember seeing an ad for this in the theater before a movie
there really was a big attempt to hype it up
>>
Looking back the OG Xbox was absolutely clogged with shooters.

It was a shooters and sega games console. My favorite Xbox. It had some really good racing games too.
>>

Microsoft released a 200-page prequel book for Brute Force that was advertised on the inside cover the Halo novels
I just have to wonder how much of an intersection there is between "people super excited to play Brute Force" and "people who regularly read 200 page novels".
>>
>>730043054
Well I mean if you're in middle school and you're super excited to play a game you might be compelled to read a book about it. Maybe use it as your summer book report or something.
>>
>>730035802
never played it but i own the book lol
>>
>>730043054
Honestly at the time a lot. The Halo novels were a sleeper hit and were selling well by then, Microsoft had a publishing deal with Delrey at the time to do a bunch of book prequels. They churned out a Crimson Skies prequel novel as well.
>>
It's funny how everyone still loves the PS2 and GC but the OG Xbox has just kind of disappeared from existence.
>>
I remember playing this back in the day and I never got anywhere, I remember some wookie planet looking place that was confusing as hell to navigate.

It was pretty fun from what I remember, very rough around the edges but it had co-op, it had multiplayer with multiple different groups. You could never get something like that today without it being some 5-year development cycle bloatware AAA that has cosmetics and a season passs and dies out after 4 months
>>
>>730043761
I had good times with my Xbox. I also had the red ring of death three times in the span of five years, so I have a lingering bitterness towards the console.
>>
>>730043054
>>730043460
sad news
I NO LONGER OWN THE BOOK D:
i never owned an xbox and never would have played but i'm a bookfag autist. all i remember is that there was a betrayal cliffhanger at the very end so if it was a prequel, that makes sense to set up whatever the story was ingame.
>>
>>730043761
it's because you still can't emulate it properly, it actually had lots of great games, some of them are not available anywhere else yet
>>
>>730044048
The original Xbox didn't RRoD.
>>
>>730043761
It was objectively the worst console of that gen from a mechanical perspective. Those fucking things were temperamental and fragile back when they were new, and worse now since the clock capacitor's just become a fucking suicide pill that could go off any minute if you don't clip it out.
>>
>>730044484
Bullshit, it was a frequent problem.

oh but they did. They had a lot of the exact same problems the 360 did with the gpu overheating and killing itself, or the capacitors in the psu would just explode for no reason randomly and brick the whole thing.
>>
>>730042995
2001 christmas... my parents got me an xbox with project gotham racing and halo (even though they normally didn't buy me M rated games cause i was i guess 9 years old at the time)
i played the fuck out of both of them... great times
>>
>>730037084
>my memory may be a little off but iirc it was being hyped as a new halo
You're memory is correct but that also applies to every shooter after Halo.

Killzone, Resistance, The Conduit, Haze, Brute Force, etc. Nothing escaped being called the next Halo.
>>
>>730045384
>Haze
I'll never forget the day when my Sonyfriend showed that alleged Halo-killer.
>>
>>730045384
Sony was so desperate for something to compete with Halo that they issued reprints of Fire Warrior with a bunch of like 5/5 and 9/10 scores from shit rags to try and sell it as a halo killer.

It was awesome, I fucking loved bullying people in multiplayer as the Shrikes.
>>
>>730046332
Sony already had a potential Halo killer in Timesplitters. They should have done more to keep that series going.
>>
>>730035802
Yeah, I remember Halo CE had a trailer for this game in it and I bought it cause of that. Was pretty disappointed, but I found it amusing that everytime you died it was a clone replacing the real character
>>
>>730035802
I have 3 copy's I have never put in my console yet
>>
>>730047142
Today is the day then. Boot it up and play as the lizard guys, the red lizard is the coolest one fyi.
