When I first played and realised Capcom tricked us with all those colours killed what little trust I had in modern games. I wanted to hope and cope, but what we ended up getting was the worst betrayal.
I literally have no desire to play a game on launch ever again. Thank God I had the foresight to not be baited by KCD2, every game dev is a lying jew in spirit.

I wonder what the hell went wrong at Capcom with both games. I think some of us were speculating that they halted DD2's development for the upcoming real money maker MH but that game seemingly turned out even worse. Does the company just no longer care about quality?
Maybe they're just going through the same western investor phase as western AAAs went through, where they just get pressured into making unfinished woke trash because it will make money either way.

i don't know anymore, Crapcom no longer cares, that RE engine was a mistake
>>
Why did they have to downgrade the Gear system? Having two layers for torso and legs was amazing
>>
>>730073998
I don't think the RE engine was a mistake, I think they're using it for what it's weakest at (open world stuff).
DMC5 looked great except they fumbled that with muted colors+face scanning.
DD2 had poor performance in the city.
Monhun Wilds is made by actual streetshitters who replace artistic talent, ingenuity and logic with pushing the engine. You can't fucking render and load every single bit of fauna and plant in the entire map at once and expect that to work out.
It was clearly designed by amateurs, hence why the right of the screen is a constant waterfall of updates about when Congalala shits in the woods. I don't fucking care about dung upsurges.
>>

this game is monster hunter for people who are too bad to play monster hunter
also runs like absolute dogshit and somehow has a far, far worse toon creator than wilds even though they both have the same engine. I guess dragon's dogshit just has ugliness built into its art style and world building.
>>

DD2 and Wilds sold well
>>
>>730079508
I didn't say they didn't. I said they bombed. Reception was garbage, the games were hated. MHwilds universally and only the very dedicated contrarians on /v/ claimed DD2 was better than DD1. They tricked a lot of people into preorders but they're never going to be able to release a monster hunter again. Even the rubes aren't going to fall for it.

Getting somewhere originally should be a chaotic and fun adventure. Returning there should be simple. This is the entire premise for portcrystals as a mechanic yet the way they are used in DD2 is abysmal

It was a fun game. All my problems I have with it are exact replicas of the problems I have with the original game, mainly the shit performance and absurd lack of difficulty even well into the post-game. I don't even mind easy games but these games feel like they are made for toddlers.

Noone who wanted a DD sequel wanted less classes and the removal of BBI like content with less character customization options. Why was there so few armours and nothing like a color pallete swapper or something, and no NG+ content and difficulties, again. Its the most 7/10 I can recall. Again, id play more if they made it, but as it is its just one of those games you play, enjoy, then never think about again, this is not what DD1 was for people at all.

Monsters don't ignore you when you stand on them, unless they are already knocked down or distracted by other pawns with aggro abilities. Otherwise, they always flail around while you can do nothing but locked into that animation where you're trying to maintain your balance. No longer being forced to cling to monsters is way better for every class, especially no longer needing to spam stamina items every five seconds for fighter/thief.
>>
>>730084926
DD2 was a perfectly serviceable 6.5/10 squel to a 7/10 game, MGSV is a 7/10 on a good day and was INSANELY hyped up from every corner of the internet and was a sequel to some of the most well-recognized and amibtious games ever made, that falls off a steep cliff when you get to Africa and is an utter trainwreck of storytelling, pacing and presentation.

ill give you the other 3 but fighter and warrior were both fun in 1 and arguably they didn't improve variety that much
like fighter in dd1 was dragon maw spam while warrior in dd2 can spam skyward sunder and it'll delete drakes faster than any of their other moves
>>

It does do a lot of fucking damage though, when the pawns decide to actually turn their AI on

I dunno, man. Warrior is no fun for me in two and I resent the fact that I have to carry a shield around for fighter's big dick damage attack.

Did a warrior only run in DD1 and needless to say it's way better than people give it credit for.
Granted, it does a lot of that bunnyhopping gay shit and all the nukes and stuns barely work in BBI. But you can delete even Grigori with 1-2 charged moves.

warrior is considerably worse than fighter in DD1 and on like 3 different metrics

>What broke /v/ more, Metal Gear Solid 5, or Dragons Dogma 2?

MGSV is more like DD1, where despite the game's flaws, there's nothing else quite like it. People will say "Oh its just Far Cry" but the amount of mechanics and shit you can play around with in that game is insane. DD2 is way worse simply because of the fact that DD1 exists and is a better game

>more HP
>has hyper armor on its normals
>more range
Figtehe has a shield? You mean like Assassin and Mystic Knight which shit all over it?
>>
>>730085768
The pawns are better in a gameplay sense, they can play the game for you they are that good. In DD1 literally 90% of pawns were useless because they had that guardian perk etc and would run around literally doing nothing most of the time when you observe them. While I would prefer if they just made these perks better and improved AI, the pawns do not work worse than in DD1.

They also needed like 5 more personalities and behaviours. DD1 let you pick how your pawn responds to commands and when they do certain actions, now its all tied to their personality. It takes away a lot of the personality when you have the same characters across all the characters. Honestly the pawn system in DD is one of those interesting game systems that is utterly lacking in ambition, its like the nemesis system in those Shadow of War games, the people that made it have no idea what they made and how great it could be with just simple improvements.

For fuck sake, how did we not get enemy pawns for example, like you have other peoples pawns show up as the mobs in peoples games. Why is there LESS customization in regards to armour selection for a game about sharing characters, there shouldve been catalogues of stuff to make distinct pawns. DD is such a frustrating IP.

And it destroys any kind of combo game.

preemptive positioning takes more thought and knowledge than pressing the invincibility button at the correct time.
but 99% of players are actually as deluded as you which is why there are so many games releasing nowadays where the ideal way of playing is just to stand still and deflect all incoming attacks. it's an incredibly shallow mechanic that allows devs to force hitbox collisions and somehow has managed to fool people into thinking it's deep when it actually just turns the games into punch out, except with completely unused 3D space

Just makes you wonder why they even have armour restrictions at all, like they couldve had it that you get extra mana/stamina/ depending on the armour so blue classes are inclined to wear light armour, not required to. There is some good fashion in the game but you cant fucking wear it becuase its class locked.

I have no idea. I still don't get why SOTC has some of the best animation work ever and has good physics, it's weird that DD1/DD2/BOTW and everything else that tried to copy it fail miserably at it in terms of both animation work and fun.

this could be a good point if fighter just sat in one place and did not use preemptive positioning at all, however in actuality fighter literally exploits two mechanics instead of one and you can be good at either or both, hence the high skill ceiling from the extra option existing

>>730087913
More or less. Every new feature you add to the system takes resources away to other things. Also they want to use new engines and that fucks things up too. Dragon's Dogma 1 used the MT Framework engine, Dragons Dogma 2 uses RE Engine.

Reach ox cart, sit at bench up to three times waiting for ox cart to show up, sit on ox cart and activate dialogue, fade out to halfway to your destination because your ox cart got attacked because it fucking always does, fade out to reaching your destination. This shit just takes a really long time compared to a few seconds of menuing for a ferrystone. And thats if your ox cart isn't destroyed.

There's really no reason to like JRPGs. The genre lived on for decades on undeserved rep while doubling down on its mistakes and bad habits instead of evolving. >It lacks a denoiser.
I'll explain how it works:

- With base settings it runs okay but the shadows become pitch black which makes the game borderline unplayable in exteriors during the day.
- With 1+ light bounces that is fixed but then you get intense and ugly as shit film grain(noise) and your GPU starts panicking
- So you increase the denoiser settings to make it look better and then your GPU starts crying and now your frame rate is sub 60

Then there are other settings that help kinda, sometimes, but they cause flickering shadows and shit so it's basically unplayable in another direction
>>

How many directors finally escape the yoke of their horrible publisher oppressors only to humiliate themselves publicly shortly thereafter?

Itsuno did not have the skill to realize his own vision. That’s why DD2 is the way that it is.
>>
Are people still being paid to shill E33 and BG3? I'm never playing them for the same reason I cancelled my DD2 pre-order when the character creator demo came out. I don't play games with ugly characters. I'm not paying to look at pseudo-realistic renditions of the average unattractive person you'd see riding public transport in a major city, I can literally do that for free.
>>
>>730089624
No, it's because AAA whether it's east or west is obsessed with kicking out the behind the scenes talent that made their shit work in favor of support studios, low cost interns, and diversity. When you replace the people good at their job with people that are not good at their job quality will invariably collapse.
>>
>>730088415
Honestly it's a little bit of both what you're saying and >>730088282. On one hand it was lame that vocations borrowed weapons from each other on top of certain skills in DD1. However, they also made up for it by making sure most vocations had something only they could wield and the focus of each was still clear regardless thanks to the skills. Strider and Ranger both use daggers, but the former is more melee focused and getting in people's face while the latter is about using your longbow at optimal ranges and you even get way more bow kills than Strider does while lacking in melee-oriented ones. Mystick Knights can do bludgeon damage and enchant their shields and so on. Assassin is the only vocation that borrows a little bit from everyone while still being entirely its own thing with counters and unique ways to maneuver with the shield that Fighter can't.

So despite the limitations there was still uniqueness to each vocation. 2 has the uniqueness it's just considerably less due to most vocations lacking a secondary weapon. Ranger relies solely on bow, thief has no ranged attacks and on top of that certain still are outright inferior to their predecessor like implicate only targeting ONE AT A TIME instead of multiple like it used to. Ranger retains almost none of the skills from DD2's ranger vocation, instead opting to make using special arrows as intended their own skill slot. Fucking why?

Overall there's a lot of bizarre and unfavorable design choices with how vocations operate in DD2 that don't make utilizing them as rewarding or powerful, and that's largely the biggest problem. You don't feel strong because you're expected to rely on pawns to make up for your shortcomings. Which yeah that was the intention of the first game, but in 2 you just feel chopped off at the needs at all times.
>>
>>730089703

It's going to be a DMC clone first. An RPG the size of DD would be too much for a new company.
>>
>>730089624
The reason is different for both games I think:
>Capcom never wanted DD2 to be some massive project because they knew that it would never see the returns necessary on it to justify it
>MH World managed to be the best selling game in Capcom’s history and it was a massive streamlining of the MH formula. They thought they could replicate the feat with even more streamlining in Wilds
Couple that with the company mandate that every game MUST use their own proprietary game engine and that’s why DD2 and Wilds are the way they are. Wilds at least will get a G rank expansion that will attempt to fix the game, I doubt anything is coming for DD2.

It’s because the amount of money needed for modern game dev has ballooned to such ludicrous degrees that even modest projects require cost cutting measures in order to be profitable. There’s just too much work to be done in asset creation now.
And while I personally wouldn’t mind every video game looking like it belongs on the PS2 that wouldn’t sell at all lol.
>>730089746
Look I’d be happy to be wrong because I’ve loved Itsuno’s work all the way back to Rival Schools. But we’re also 15 years removed from men like Inafune and Chris Roberts begging for money on Kickstarter to realize their “vision” that mean ebil publishers wouldn’t let them do. And there’s a mountain of disgraced directors between them and now (and yes I know that Itsuno isn’t grifting for Kickstarter money but you get my point).
I just don’t believe in the idea of an auteur game director anymore, unless it’s entirely made by one man. Even Kojimbo, who has tried so fucking hard his whole life to present himself as a visionary, relied on a guy like Fukushima to make the stories not be complete dogshit. It’s why everything he’s made from MGS4 onwards has been almost embarrassingly bad in terms of writing.

The problem is that for Capcom it’s largely working. Wilds’ problems are engine based and top level design mistakes, no one cares that some underpaid support studio modeler made a tree asset. If they did World and Rise wouldn’t be the best selling games in the franchise. Nor would the new Resident Evil games all be critically and commercially successful (RE3R excluded). Nor Street Fighter 6 be the only fighting game with a pulse. Outsourcing only becomes a problem if entire games are outsourced, which is what Capcom did in the early 2010s and we know how that turned out.
>Just look at what happened to square and FF.
The collapse of Final Fantasy is a somewhat unique phenomenon. Sure it’s easy to point out ugly NPC models made by jeets but I don’t think that’s even a top 50 reason as to why people aren’t buying modern FF titles. They have two major issues: the first is the same shit that affected DD2 and Wilds, which were major design mistakes. Whether it be time jannies in FFVIIR or a bizarre insistence on being the worlds worst RPG in XVI there are serious fundamental flaws with modern FF games. What makes FF unique is the time scale. People have been upset with modern FF going back to at least XIII. That was over 15 years ago. Since then you’ve gotten two XIII sequels, XV, XVI, and the FFVII Remake project. All of which have had mixed receptions at best and release *years* apart from one another and each one becomes the most expensive game SE has ever made. There’s simply far too much time spent waiting on the next game in a series that’s greatest success in the last decade is a declining MMO. The management isn’t incompetent here, it’s deranged.

I booted it up again yesterday and had shitton of fun. Game isn't worth more than $30 but it's great for just some mindless exploration and monster slaying. Also runs at 80-100 FPS on 1440p with everything maxed out on my 5800x3d and 9070 xt. Also love my caring cat wife
>>
I really don't care how it looks so long as it runs well, performance is my first concern. I'd have been fine if Dragon's Dogma 2 just looked like Dragon's Dogma 1 again, at least then it wouldn't drop to 10fps anytime I went into a town.

MT framework ran like a dream, Lost Planet, Dragon's Dogma 1, DMC4, RE6, all looked great for their day, and ran great on hardware of the day.
REengine struggles on anything more complex than a couple of zombies in a corridor.

You clearly weren’t around for the game’s launch on either console or PC because it ran like fucking shit. The game had mixed reviews on Steam even for a long time due to all the issues.
But it’s been 8 years since World launched and hardware improved so now those issues are a distant memory.

Rise’s development included making a portable version of the RE Engine.
I don’t think that game gets enough credit for being one of the most stable, well running 3rd party games on the Switch.

You people forget that DD1 was released on PC in 2016, over 3 years after the original console release on PS3 and 360, where it ran like absolute ass, it a well known fact.

Mid range 8th gen PC was entirely different league than 7th gen consoles.

They released PS4 and Xbone version after the PC, and it was locked to 30 fps, because it was still demanding on CPU.

On the moon everything would fall slower and get launched into the air more easily and momentum would be less impeded. Which is exactly what happens with DD2 (and most modern AAAs for that matter).
Higher gravity would mean moving faster.
>>
>>730085035
I tried it. You just sit around watching a 40-50 year old in a spandex suit up the ass while waiting for some guy on a route to walk over there while another walks over yonder, so you can slip between them unnoticed because the combat is shit.
Honestly extremely boring and the story and aesthetic of the world didn't really capture me either
>>
>>730097438
There are so many issues with it that everyone focuses on a different poison. For me its:
>movement feels sluggish and slow
>animations feel more '''cinematic''' and less tied to inputs
>enemies are lethargic and attack far less than in DD1
>large enemies tend to thrash about aimlessly instead of targeting you or your pawns
>Fights feel like they've been designed for spectacle over gameplay
If you're into western AAAslop gameplay like nu God of War, you might prefer this to DD1.
