The MCU has done a lot of heavy lifting here. 15 years ago they were in the same boat as DC where the only thing that could sell *anything* was Spider-Man and X-Men.
Right now though DC is in an okay spot with Absolute and the compacts which outsell a lot of Marvel’s catalogue even if Marvel still dominates market share overall

Hoh yeah, the Absolute run and the compacts are doing gangbusters comparatively to whatever Marvel's trying to do on the comic front. It doesn't help that Marvel's editorial department is just so incredibly bad and shortsighted that they don't let runs get many issues, or they simply meddle too much in the story and sour the whole thing

I think that can be chalked up to how different DC and Marvel's situations were. DC clung to their IP while Marvel sold X-Men and Spiderman off to the highest bidder in the mid-90s (20th Century Fox and Sony, respectively) for movie rights. I don't know if I can say they would have been any different from DC if they still had access to their two biggest IPs for movies.

My greatest fear is that neither Marvel nor DC actually understand why DC's current strategy is working and that will cause them both to do retarded shit like they always do.
