The start is barebones because you really dont have as much defensive and offensive options, so it might give players the initial idea that the game feels clunky to play agaisnt multiple enemies, but really once you unlock counters, especially aoe counters. Stellar Blade actually does a great job at giving you enough options and not make any one of them super OP in that you just spam that, but it doenst also leave you feeling weak and underpowered. I like that you unlock skills instead of leveling up stats. Action RPGs should be more like that and less like Elden Ring and Dark Souls. Leveling stats just isnt cool, its the illusion of progression. Stellar Blade is far more Sekiro than Souls, which makes the combat far more dynamic. Actual criticisms would be how static the open world is. This game could really benefir from the Dark Souls approach of inter connected levels. Theres not much point to the open endedness of the levels. It also fixes what is probably a good idea that is just annoying: You slow down in combat. This was implemented to discourage the player from simply running past everything but its just kinda annoying in open world. It could be implemented better in levels. Boss design is honestely excellent.
