7 has the best gameplay and best graphics. Amazing music. Misunderstood and underrated story. Of course it has some flaws too, mostly to do with its storytelling.
4 is the best experience overall. A lot of score attack missions, but not a single bad mission. Megalith is the best climax in the series. The best story in the series. Best vibes in the series.
Zero is very comparable to 4, where there aren't really any bad missions. Best characters. The FMV cutscenes are a double edged sword though.
3 is maybe inarguably the coolest as a game and what it tries to do as a game. I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay compared to the later titles, but 3 is up there with stuff like Ghost in the Shell and Metal Gear Solid in terms of an experience.

Zero. Just because the focus on dog fights meant the player got to fight so many enemy Aces. And the concept of the Round Table had a really romantic flavor that turned all the aces into "knights". That brings up the thing I didn't like about 7 which was the focus on drone combat since the game was made back when drones were still a hot topic. It's kind of lame when most of the enemy planes are just faceless drones with no backstory. Granted the story was still crazy anyway.

We need a WWII era ace combat. It's shocking to me that they have never tried it before, it has so much more potential since dogfighting is actually dogfighting in WWII, not just planes lobbing missiles and evading with flares.

As for the question, it has to be 5. The first one I ever played was 4 but 5 was my favorite. A lot of people will say Zero because the story is a bit more interesting but I still like 5's story and characters a lot. 6 is underrated too but many people never played it since xbox exclusive still to this day.

The worst thing though is all of the best games are just stuck on the old consoles if you won't emulate them. I mean shit, I just want a port collection of 4, 5, 6 and zero, they don't even need to remaster anything, just port them to PC and modern consoles and make it a collection for $60, I'd buy it.

>As it should be.
HELL no.
5's gameplay is great. It's some of the best in the series.
The only problem with 5 is it's also got a handful of missions that are incredibly annoying to replay on high difficulties, because you have no checkpoints and have to wait out a long scripted sequence or dialogue moment to finish.

But 6 has a story that is actively detrimental to the experience.
I would genuinely rather play the first two plotless PS1 games if I just wanted an arcade challenge, because 6's story is so bad.
>>
>>730395884
I've played both of those games. I want an ace combat style WWII game still, like a historic war set in strangereal with similar nations and whatnot, could model one nation after the germans, one after the societs, one after america, the uk, etc,

I played crimson skies back on the OG xbox, it had a fun online multiplayer I used to use the helicopter plane on that city level and hide in the skyscrapers to surprise other players. Fun times. Shame that game never got a sequel.

I like how each squad leader had their own personality and reflected the life they lived. Like how Grun leader was just trying to adapt to the war like adapting on the streets to live, so he was a centrist on the morality path. The devs weren't lazy like in AC7 which is the exact opposite and endgame characters not having anything that sets them apart other than a static portrait. They put everything they could into Zero, it's THE Ace Combat game.

owned by Microsoft but as a FASA IP it's in a weird limbo.
FASA cofounder Jordan Weisman licensed all of his old IPs back to himself when he left Microsoft but he also keeps setting up companies to manage one IP at a time and then shuttering them.
Harebrained Schemes might have had the license last but he sold the company to Paradox in 2018 and the only thing they did with it was a facebook game about pirates anyway.

I like Zero because of the exact opposite of what you're saying, because it's one long "fuck you" to the concept of the noble knight-like fighter pilot, as well as practically mocking 5 for being naive bullshit. Don't mistake me, I'm not saying that Zero is right and 5 is just about naive children, I'm saying that that's what Zero feels like. A cynical rebuttal to the concept of "fighting for peace" because you can stop the war but you can't stop the next one from starting, and all you'll end up doing is fighting someone else's war for their benefit at the end of it all.

It's a cynicism that Ace Combat never really revisits, and that's why Zero is the best to me - because compared to all the others, Zero feels like the game with the most to say.

I have been seething about Ace Combat 6. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Deciding to post this because anons might find this funny.

There are at least 4 "Fuck Yous" Ace Combat 6 gives the player in its story.
1. "Go dance with the angels!" is presented, literally, in its first use, as a wife telling her pilot husband to go fuck off when he's not paying enough attention to her. They then kind of backtrack this and pretend its' a cutesy thing their daughter says, but basically a cutesy way of saying "Go fuck yourself!" is a central motif of the story.
2. There's that one Strigon Team pilot who really wants to fuck his captain. This is pretty much the extent of the character development for Strigon Team. You could compare this in Ace Combat 4 to the boy in the interludes looking up to Yellow 13 as a father figure, but of course that's relatable and understandable in the context of the story because the kid is a war orphan in need of a father figure. It's a really cool way of making Yellow 13 respectable. In Ace 6 the only way you'd find Mr. "Man, my captain is so hot" relateable is if you were gay. I think the game might be trying to call the player gay.
3. If you've played the game you know "The Golden King" is a laden symbol in the story, representing the spirit of Gracemeria, etc. etc.
It's not just a missing suit of golden armor, it's Gracemeria's "hopes and dreams" etc. etc., which ended up being protected by the children, who had moved the suit of armor from its throne to a hiding place beneath the castle. So a very sweet metaphor about "hope being with our children" or something like that. etc. etc.
Of course, the reveal of the Golden King after you discover the children have been hiding it, is undercut by an erection joke, where the armor is sitting on top of a tank with the cannon between its legs.
4. If you pay attention to the dialogue, Gracemeria is bombed by cruise missiles during the final mission.

Zero. The story being told in a Ken Burns style documentary and the use of a Spanish guitar to tell you when shit has gotten real was fucking brilliant and I want to see more games do that. >Gracemeria is bombed by cruise missiles during the final mission.
What really sucks about this one in particular (besides the fact that right at the last minute it turns blowing up the final superweapon into a hollow victory) is you spend the first 5-to-7 minutes of the previous mission watching fireworks to celebrate your victory in the war, then you have to chase down multiple cruise missiles in a repeat of Breaking Arrows from 4.
Then, in the final mission, along with the dialogue about Gracemeria being bombed, there's also dialogue about how all of your air defense fighters are currently on the mission to destroy the big superweapon. It's just such a bad/bizarre flatulent ending.

THEN
They don't even address this in the post-mission/credits cutscene reel. They just carry on as if it actually was a happy ending.

It's like they wanted to tell a story like 4's about the cost of war, but they pulled all their punches and never actually show anything bad happening. Everyone's so smiley and happy in 6 you'd think war was just a game to these people (as opposed to better Ace Combat games very successfully reminding you war is far more than a mere game). And then we get told something bad happens right at the end, as if the game wants to finally be about something real, but it quickly moves on past it and pretends it didn't actually happen.
I am convinced Ace 6 is Project Aces making fun of Xbox users.
>>
Zero - I fuckin love documentaries and the ace squadrons. The entire tone of the game works for me.

3 would be right below Zero, I think the weighty physics of 3 are underrated and the way the game plays is better than many of the other entries in the series.
>>
>>730402604
That either shouldn't be something that can happen at all, or if you do "fail" the final mission, the game should address it in the final cutscenes.
I've only played this game once, but the story is so fucking bad on every other level I'm not interested in trying to figure out whether the game has a weird pseudo final mission fail state.
>>
>>730402676
i think the theme of 6 was less 'the cost of war' and more 'life goes on despite hardship'

i've beaten 1-3 and 7, and i'm currently playing through 4. So far 1-3 were pretty exciting in their own ways, but 4 and 7 are pretty much the same game, besides balance. 3's pretty impressive for a ps1 game but the flying isn't as smooth as in the newer titles so right now i would say 2 and 7 are my favourite. Why? 7 introduced me to the series and 2 has both the coolest missions and the coolest ost
>>
>>730402929
yeah, 7 was a huge gameplay downgrade from 6 but I think most of it has to do with Unreal just being a shit engine.
>>
>>730402981
Forgot to add, Zero is the best because of how bleak it is, it really sits with you after you finish, not to add its necessary replayability with the 3 ace styles and 3xchoice missions

>>
>>730402858
Yea and it feels so fucking fake because it pulls all its punches. "Life goes on despite hardship" is only something you can say in comparison to actual hardship, but nothing bad happens in the story, except your copilot losing his wife right at the end, and Gracemeria getting bombed to shit by cruise missiles (which the game then pretends doesn't happen).

One of the worst offenses it commits is having characters start saying "Maybe it's time to go dance with the angels myself!" because this is characters basically saying "Man, maybe I should die, lol!" and it's framed in this bizarre robotic way like nobody actually cares an officer just made a joking allusion to dying.

The Golden King erection joke has me convinced this was Project Aces taking the piss. I bet they were laid with a bunch of demands from Microsoft or some western party about what kind of game they could make so they made it shitty on purpose.
It's the only thing that makes sense to me with this story.

That's design choices for 7, not Unreal. 5 had way too much player dick sucking, more than any previous or since, and maybe i'm just bad at 5 but i never felt like i earned the title of razgriz, where as in 6 you're never given a special nickname just garuda 1 or that bird emblem, something far easier to feel connected to and its also didnt have somehow belka returned, which is what really killed the story for me, as for 4 i just didnt like it, no special reasoning, it just wasnt to my taste

I think anon means the fact that in Zero you're able to choose which objective you want to complete in certain missions.
The problem is in Zero this completely changes these missions. It's essentially a branching path system, where each mission that lets you choose which objective to complete is actually 3 seperate missions that use the same map. You have to replay the mission to get the full experience.

In 6, virtually every single mission lets you choose from one of three starting locations and which objective you want to complete.
The problem is, once you complete the objective, the mission keeps going and you're tasked with completing the other two mission objectives or the mission fails.
So every single fucking mission in 6 ends up playing the same way.
>>
>>730404112
Nah 6 doesn't have theater choice, it had entry choice, big difference, 3 missions vs 1

>>
>>730404060
Actually, I should correct myself because the locations are partly the same because both games are about the war with Erusea, it's just that PS2 game doesn't look beautiful and I have eyes to notice it.

>>730404465
You could try listing what you liked about 04. As for me, there's nothing that makes this series so beloved. The plot is simple, told through static images, most missions are point grinds, and there aren't even any dialogues with interesting characters during missions.
>>
>>730404564
I blame Assault Horizon sooner than I'd blame 7. But if you really have to blame 7, it's the more modern casual audiences brought in that largely can't even play the older games in the first place and won't go out of their way to emulate them either.

It's a requiem. Heed my words! This boat has the means to end this hideous war, in a definitive and elegant manner. We seek not a conflict, but rather a restoration of balance, a judgment. And it will be done with reason, from beginning to end. The world shall be horrified by the number of lives we will take. Only then will they let go of their weapons... Weapons that would have taken the lives of ten million. ...Let me tell you a story. Back when I was a gunnery officer... I had to aim at an enemy ship 30 kilometers away in the middle of a storm. The seas were rough that day, and still, I landed one of the two shots. Target is the Osean capital of Oured! To take the lives of one million people, 5,000 kilometers away, with my very own hands! GAH! Don't you see, Three Strikes?! Ten million lives will be saved at the cost of a mere million lives! Don't you see? Don't you see?! LANDING A CLEAN SHOT ON A DIFFICULT TARGET! THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT ELEGANT! THAT IS TRUE BEAUTY! ... ALAS, YOU DON'T SEE, THREE STRIKES! OF COURSE YOU WOULDN'T! HHHUAHAHAHAHAH! ONE MILLION! ONE MILLION LIVES GONE!

I've been playing AC7 for a few days and despite trying my hardest I'm just not feeling it. The story is just ridiculous, the dialogue is retarded (lots of talking to say nothing), the checkpoint system sucks ass, and this might just be a personal thing but I only really enjoy the dogfighting. Having to take out radar, SAMs, and annihilation mission score attack shit in general is just so gay. 5. Aside from the unapologetic Blurry song that got my blood pumping when I first played it, I just love having wingmen that makes me feel like we're a team. The whole Razgriz squadron just makes me feel like we're an unstoppable force of nature and the frantic cries of the enemies later on in the game when they heard that we're on the battlefield just pumps me up.

That's why I'm excited with 8. It seems like they're going back to the whole tight squadron motif.

AC8's announcement at the gay awards being the only good thing there made me finally start to play the ace combat games in my backlog back in december, which so far has been the PS2 trilogy played in release order. out of those three, my favorite was probably AC5, mainly due to the fact that i really liked the story. i've heard it doesn't have much replayability compared to the other games though (and after playing through AC0 even once that seems quite apparent) so if i ever decide to replay the PS2 trilogy in the future i'll probably not enjoy it as much as i did the first time around and my opinion might change.

King,
King of tremendous majesty,
who freely saves those worthy ones,
save me, source of mercy.

(in Agnus Dei)
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant them rest.
May eternal light shine upon them, O Lord:
With Thy Saints forevermore:

Ace Combat X is objectively the third best Ace Combat game, behind 2 and 0.
>>
>>730425202
I like it. I give it a 8/10. I like the part where missions you already completed may affect future missions on the map.
The jammer mission is fucking brutal. You have to manually spot those hidden power stations by following power lines on your tiny ass PSP screen. I also experience enemies sometimes clipping through mountains for some reason lmao.
>>
>>730397076
It's good but it feels like a remix of all the previous ones, not bringing much new things to the table.
>>
>>730397076
Do you have experience in flight sims in any shape or form? If not, then choose normal controls.
>>
>>730426223
Do the opposite of this.
>>
>>730397076
use expert controls
>>730426223
standard controls literally make the game harder, what the fuck are you talking about? expert controls give you full control over the plane while standard cucks you into four directions.
>>
>>730426223
No, standard makes the game harder for imposing restrictions on flying. It makes flying out of the space eevator much harder than need be
>>
>>730387081
There's no science beyond what we have that retains aircraft - manned ones, at that - as a concept. Space warfare comes after, and that stuff requires some serious autism to grasp, and isn't really that exciting (imagine month-long engagements, coasting to your death over weeks, or for that matter, sudden engagements that are over in less than a second, largely carried out by autonomous systems. it's stuff that will never make a good game if you retain the hard science part of science fiction.

Ace Combat 5 for being one of my favorite roller coaster rides in all of video games. The way the story, characters, music and presentation all come together plays me like a damn fiddle. It's not often a game has me that invested, plays my expectations, and has payoff after payoff. I think it also does the best job of being cheesy as all hell but also 'believable.' Kind of like the Metal Gear Solid games but less serious. I'm not sure the best way to describe it.

I do love Zero though and its FMV's and variable boss battles. I think I managed to get perfect soldier on my first run so I should replay for the others some time.
>>
>>730428248
yeah, but I was told that the early games were more "simulator-like". can you believe that?
>>
i only played the first 3 but the second one was my favorite from those. i liked them all though, they still hold up. and i only played them recently.
>>
>>730386954
AC04 has the most grounded setting, interesting worldbuilding and cohesive story structure of all of them. They really tried to make it a sim-like and not an arcade style plane game like the older titles. Plus splitting the narrative between you the fighter pilot and the kid in the cutscenes, and keeping both plots separate until the end, was a very smart move.

Every subsequent game has ramped up the anime kiddie nonsense and has been worse for it, even though gameplay and graphics have improved. They're even afraid to include as much real world fighter jargon during the missions, probably to avoid confusing the little kids. Zero is interesting as an unintentional critique of anarchism but 5,6, and 7 were just awfully schlock stories.
>>
>>730386954
5 and it's not close. By far the best story, best missions, best moments, best OST. The entire ending arc is so fucking cool with the ark bird, falling satellite, that one mission with the fleet and where everyone starts singing in unison...

People keep saying Zero but it was one of the worst for me; story was incredibly flat and unoriginal, missions were really boring, the morality system felt tacked on... The spanish guitars and documentary style were great but you can get that vibe without even playing the game.
>>
Shattered Skies is my favorite. There is an argument to be made for Zero, but I will not accept Unsung War as being an answer for the best one. While good and I recommend playing it, the story is garbage weeb shit and there are too many awful fucking missions that make it unreplayable. Shattered Skies has one of the best told stories in a video game ever, awesome fucking music, and doesn't overstay its welcome. Zero's story isn't as good, but it has some really unique presentation and excellent gameplay moments like Excalibur, the nuke, the duel, and so on. You should still absolutely play Unsung War because it contextualizes Zero.
>>
>>730433528
Shattered Skies is good and all but the story isn't anything special, it's very simple with not a ton going on. Nor is it particularly unique. Great game and story don't get me wrong. Though idk why you're complaining about weebshit given how that game ends.

Also no game tops Zero for weebshit, for the final boss you're jousting in planes while Pixy recites absolute fucking nonsense about borders to you. That said, Pixy is the only good part of that game.

I think it really comes down to what you value in an Ace Combat game. 5 has its 'whatever' missions that are admittedly kind of gimmicky and can be a slog to (re)play if you're purely focused on gameplay, but I think they serve the narrative and experience the story is trying to deliver quite well. It's Metal Gear-tier insanity but it does a great job at twisting the player's expectations. 4 is kind of anemic when it comes to character/grand story but has great missions and its kind of storybook presentation has a great charm and is easily digestible. Zero's presentation is maximum cheese with its (awesome) FMV's and is great for replays with the whole Knight/Soldier/Mercenary system changing which fights you encounter and end cutscenes. As another anon said, Pixy is the best part about the story. I personally can't remember many beats from it, but I sure as hell remember jet-jousting that pseudo intellectual dipshit and then him becoming a ground soldier to "find out what borders really mean, and what their volition is," whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean. It's all rule of cool nonsense without any writing to back it up, which is not a complaint. Depending on what you value, that's even better since there's no 'story' missions to get in the way of things.

Then if you like great gameplay, pretty graphics and Marvel movie-esque "remember this thing??" cameo's you go for Ace Combat 7.

Ace Combat has a place for all of us.
>>
Did the trailer for Ace Combat 8 remind anyone of Top Gun: Maverick? Mainly the shots with the pilots in their jets with the crazy helmets.
>>
They seriously need to stop bringing in Katabuchi as a writer. I don't even dislike his anime work (Black Lagoon is peak) but his writing does not translate well to video game narratives. It says everything that the game with the best story, Zero, didn't even have a lead story writer: the story was just something the devs came up with to further the gameplay, and the only credited writers were for the in-mission radio scripts.

Why the fuck did AC7 put yaw on the shoulder buttons instead of the triggers?
>>
>>730408705
Blaze and Cipher are on the same level for me, since the Razgriz song(s) implies that
But the major difference between both of them and Mobius and Trigger is that they were attached to the figure of Razgriz, a preexisting entity / symbol that does the wild shit, like becoming a demon or a hero while both Mobius and Trigger were the symbols themselves.
Now if we put Yellow13 and Mihaly at the same level, and then the drones were also at the same level as Mihaly, then Trigger shot down 2 Mihaly's which is equal to two Yellow13s...?
So probably Trigger :^)
>>
>>730442760
Because that's how it should be
Accelerate/decelerate being on triggers is how every single game with a vehicle does it
I even rebind my controls for old AC's to have yaw on r1/l1 and accel/deaccel on r2/l2 because its just right
>>
>>730442760
Accelerate/decelerate is analog since 6 IIRC.

Mobius 1 canonically flew solo so he went toe to toe with basically Sol Squadron at the time by himself. Trigger has a squad and sometimes a wingman most of the time. It's pretending hard enough that it's annoying when it fails so miserably. Nobody wants to hear your life story on net during combat, emcon means enemies AND friendlies don't know where you are, autocannons don't evaporate after a set distance... There are a lot of strange, unnecessary choices in the series that could just as well have not been made. The reality is that it was made by a bunch of japanese geeks with weird ideas and no real desire to emulate reality outside of aesthetics. It's okay to admit that you're a fucking geek, lol.

Have fun!
You can also get ACX on the PSP as that's close to AC4 thematically. Same applies to Air Combat and AC2 on the PS1, but they're archaic (the latter has a 3DS remake as Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy) and there's no real "story" besides the plot of the campaign as it progresses, which may be a plus for you.
If you eventually want to dip your toes into the "anime side" for whatever reason then try out AC0 because the usual anime tropes may be imperceptible.
>I would have enjoyed the shit out of these as a kid
Ironically as a kid I had Heatseekers instead of Ace Combat, which is as "real" as it gets for an arcade aerial combat game, hence why I was jealous of those who did play AC in their childhood lol.

After a few years of consideration I have to say Zero or 7. 7 has the most polish out of any of the games and the soundtrack overall is basically a smorgasbord of kino but Zero has better highs in music, the story is actually fucking great and one of the few that nails character, message, vibe and presentation all in one, and the actual gameplay is just a refined version of Ace Combat's PS2 gameplay. Like I feel there's a good reason a fair share of Ace Combat memes stem from Zero.

the story was pretty neat showing the war from an outside perspective but i didn't feel there was much to say about the missions themselves, if there's a bunch of "you gotta read between the lines" stuff then that's kinda stupid. i like 5 being more direct in it's events even if all the dialogue is so fucking corny and dumb

Meh, I appreciate 4 for recontextualizing Mobius as some savior for the world as the Eruseans try to bring down the remains of Ulysses on everyone but Zero feels much more personal than Agnus Dei. Not only does it borrow its lyrics from the first game but the whole story dresses up Pixy as essentially your mirror, it perfectly contains not only the themes of the story but encapsulates the journey you went on and how you went from bringing death and destruction to ending it and how Pixy believes he's doing the same thing.

to be fair 4 starts in an F-4 which is absolutely a very fast missile that turns once a month and never went you want it to. i miss when the series could have stuff like that while late game F-22s and Su-37s could turn on a dime, instead of everything having high g turns and post stall maneuvers all the way down to the fucking A-10
>>
>>730457981

>>
>>730458391
Fair assessment. I just wish the curve of improvement was better in AC4, it genuinely felt like I had to wait until I got the F-22 in order to be the hero I wanted to be but at that point the game's pretty much ending and the challenges are kind of lessened because they don't scale neatly to match you.
>>
>>730458391
is here any real benefit to not having high mobility? should there be more planes that just go fast in a straight line just so we can appreciate the ones that can actually dogfight more? that'd be dumb as hell, having every plane be something you can actually use sounds way better on a gameplay front
>>
>>730457981
5 has critical gameplay flaws and the dialogue is terrible. 4 and Zero are both much better.
>>
>>730458607
what's a gameplay flaw in 5 then? it felt pretty good to me, at least once i got higher mobility planes
>>
>>730458558
NTA but it's completely fair if all you're asking for is a better balance. Kind of wish these games received more mods now that PCSX2 is so good, maybe rebalancing mods could be attempted.
>>
>>730458558
it works if the gameplay allows for it, but AC games heavily favor turn fighting and close engagement and not the kind of zoom and boom stuff that a phantom was at home with. still, i just want some variety and less silly press both triggers to turn 180 degrees stuff
>>
>>730458928
I've always kind of dreamed of a game that focused heavily on impossible maneuvers like the turn 180 degrees stuff, except it'd be stuff like rolling to the side like a Banshee in Halo and the like too so you can actually go all out with the anime bullshit. PW is only halfway there. Obviously I don't think AC should do that, but I'd definitely pay for a good clone that tries it.

standard controls literally ruin the game. AC7 is meant to played cockpit with an FOV mod on expert controls. Everything else is a vastly inferior experience
>>
>>730460107
AC7 default cockpit fov is a lot better than the ps2 games at least
>>
>>730426223
Don’t do this. Those faggot controls are why I dropped many arcade flight sims. AC having proper flight controls is partly why I like it.
>>
>>730429762
I really don't know what you expected. Ace Combat began as an arcade game.
>>
i thought it was cool in the games with cockpit view and COFFIN planes that the 'cockpit' view is just the normal floater first person view with a slight video filter on it, because the pilot normally sees a 360 degree view anyway thanks to the interface
>>
>>730429762
That's only cause they have slower turning and shit outside of AC2 and Air Combat.
The only game in this series that might be called a simulator is Air Combat 22, the fucking arcade machine. But even then it's still an arcade machine.
>>
Ace Combat 4 is kino of the highest degree

Do you think Ace Combat 8 will do anything with VR?
>>
>>730464075
I hope so, but I fear sony would moneyhat its exclusivity to their format.
>>
>>730464168
Well the good news is that Sony isn't moneyhatting anything VR anymore. They gave up on PSVR2 entirely. Capcom just came out and said no VR for RE9 because Sony's not paying for it.
Bad news is that Sony isn't moneyhatting it anymore. So Bamco might not even bother.
>>
>>730464262
Ah well. If it's on UE5, as they've said, someone could likely do that UE5VR mod thing without too much hassle.

It's the only way they can do it in countries in Japan because probably most of the people who would be interested don't have the space for VR at home.

I fucking loved this thing, and it really did feel like a car made by aircraft manufacturers. Your ears would almost pop when you closed the door because it was so air-tight, and I lived in the midwest, so it was great in winter since its engineered to be optimized at 0 degrees.
My mechanic specialized in SAAB's and he had a bunch of old ones on his lot that were cool as shit to go look at because they looked like they were made out of spare airplane parts. For as much shit as I like to give yuropoors, i like their planes.

What did they mean by this?
>>
>>730472419
The first plane trip I can remember taking was out of John Wayne airport in orange county, which has a big apartment building right at the end of the runway, and city ordinances mean they can't blast their engines over the city. So the takeoff is really short, and really steep, and it feels like you just barely miss the building. Then they blast the engines, rocket up, and turn off the engines, bleeding off height for speed to make a sharp u-turn to go over the river where it can begin climbing.
I also had a chance to land at kai tek before it was retired, and that landing goes right into the city, and you're watching buildings rushing up on every side, and the landing pattern is at about a 45 degree angle to the runway, so right before its time to touch down, the pilot has to dorifto the plane so its headed down the runway, and even if you landed safely, there was still a non-zero chance that the pilot over shot the landing just a little, and the plane rolls off the end of the runway to belly flop in the harbor.

For better or worse AC has never been a series to really tutorialize. Like I don't think in 6 or 7 you're ever told that you can do a PSM in certain plains until you do one by accident. You see planes do it in cutscenes, but its perfectly reasonable for anyone to assume that's because its a cut scene.

i don't think i've ever done a PSM, i assume it's something that just happens to other pilots

>>
>>730475080
When you're going high speed, pull the air break hard and pull the nose up the plane up. You'll know it works when the plane kind of lifts itself up the rest of the way, then you put the nose back down. Some of the planes will go all the way back around. If you have a laser weapon and are a bad enough dude, you can slice through multiple enemies. Shits pretty cash.
Also bump limit. RIP ace combat thread
