My theory is that once there are five Godhand, they get to leave the astral plane and manifest in realspace. At which point they have a grand strategy battle royale to determine who gets to define the next era.

Whoever survives that conflict goes on to become the leader of the Godhand until five more are gathered. Last time it was the newest member, Void, that emerged victorious. I further assume the other four are cast down into the astral depths somewhere or something and a new cycle starts up.

I have no theory on how long it's been going on by this point in the setting. And maybe I'm wrong and the old ones just willingly step aside for the next generation but that doesn't really feel in-character for the apparent nature of the Godhand (they're assholes)

My suggestion would be to actually read berserk all the way through so you can stop liking berserk and stop being a retard making off topic threads on newfaggot slop, as there is no person on earth who can be caught up on berserk and still enjoy it.

Everything up to and including the Eclipse is great but, and this is just me guessing, i think the story was supposed to end soon after. In chapter 83 we find out that literal God the Almighty was behind the, then, upcoming events. Griffith meets him in a vision. But the problem was that this chapter locks the story into a direction that left Miura very little wiggle room.

A writer can do that kind of foreshadowing when he has an outline for the rest of the story and only has to flesh it out, basically when it's 75% done. But Berserk moved insane numbers so ending the book that keeps the lights on would have been the right artistic decision but a bad financial decision. So #83 was removed from later prints and has never been brought up again.

That's why the main plot only occasionally comes up again and 90% of the events since the Eclipse have been filler.

The interesting part of Berserk is Guts, Band of the Hawk, Casca, Griffith, Demons, Skeleton Knight. That is Berserk and that is what people care about and that is the only reason why they keep adapting those chapters of the manga. Nobody gives a flying fuck about Guts and Friends roaming the world getting involved in completely unrelated dogshit introducing the 100th minor character that will be forgotten in the next chapter.

We've had like 50 chapters between every page of Skeleton Knight, Femto, Casca, Dragon Slayer, rape baby when that should be a clear line of continuation. Eclipse is over, here comes the Skeleton Knight who explains who the Demons really are and how to kill them, here comes Femto reminding Guts why he hates him, Casca is a blubbering mess but is making progress, hey Guts to stop the Demons you need to level up with Dragon Slayer gear, oh shit the rape baby is alive, but Guts don't forget that the Demons are still around and this is how we stop them.

There, this should be at most 2-3 arcs. Not 200 chapters.

I doubt the fuck out of it. Far as I'm concerned any hope of a true resolution, or rather continuation because the story was nowhere near done, ended when Miura died. Whoever decides to quickly wrap it up is just going to do all that elaborate setup a disservice.

>>730505715
So what's your problem with it anyway? If it's that it slowed down and will never resolve, you need to learn to appreciate the good things you get rather than lament over that which we didn't. If it's that it's too popular on reddit or some bullshit you can just go fuck yourself though.

How could the story have ended soon after the Eclipse when most of the volumes up to that point was just a really long flashback? People like the golden age so they get a bit confused methinks but all of it was just backstory. If you rushed the story after the Eclipse then Guts would need to go from fighting The Count straight to killing the Godhand or something which makes absolutely no sense with the way they'd been set up since volume 2.

This is the dual curse of liking longform stories. One they can go unfinished because the author dies and two people don't want to pay attention that long and want to rush it.

>>730506179
So it's the former then? I can respect those sour grapes a little at least. The slowdown and how things turned out was awfully disappointing.

>Is miuras protege living up to the hype?
It'd be fine if he continued on his own terms. Mori has some intense autism and thinks that including dialogue when it wasn't in Miura's notes is being "disrespectful to Miura's memory". Now we have pages after pages of barely any dialogue like it's some DBZ shonen or some shit.
>>
Why wasn't Guts' Rage ever ported to anything?

>>730506685
>If you rushed the story after the Eclipse then Guts would need to go from fighting The Count straight to killing the Godhand or something

Well, no. You could just focus on the Godhand instead of ignoring them and the post-eclipse events for hundreds of chapters. For the details you'd have to ask Miura. He did consider ending it and even talked about it with Kouji Mori but ultimately decided against it.

Glad for that then. Would have been a huge waste for anyone that actually liked his writing beyond golden age and dark angry man swing big sword zoooom

>>730507713
I asked you a question prior to that. To which you seemed to indicate that you were more in line with the former assumption rather than the latter one.

>>730508350
Guts is an antihero because he's psychologically scarred and does things like use children as bait for murderbugs, or hallucinate himself as a mad dog made of shadows decapitating his crazy girlfriend. Or Theresia and her father, whatever happened there.

Basically Guts is more of an antihero to himself than he is to others. He doesn't kill innocent people willy nilly but his self destructive tendencies and fixation on revenge leads him to forget what he still has left that's worth holding onto. So there's this constant struggle within him between hating himself and wanting to die, hating Griffith and wanting vengeance, and accepting that there are still things in the world worth protecting. Perhaps even forgiving himself in the process.

This issue played out even during the Golden Age after Gambino's death and finding a place to belong with the Band of the Hawk. And it was also playing out in the present with Guts deciding to forego chasing Griffith in order to help Casca and forging new friendships with Puck and the others. The VAST MAJORITY of people that read Berserk either ignore this or dismiss it as stupid and unnecessary. Because why have character development and a fleshed out story when you can just rush to the fucking end and kill the bad guy like the sort of ADHD asshole that has to play RPGs at 3x speed. But I digress. Whether you give a shit about any of the characters or anything not covered by the anime will determine how much you can enjoy this manga.
>>
>>730510695
>Glad for that then.
Or he could have finished Guts' story and then write a spin-off or a what-if interlude. Because that is basically what the rest of Berserk right now is. We're just waiting from the main story to continue.
>>
>>730510920
I don't like rushed shit, so that really, really doesn't interest me. In fact, it irritates me. It's a big reason why I don't often engage with the rest of this series... fanbase. My only regret is that the author lost steam and slowed down, but even then I wouldn't give up what I got for some gay little rushed out ending that betrayed his incredible worldbuilding. I'm not that short on attention span.
>>
>>730511087
>rushed out ending that betrayed his incredible worldbuilding
When a series is only world building it stops being a story and becomes a lore(history) book. And he could have had all the world building that his heart desires after wrapping up the main story. Miura could have written 5 Berserk' series' with the material he forced into Guts' story. In reality Miura was just a scatter brained writer who didn't even have a coherent outline for his story and instead made it up along the way.

If you say so. But I just cannot agree. Berserk is such a frustrating book to love. Releases slowed to an agonizing crawl, author died, and most of the people that claim to like it actually hate *most* of it. I guess you could say, the struggle is real!

>Never got the clue that he wanted to die
It's one of the themes with his character that gets revisited a lot. The way Guts fights often shows total disregard for himself, which is what caught Griffith's eye to begin with. Casca yells at him about it. Puck points it out, etc. It's pointed to a lot with him.

Part of the reason he does this is because he has immense self loathing. Starting with the deaths of his adoptive parents, and continuing on into blaming himself deep down for a lot of other things too. He rushes repeatedly into situations where he's just a hairs breadth from dying, only to fight his way out, over and over again.

Guts Rage is a fine side story. Has some jank but it's an okay action game for the time.
Millenium Falcon Hen is more polished and feels more substantial since it adapts stuff not seen in the anime (at the time) so it feels like a continuation. But i think it's a bit of a slog since everything feels slower becayse they obsessed with portraying the weight of the sword. That said, when it's kino, good lord it's kino.

When he was a kid, he mentally gave up a few times, only to survive by lashing out on pure instinct. Once when Gambino attacked him, and then right after that when he was injured and nearly preyed upon by a pack of wolves. Both of those times he tried to drop his sword only to find himself swinging it again.

During his time with the Hawks, he gets the reputation for always taking the most dangerous positions and fighting to exhaustion. And even beyond that, he wins a lot of fights against apostles by putting himself at great risk of death to get close enough to land the decisive blow. It's heroic, but it's also really really sad when you think about the full meaning behind it. Guts himself admits that he's only at peace when he's swinging his sword. He's got a lot of things weighing on him.

And then you add the whole Berserker armor thing on top of it later, and the way it interacts with his inner demons. But I'm running my mouth because I really like talking about Berserk but I rarely do.

definitely not. the only realistic way the idea of evil could have been defeated is if Griffith had a redemption arc and ended up switching sides again in the end, which would have taken a long time to properly build up to. I think the idea of evil got retconned exactly because new, more interesting ideas kept piling up, and Miura didn't want people to connect everything with the IoE.

Stop saying this. Miura has no single protege. Mori is a friend from college who basically acts as executive producer. The manga is being drawn by Miura's assistants as loosely directed by Mori. This isn't remotely close to Toyotaro who was Toriyama's protege for Dragon Ball.

Skull knight killed them. He targeted Void in the Eclipse. There would be little point in doing so if Void would die in 200 years anyway. Also, if skull knight could just outlive the Godhand, he wouldn't need to hunt them down for his revenge.
>>
The idea that the Skull Knight killed every single one of the previous Godhand EXCEPT for the one that he had personal beef with and wanted dead the most is both funny and sad.

>>

Absolutely nowhere. But he was the only "main character" we know of that was active back then so I guess it's best to assume old Gaiseric just flipped around and stabbed all of them in the face GG no re
>>
>>730521407

Or maybe they just randomly slipped, fell and broke their necks, who knows lmao?
>>
>>730521407
We've gotten a lot of hints on the Skull Knight's identity. Starting with the story Judeau tells us in the Tower of Rebirth, and then Slan referring to him as your majesty, and Flora mentioning some stuff, and I think most recently the flashback that OP's image is from. All signs point to him being King Gaiseric. But no one knows the full story
>>
>>730522006
