It's a fact that Timmy has the most fun.

in my experience timmy types are most likely to not have fun and the most likely to bitch up a storm if they get shut out whereas tryhard spike will say gg go next and johnny will instantly try to lab countermeasures to whatever stopped him from running his gimmick

i've seen it in card games, fighting games, fucking dark souls. they're the guy who says
>I could play like that, but it's not FUN
as they button mash against the ai in and ragequit the game when they get countered again and again

lol Timmies have two moods: smug faggot who got lucky nobody had a counter for his 10/10 beatstick or seething retard who will call you a tryhard for trying to interact with anything in the table.

Is there another way where i can play magic online?

why are 2 of these gamers black boarder cards
>>
>>730540548
Almost as if every entrenched MtG player knew from the outset that a huge beatstick didn't matter without evasion or haste. It's a Timmy card that requires multiple pieces to win on the spot. Craterhoof Behemoth is a much better card and barely sees constructed play.
>>
>>730541145
they sell better because retards can run them in edh decks and the integrity of the mtg setting no longer matters at all
>>
>>730539640
Isn't Spike basically just an auto-win if it hits the field?

I'm sure there's some sort of instant win combo you can do with that effect

Whats better for a controll deck Dimir or Azorios?
I switched over from ygo and these two look the most like a ygo deck where you have some omninegates and target destroy like in ygo and or or two big boss monsters
How long would it take to build something like this in Arena most of the good cards are locked behind packs and the game is really stingy with how it gives them to you
>>

Swiftfoot Boots. It's as if people actively make the conscious decision to be retarded.
>>
>>730541145
because JOTC is ran by a bunch of retards and said "no see they have black borders but that doesn't mean they're legal. we're just getting rid of the silver border cause it's ugly ew, we replaced it with this acorn-shaped stamp at the bottom isn't that better? (btw some of them dont' have that they're actually legal.)"
i'm pretty sure the vast majority of the legal ones were eventually banned everywhere outside of memelander anyway because people were just that fucking mad about the entire idea. but then they started selling universes beyond sets that are printed in standard so it's all a moot point anyway, fuck this game I hate it so much

probably spike desu. spikes are the type to go overdo everything and they are bad at restraining themselves. in hunter gatherer times they would be the first to charge in, 1v1 a boar and then eat the whole thing, but in real life they just eat mcdonald, sperg out in mtg and get fat

>>
>>730542247
Azorius is better for a reactive deck that holds their mana up for counterspells or boardwipes until the other guy is out of gas and then dropping a game ending finisher
Dimir is more proactive and lends itself to putting down an early/midgame threat and then using removal and countermagic to keep the way clear for you to kill them with it.

It's not that craterhoof needs no setup. It requires other creatures to be an OHKO, but those creatures are typically mana dorks or low cost creatures that have been played previously that don't necessitate immediate premium removal spells. Craterhoof's ETB trigger doesn't go away upon removal either, so all those mana dorks that get +X/+X AND trample are still around. Compare this to the retard trying to put multiple pieces of protection onto a 1/7 that dies to removal without impacting the board immediately.

>mention to guy operating a lgs that mtg cards feel like they are becoming outrageously priced for cardboard and its harder to play the hobby because of it.
>his rebuttal was that tariffs and inflation are causing the wotc to charge more
Is this truthful or is he spewing bullshit?
Im not an expert on economic or logistical chains, but i cant imagine the cards themselves became that much more to manufacture.
I remember years ago a prerelease event was $20 per and now the cheapest in the area is $35 with most being $40-45.
>>
>>730551675
tarrifs hurt, but most of the price increases are a combination of the terrible profit margin on game stores selling product, and because wizards is the only profitable part of hasbro, so they need to increase their profit margins to keep the business afloat
>>
>>730551675
>Is this truthful or is he spewing bullshit?

>>
>>730551675
a little of A a little of B.
wotc card production is in china so tariffs do hit them, but they are also raising the price to cover licensing fees and as soon as the Tariffs drop the price sure as hell wont
>>
>>730551346
Kinda wish Wizards just sold alternate card arts of sets that actually fit into the lore instead. Like, that card is Elspeth and Mechagodzilla is Crystalline Giant. That's fine. But when they decide actually the Vocaloid universe is canonical and here's Jace, the Mind Sculptor in a magical duel with Kagamine Rin then it's not so fun anymore.
>>
>>730551675
Tariffs and inflation drive prices up for sure, but from the outside who knows how much is that and how much is companies ratcheting the price up because they can.
Doesn't help that game shops are generally running on razor thin profit margins and simply can't afford to offer product at prices competitive with somewhere like Amazon.

Maybe half-bullshit. Tabletop game manufacturers were definitely hit hard by tariffs and the shenanigans surrounding them (seriously, it's ridiculous that there were few exemptions for already produced goods), but this would be a case of Hasbro and WotC raising the price of MTG to cover the rest of their products suffering (as MTG itself is a product that's much more feasible to bring its production over to the states if need be), and it's certainly questionable how much this might actually be the case and how much of it is just using it as cover.

They generally don't care about fun outside of winning. The ones who do have fun do so at the expense of Timmys and Johnnys. Will sometimes become Johnnys themselves if a game's meta truly grows stale or boring, seeking our Johnny groups to ease into more casual play.
Digital TCGs have, of course, destroyed Timmys and Johnnys across the hobby, which in turn has adversely affected tabletop play as well as games often try to emulate DTCGs chasing after success that the cardboard medium can't easily deliver. At this point Timmys are a dying breed.

Honestly I don't even get the point. Women aren't interested in playing a 30-year old card game dominated by nerdy adult men. They do shit like picrel, which to me is intended for the female gaze and they de-sexualize female characters every chance they get.

Yeah...I know, I had a guy who's wife played 40k regularly with us. Played Orks and routinely called them her rambunctious boys, which is coincidentally what she called her sons. Nice lady, all things considered.

Partly. Chinese printers (literally) import fee/tariffs, but also it's not harder to play the hobby because you can literally get a laser printer and print off cards to put in front of $.50 bulk commons from your local store and just play that way at home.

maybe the gay nerds are into this kind of shit?
they can try cosplaying it

oracle text would errata the second sentence to 'if only one card of B.F.M. is in play, sacrifice it.' or something like that if it were actually something played outside of unsets.

actually, funnily enough, i saw a pod of two good-looking twenty-something couples playing a few weeks ago. they actually sounded pretty engaged, too. it was a little eerie.

Timmy feels special casting a 4 cost creature to "cheat out" a 5 cost creature for 4, meaning they overpaid by 8 for a chance to put it out at instant speed for a combat trick/pseudo haste next turn by putting it out at the end of the previous player's turn.

By power gamer they meant powerful creatures, spells, or effects. The most impact with the minimal amount of really cool cards.

more like overtly retarded, I'm still jerking just as much, only that it's over hunky men abs and extremely fuckable dinosaurs instead of half naked chicks.
also the art quality plummeted, i'm pretty sure that this social bullshit is an excuse to hire banana priced artists. this matches up to hasbro getting killer profit out of brand worship: the gathering
>>
I'm still mad they keep printing "people" jund legendaries. I want big stompy and decks with big stompy. Naya is gay and Temur is fun but also gay.
>>
>>730565557
The difference is that Timmy and Johnny have some overlap in that they've got this cool card/combo and want to see it go off. Spike is the WAACfag that just takes whatever will lead to the highest chance of a win during the current ruleset of the game. Old 40k this would be the person who shows up with Taudar all in grey, unpainted models or Necron flying circus or Tau double (sometimes triple) Riptide Farsight crisis suit spam. It's very effective, but it's not going to make a lot of friends if you just play casually every weekend.

It should also be noted that by Rosewater's article, Power Game is a Timmy Subtype, probably the most stereotypical one.
>One of the stereotypes of Timmy is that he (or she; for the rest of this column just add “or she” whenever you see “he”) loves playing big creatures and big spells as he smashes his way to victory (my last column on Timmy really reinforced this image). This isn't true for all Timmies, but it is true for this group. The Power Gamer equates power with fun. He enjoys the vicarious thrill of dominating the game. For Power Gamer Timmy, Magic is about seeing how much he can do. How big a creature can he play? How much damage can he do in a single turn? How much can he win by?
When I first got into 40k, I got a Necron army for the fantasy of the relentless march of soulless reviving automatons automatons supported by giant laser pyramids. Necrons getting turned into Tomb Kings in Space made me want to play them less, even if the concept is still possible. I figure that's a Timmy behavior, or maybe a Vorthos Timmy?
>>
>>730566537
Vorthos-Timmy works for that mental image of Necrons probably, yeah. I figure a true blue Timmy stereotype would especially love playing Custodes, Knights, or a monster army of some kind. Maybe Fury of the Ancients in 30k if Contemptor Dreadnought spam wasn't complete bullshit.

>>
>>730541145
border colors can be seen when viewed from the side, i.e. silver bordered cards are notably lighter colored than black border cards when looking at the profile of a deck. this caused particular issues in draft and sealed format where you open silver-bordered cards from packs and make decks using those cards and generic basic lands, which still have regular black borders. tournaments at every sanctioned level were required to sleeve sealed and draft decks in opaque sleeves because otherwise it was trivial for people to see the order of lands vs cards out of a pack in both players decks. due to this, about ten years back wizards decided to make all cards uniformly black bordered.

>>
>>730570628
Its more that half of the people who everyone thinks are spikes are actually timmies. LSV has a pet card and forces it as hard as he can in every deck, people just think its 'spike' because his pet card is blue instant draw 2 and not a 7 mana 9/9.
>>
>>730571089
>>730570628
Everyone likes winning. Timmy isn't inherently a retard that is incapable of outplaying his friendgroup or making a good deck and Spike isn't inherently good at the game despite netdecking.

All i really care about from them are Transformers figures and they are top notch lately with plenty of old figures that never had a got figure getting one
Are they really struggling?
