They're going to reveal that Jenova is actually Ultimecia.
>>
The entire story of FF7 is now about Rinoa, who is Ultimecia, spreading a STD known as 'Jenova Cells'.
>>
>>730548942
The entire remake trilogy will be forgotten after a month when it's finally done, doomed to only be discussed by the obsessive nohopers who cling to this IP due to an unhealthy attachment to the characters. The world will move on but this dwindling group of autistic balding millenials will still insist the trilogy was a phenomenal success and continue discussing it like the shit movie that came out 20 years ago that nobody but them cares about.

tldr: The OG will continue to be a classic, the remake trilogy will be tossed on the garbage pile like all other compilation trash.
>>
But Rinoa isnt Ultimecia.

Shinra’s scientists, Hollander and Hojo, viewed Gillian and Lucrecia merely as incubators. They were terribly wrong. The women were not just carriers; they were the only ones capable of truly stabilizing the alien entity.

Gillian Hewley was injected directly with Jenova cells. The expectation, based on later experiments, would be rapid mutation or madness. Instead, Gillian remained physically stable. She lived a normal life in Banora for years. Her physiology adapted to the alien intrusion so perfectly that her own cells ("G-Cells") became a sought-after commodity. The horror only began when they tried to transfer her modified power to others. Genesis, receiving her cells secondary, rotted alive. Angeal, born naturally, eventually succumbed to mutation. But Gillian herself? She didn't degrade. She only died because she chose to end her own life to stop Hollander’s madness.

Lucrecia Crescent is an even more profound example. Injected during pregnancy for Project S, her fetus (Sephiroth) absorbed the brute force of the adaptation, becoming the "perfect" hybrid. But the residual effect on Lucrecia was staggering. The cells did not kill her; they rendered her incapable of death. She became biologically immortal. The trauma of losing her son, combined with the guilt of what she had done to him (and to Vincent Valentine), caused her to have a mental breakdown. Since she couldn't kill herself, she fled to a remote cave (the Waterfall Cave) and encased herself inside a giant Mako crystal to isolate herself from the world. Her body locked in a state of permanent stasis within the cave. Forever tormented by guilt and recurring visions of the horrors her son commits.

In both cases, the adult female physiology did not reject the alien entity, nor did it violently mutate. Instead, it integrated the power, granting stability and, in Lucrecia's case, eternal life. They became vessels of immense, dormant power, burdened by an inability to die naturally.
>>
>>730551705
If Gillian and Lucrecia are essentially proto-Sorceresses, we must then look at the source of their power. In FF8, the ultimate expression of Sorceress power is Ultimecia, a being from the distant future obsessed with "Time Compression." She seeks to compress all of existence into a single singularity where only she exists—a total unification of all time, space, and consciousness.

In FF7, the driving instinct of Jenova cells is the Reunion. No matter how far apart the cells are spread, they possess a psychokinetic desire to recombine, to become a single whole again. Sephiroth, acting as Jenova's avatar, attempts to facilitate this by wounding the planet and forcing all Lifestream (consciousness) to merge with him at the Northern Crater.

The parallels are too strong to ignore:
The Vessel: In both universes, the female physiology is the only stable carrier for raw cosmic power, resulting in burdened immortality.
The Source: Jenova is a "calamity from the skies" that travels on meteors. The Sorceress power originates from Hyne, a creator god who shed his "skin" and fled the world, and FF8 strongly associates magic with the moon and space (the Lunar Cry).
The Goal: The ultimate drive of both entities is a horrific form of singularity. Jenova seeks the Reunion of cells; Ultimecia seeks the compression of time. Both are attempts to reverse fragmentation and become an all-encompassing godhead.
It is highly probable that Jenova is not just a random space alien. The evidence suggests that Jenova is akin to the "skin of Hyne"—a fragmented, discard piece of a higher cosmic entity that travels between worlds, parasitically infecting them.

I believe.

If we accept this crazy theory that Final Fantasy VII (Jenova) and Final Fantasy VIII (Sorceresses) are linked, then the visual evidence found in the Final Fantasy VII Remake serves as a hint.

The image of Shinra's proposed "Neo-Midgar" is a jarring departure from the diesel-punk aesthetic of the rest of FF7. It features pristine white curves, anti-gravity suspension, and a circular hub-and-spoke design. To any veteran fan, this is not just a futuristic city; it is a Garden.

In Final Fantasy VIII, the Gardens (Balamb, Galbadia, Trabia) were not just schools. They were mobile shelters built by the ancient Centra civilization to survive a global catastrophe. They were "Arks." In Final Fantasy VII, Shinra seeks the Promised Land because they know Midgar is dying. Their solution, seen in this image, is to build a mobile, self-sustaining city. By designing Neo-Midgar to look exactly like a Garden, the developers are visually implying that Shinra is attempting to rediscover the same ancient "survival technology" that existed in FF8. They are trying to build an Ark to escape a dying planet, just as the Centra in FF8 did.

Not to mention the parallels between FF7 Cetra, and FF8 Centra.

One of the most subtle yet profound shifts in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project is the rebranding of SOLDIER's degradation. In the original 1997 narrative, degradation was largely viewed as a biological horror—mutating into a monster or physically rotting away (as seen with Genesis in Crisis Core). However, Remake and especially Rebirth have pivoted the focus toward psychological erosion and memory loss.

This shift is not accidental. When scrutinized against the wider Final Fantasy mythology, this new emphasis on "losing oneself to power" creates a direct, undeniable parallel to the Guardian Force (GF) mechanics of Final Fantasy VIII. It suggests that the developers are rewriting the rules of Mako to mirror the tragic trade-off of the GFs: Power comes at the cost of your past.

In the Crisis Core era, the horror of being a failed SOLDIER was physical. Genesis and Angeal had wings, their skin cracked, and their bodies failed. It was a body horror story.
In Rebirth, the narrative lens shifts to the mind. The "Black Robed Men" are no longer just failed clones; they are presented as empty husks, men who have had their egos and memories scooped out by the alien cells inside them. The tragedy of characters like Roche isn't that their arms fall off, it’s that they forget who they are. They become hollowed-out vessels. This specific type of degradation, the erasure of the "Self" to make room for the "Power", is a mechanic we have seen before, but not in Midgar.

In Final Fantasy VIII, the central twist is that Squall and his party all grew up together at Edea’s Orphanage but forgot their childhoods. The culprit was the Guardian Forces (GFs). The lore stated that GFs literally "made space" in the user's brain to house their power, overwriting long-term memories in the process.
The new character Roche serves as the perfect bridge between these two concepts. His arc in Rebirth mimics the decline of a GF user.

Another weird addition to the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is the evolution of military technology. While the original game kept swords and guns largely separate (with the exception of Barret’s arm), the Remake and Rebirth have quietly introduced a new class of weaponry that appears to be the direct technological ancestor of the Gunblade.

A crucial detail in Final Fantasy VIII lore is that the Gunblade is incredibly difficult to use. It is not a standard-issue weapon for the Galbadian army; it requires years of training, which is why only elite specialists (like Squall and Seifer) wield them. The Remake trilogy mirrors this rarity perfectly.
Standard Infantry: Shinra troopers still use standard machine guns or stun batons.
The Elite: Only the absolute apex of the hierarchy—Rufus (the Vice President), Weiss (the Immaculate), and Nero (the Sable)—use complex gun-blade hybrids.
The Implication: This suggests that during the FF7 era, "Gunblade" technology is currently in its experimental phase. It is too complex, expensive, and dangerous for the average grunt. It is a status symbol reserved for those with the skill (or mako-enhanced reflexes) to handle the recoil and complexity.

In the INTERmission DLC, the Deepground soldiers (specifically Weiss) wield weapons that are essentially over-engineered Gunblades. Weiss uses a pair of "Gun-Katanas" (Rakshasa). Weiss's weapons look like the bulky, industrial ancestors of Seifer’s Hyperion or Squall’s Revolver. You could say that the Gunblade began as the massive, unwieldy hybrid weapons of Deepground before being refined into the elegant, standardized models seen in FF8.

By retrofitting Final Fantasy VII with these hybrid weapons, the developers are telling a silent history of arms manufacturing. They are showing us that the concept of the Gunblade didn't appear out of nowhere in FF8. It was born in the labs of Shinra, tested by the Vice President, and perfected by the Deepground elites.

The biggest issue with remake isn't even that it's not a remake. That did annoy a lot of OG fans, but what really sucks is them refusing to commit to the change. It's either you want to make a faithful remake or you want to make this a real sequel after the time shenanigans fully came to its reveal at the end of part 1. Instead, we're basically doing remake, but with random changes sprinkled throughout the game, and each part ending in this massive blowout of time shenanigans, all with a Sephiroth final boss each time. Just fucking pick one. The change was already done, so if this is not the same story, how about at least giving us completely new areas or scenarios that don't mirror the original (with a time interference twist)? Do the butterfly effect thing and have the entire story shift differently. That would at least keep most OG fans interested, since this would open up room for different allies joining the party and more.

I mean... seriously.. Is anyone even looking forward seeing Sephiroth appear at the ending point of part 3 and it just be another cosmos/lifestream-like fight again?
>>
>>730557554
Hollander was a pragmatist and he wasn't looking to create a godlike being. He wanted a reproducible soldier. He likely used a different method of integration (possibly diluted or modified to ensure stability) so that Gillian would survive to produce "G-Cells." She was a carrier of the trait, not the embodiment of it. Her biology was enhanced, but not overwritten.

Hojo was a purist. He injected high concentrations of pure Jenova cells directly into Lucrecia while she was carrying Sephiroth. His goal was total hybridization. The sheer volume and potency of the alien cells flooded Lucrecia’s system, rewriting her biology so completely that her cells began to regenerate faster than they could die. She became less human and more "Jenova."

This is why after Shinra took baby Sephiroth and she was overcome with guilt and attempted suicide multiple times, the Jenova cells inside her pretty much would not let her die. They healed every wound and eventually forced her body into a protective stasis (the crystal) to keep her alive against her will. She is a prisoner of her own immortality. Meanwhile with Gillian when the guilt of Project G became too much and she committed suicide (or allowed herself to be killed) to stop Hollander from using her blood, the fact that she could die proves that her cells were still fundamentally human. She possessed the power of Jenova, but not its eternal life.

i'm just going to drop the point here that Jenova is the real villain of FF7 and the best JRPG villain of all time. Kefka is second. Well Sephiroth gonna certainly be there at the end once again, but the real final boss gonna probably be Cloud himself who i suspect to be the one alterating the past using black and white materias. I'm sure the ultimate fight will be Cloud fighting another version of himself in his mind or in another dimension.

Now they have expanded other part of the story with deep ground but I don't understand how they are planing to make them relevant in the 3rd part. The 3rd part is going to be a mess for that reason, and we gonna have a lot of DLC which gonna be weird.

I found the whole LOVELESS thing very telling.

For those of us who played Crisis Core, we remember LOVELESS as an abstract, often nonsensical poem that Genesis quoted endlessly. It was originally interpreted as a tragedy about three friends (representing Genesis, Sephiroth, and Angeal) and their roles in the "War of the Beasts."

However, Rebirth completely transforms it. The play we see isn't just a generic fantasy story; if you look closely at the archetypes, the music, and the cinematography, it appears to be a nearly beat-for-beat recreation of the romance between Squall and Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII.

First is the shift from "War Story" to "Love Story". The Crisis Core version focused on the "Prisoner", the "Hero", and "Wanderer" as brothers-in-arms. In Rebirth, the story is retooled into a classic romance between a Knight and a Princess with magical powers.
Rosa (The Princess) is depicted as a woman with a connection to the "Goddess," feared for her power and imprisoned by a tyrant (Varvados). This mirrors Rinoa Heartilly’s arc almost perfectly—a woman who discovers she is a Sorceress and is subsequently locked away (in the Sorceress Memorial/Adel’s Tomb) because the world fears her.
Alphreid (The Hero) played by Cloud takes on the role of the wandering swordsman who swears to protect her. This is the exact dynamic of the "Sorceress’s Knight" that is central to FF8.

Second is the "No Promises to Keep" vs. "Eyes on Me". Musically, the centerpiece of the play serves the exact same narrative function as FF8’s main theme.
Eyes on Me (FF8): A ballad sung by a woman (Julia, Rinoa's mother) about waiting for a soldier (Laguna, Squall's father) to return from the battlefield.
No Promises to Keep (Rebirth): A ballad sung by a woman (Rosa, played Aerith) about… waiting for a soldier to return.
The lyrics in Rebirth ("Till the day we meet again") echo the sentiment of Eyes on Me ("If you come here, you'll find me").

This is what gets me. I wasn't crazy about the timeline fuckery stuff, but it was a hook, it was something different, and I was going expecting something different. But to drop it the very next game and pretend like you were being faithful the whole time is just cowardly. Have the balls to stick to your own premise

No, you don't get points for being more faithful this time, you haven't earned the right to be faithful, so at least do something with you set up.

Honestly, after this it feels like no matter what they do for pt 3, it will feel out of place and unearned either changing everything or being faithful while trying to tie in Advent Children or something, because that's apparently Kitase's mission for it.
>>
>>730559638
Both songs are used as the catalyst to force the emotionally stunted protagonist to finally admit they have feelings for the heroine.

Thirdly is the "Space Date" cinematography. This is the "smoking gun" for me. During the finale of the play, the VR stage dissolves, and Cloud and Aerith are lifted into a starry void. They spend the final moments of the play drifting through a cosmos of stars and galaxies. The visual composition here is undeniable: it looks exactly like the famous "Ragnarok" scene in FF8, where Squall and Rinoa drift in space looking at the planet. It feels like the developers wanted to give Cloud and Aerith their own version of that iconic moment, using the VR setting as a workaround to make it happen.

Finally the "Drifting" ending, which is the the canon ending of the play. It sees Alphreid and Rosa separated, with Alphreid drifting away into the void while promising to return. This imagery mirrors the ending cinematic of FF8, where Squall is lost in the "Time Compression," drifting through nothingness trying to find his way back to the Promised Land. Yes, FF7 and FF8 call both important meeting places as the "Promised Land", and even the imagery is the same the place being a field of flowers.

Honestly, and I can't believe I'm saying this
But it's true, Persona, Xenoblade, and Fire Emblem have effectively taken Final Fantasy's place as the premiere JRPGs pretty much everywhere, with only JP caring enough about Dragon Quest to keep it in the conversation.

And it's not even anything special they did. They just remained themselves and actually released games in that time. Say what you will about Persona 3-5, Xenoblade 1,2, and 3, and FE Three Houses, but they kept their respective franchises alive and relevant by simply being part of the conversation, for good or bad reasons.

They are the faces of modern JRPGs.

SE really doesn't have that right now. They games they have that are most relevant to younger generations are Nier Automata, Final Fantasy XIV, and Kingdom Hearts, and considering only one of those is active is fucking them over.

It didn't need to be like this. Final Fantasy has a flavor that is its own that could still reach younger generations, XIV is proof of that, but they keep fucking up at every turn. XVI was chasing big western money by copying the trend of western fantasy while forgetting its roots as Final Fantasy, and suffered because of it.

I do believe they can make it relvant again, but SE isn't in the right headspace right now to do it, at least as far as I can see. Maybe what they need is some new blood to bring new life into the franchise for XVII, frankly they don't have a lot of other options left

Literally just hair and no brain or other wires. just looks like a lady in a weird suit. no meat no horror no nothing

This music is so much lamer than the Playstation's it's unreal

That'd mean a lot more if Crisis Core didn't already confirm it was organic
I understand where you're coming from anon, but this battle was lost a long time ago

I thought she was Yuna?

There is no art direction. It's just random assets thrown together if it's not the main cast or a set piece
Reminder they made a random asset from a store in China a boss in 15
You walk around dressed like a gay stripper but everyone else is just dressed normally because they're generic models bought from asset packages

SE is desperate enough to extend it, but the what the fuck can they even do to extend it? Make Advent Children playable?

I always assumed what you see in the tank wasn't Jenova's real form. It was just some Cetra woman Jenova was halfway finished copying when the other Cetra froze it or whatever. Like when they catch a half-formed Bennings-Thing in the movie.
>>
>>730568396
They will fucking stretch the shit out of the original plot as much as possible to continue milking this sub-franchise they're creating. Don't forget they also have that FF7 Fortnite clone in the works that'll be more canon than that KH orchestral tour.

I tolerate the fate ghosts but trying to link two games over something so stupid is just obnoxious.
>>
I’m just scared for the next game SE will fuck up next. It’s going to be either Xenogears or FFX
>>
>>730566690
Jenova is all about mimicry so I wouldn't look too hard into her appearance between games.
>>
>>730548942
They are gonna reveal the game being 200 GB

>if Crisis Core didn't already confirm it was organic
Life pro tip: there’s no such thing as the “extended universe”, none of that shit is real and didn’t happen, only the original game is canon
>>

To be fair, you can look at the 90s concept art and it's clearly supposed to be hair. Bundles of wire giving the illusion of hair is 100x cooler though and desu a little too smart for the people who made the games.

>another 40 hour game with 20 of those hours just cutscenes
Even worse is when 10 of those cutscene hours are useless filler.

What the fuck is the giant heart she/it/whatever is standing on with all the tubes connected to its body? Was that some kind of life support thing Shinra attached or was it part of the original creature?
>>
Jenova should've been the final boss of part 1.
>>
>>730560139
Did you play Rebirth? It's full of alternate timeline bullshit and the time jannies appear again with more explanation as to why some of them act differently than others.
>>
>>730569718
nta but I think the alternate timeline thing is bs.
it seems more likely it's lifestream dream "unable to differentiate between what reality is/what happened vs what we imagine/dream" stuff. Not too different than Cloud imagining things being different with him taking the place of Zack.
>>
>>730569497
That was part of her since she's an alien.
>>
>>730568461
Well fucking obviously, duh. Did anybody think the shapeshifting alien just happened to look like a human?

who was this made for? newfags who never played the original got confused, oldfags hate the time jannies
>>
>>730560580
No, Genesis was created specifically so Gackt could be in the game
>>
>>730569718
Functionally jackshit changed anon. The major events of FFVII still played out like they did in original just worse. To say nothing about everything they with Aerith and her "death", which they can't even comit to either.
>>
>>730568536
Did you fucking miss how SE already made a Fortnite clone with FFVII and it flopping horribly?
>>
>>730548942
wait jenova is also tifa? just how many tifas are there?

Yeah, I think we all understood the reference
>>
>>730571545
Nah this is a different one, it's supposed to succeed because now it's for PC instead of phones.
>>
>>730571642
And it's still going to flop. SE might want to TRY to extend FFVII for whatever its worth, but it won't and can't work. Especially with the "remake" facing dimishing returns as is
