As the 2010's dragged on the barrier for entry into independent development dropped lower and lower and more opportunistic money grabbers (women, faggots, jews, etc.) saw dollar signs and tried to take a piece of a pie that was already getting pretty thin. Now we're here. Same pattern that always plays out, it happened before with "Lovecraftian" media, Slasher flicks, Monster of the week B-Movies, etc. - and it's been actively happening again with Analog and Digital horror as a whole. Many of these games and properties will only be remembered years later by people who watched other people play them when they were in Elementary School - and some of them may be kept alive solely by pornographers. It's bleak.
