What am I in for? Any beginner tips for a first timer?
sex with crag hack
>>730575696peak uncslop
>>730575696Does this game have a lot of variety in different playstyles and strategies? Is it a deep game with tons of variety?
>>730575696You're in for a broken busted bullshit game. Don't touch multiplayer
>>730575696Good game
>>730575696Will I, a zoomer, be filtered by the graphics and controls? The good version is the one on GOG right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0ObS62Js-4pure quina
>>730575696You need more than 1 hero to win most mapsEvery castle has at least 1 subpar unit that's not worth buyingMight heroes are generally better than magic heroesIf you're a noob just play on the easiest difficulty setting
>>730576589Depends. What kind of older games have you played before? Are you familiar with older games? Homm3 is pretty straight forward to control and the artstyle more than makes up for the graphics. So I don't think you'll get filtered?
>>730575696fill empty slots with your army with stacks of one cheap creature and use them for distraction/shielding shooters/attacking enemy stacks to bait retaliation.expert air magic gets you mass haste. expert earth gets you mass slow. these are your friends.>>730575824it has SOME variety of playstyles. every game doesn't have to be exactly the same. the "Horn of the Abyss" fan mod does a lot of balancing to make joke skills like Eagle Eye and First Aid much more useful
>>730576754The oldest game I have played must be dino crisis
>>730576750>need more than 1 heroDamn I just like dumping all my units into one hero. I'm not super familar with this game. I've only played like several hours in Homm3 and a shit ton of hours in Homm2. Managing two heroes and their units is stressful. I already get stressed out over the stupid 2 tier upgrades for each unit.
>>730576589I don't know what broccolipeople consider to be filters but the controls are just point and click, no keyboard weirdness. Graphics are of its time, I guess, but the artstyle is good enough that it doesn't feel like a problem.
>>730576803Then you will love hand-drawn graphics, the music and the atmosphere.
>>730576836>>730576854also i tried the demo for the newest game in the franchise and it was fun af
>>730576884Needs some more polish, but the devs are on the right track.
>>730576803Then I don't think you'll have too much trouble. If you can tolerate tank controls then you're already better than most zoomers. I'm a zoomer but I mostly only play old games and have an almost immunity towards "outdated controls" and I don't give a shit about graphics but I am picky when it comes to good artstyles in games. I think Homm3 is beautiful. Just like the 3D Might and magic games.
>>730576936I tried Gothic 1 but actually got filtered because that game doesn't use mouse only keyboard
>>730575824Kinda. Its mostly about stacking ultimate units and getting the good artifacts before everyone else, what gets you to that point the fastest is being good at winning battles efficiently until end game. That's why the undead guys are so dominant in the base game, you can turn losses from sloppy fights into skeles and its like you never played like a shitter at all. So always play undead guys.
>>730576803>>730576589You can also get a HD fan patch to make the game look prettier and sharper if it bothers you.
>>730575696No. You also sould learn the hard and fun way.Damn, I have to play homm3 again now, thanks man
>>730575696ai is utter shit. Like, retardedly level of shit. That said, it's fun for a few weeks and with the WOG mode I was able to give the AI a better chanceIt is natural to want to mate with Octavia I'm not going to give tips mostly because outside of the stnadard shit of 'more thann one hero, one hero to fight with a big army, the other to capoture resources, etc', nopthing is going to get missed for a new playerExcept, the tier lists are utterly slop designed on 'human vs human' so while shit like Inferno is underpowered, if you're not shit at the game, it's fine against ai
>>730576821I think heroes generally come in three categories, main, secondary and scouts. For most maps you just have one main with all of your units just like you're used to playing.Secondaries are used if the map is really large, XL or bigger in HOTA. It's simply more efficient to split your army but secondary heroes are optional.Scouts you give them 1 unit that's as fast as possible and they exist to pick up unguarded shit, flag mines, uncover the map, gather money at the wheel etc. They're also used to hero chain reinforcements from your castle to main hero before you get town portal. And you want as many scouts as possible, typical game will have 1 main and 7 scouts. If you want to win at 200% minimum hero count is 8 for most maps unless it's a challenge map, very small map, or map with some limitations.
>>730576956I've played Gothic 1. I didn't mind the controls but they take some getting used to. Gothic 1's biggest problem when it comes to the controls is fighting large groups of enemies and the weird stun locking shit that enemies love to do to you. The game is miserable whenever you have to fight more than 1 enemy. Gothic 2 is a lot easier and better to get into and control. So maybe give that one a try instead. Gothic 2 is an improvement over Gothic 1 in almost every department imo. Especially with the controls. Also Gothic 2 allows high resolutions for a nicer sharper look. I personally love Gothic 2 way more. Only problem is that Gothic 2's expansion (Night of the Raven) makes the game so much more tedious and enemies more spongey but it adds a kick ass island so you'll still want to play with it. It's not even harder, just more of a slog at points.
So uh how do we feel about Homm4? Is it worth it if you enjoyed Homm 2 and 3?
>>730575696Don't divide stacks.Absolutely retarded nigger behavior.
>>730577402yes, but while 2 and 3 are similar 4 plays completely different
>>730577478Why?
>>730575696Get the Horn of the Abyss fan expansion, its fucking good
>>730576836>>730576854>>730577005Is the game online or vs bots?
>>730576956>that game doesn't use mouseIt does you've been lied to
>>730575696>What am I in for?A red pill on the jews
>>730577568Both. You fight against the AI in the campaign and scenario modes. There is multiplayer but I have zero idea if anyone is still playing it
>>730577603NTA but I think I remember mouse look being fucking awful so I don't think I used it ever. I remember clearly being able to play the game 1 handed. Gothic 2 has mouse look that was actually good to use.
>>730575696campaign is okay, for multi you need hota and learn game modes like jebus cross and duel
>>730577402I'm so torn on this one. It's really rough and inferior to Homm3 but damn I love the story and love that you can have heroes be actual units in the game. I wish homm3 allowed heroes to act as units. You can literally become a 1 man army in this game (or at least in some parts of the game)
>>730577762>There is multiplayer but I have zero idea if anyone is still playing itI think there's a small dedicated community, so a lot of no fun allowed tryhards.
>>730575696I've only ever played the scenarios in this game. Is the campaign worth playing? I mostly want to do it for the story? Are the campaign stories worth playing?
>>730575734.
>>730577402it's worth playing with and breaking so you can see what they were trying to experiment withhero less stacks, stealth, skill wheel, upgrade choices, different art styleiirc the world got destroyed after homm3 armageddon's blade and they opened a portal to a new world
>>730578725>Are the campaign stories worth playing?Yes. I'd first play through the game's three sets of campaigns (Restoration of Erathia, Armageddon's Blade & Shadow of Death) with the unofficial HD mod, and then install HotA for the Horn of Abyss campaigns.VERY IMPORTANT: After every completed scenario (a single map) in a campaign, you will be prompted to save the game. Always do so. When you complete a campaign, you will see a golden check mark on the select screen of the campaign you finished. If you do not start another campaign from that point, the game will disregard that you completed that prior campaign, and you will not be able to access the hidden campaigns that require you to complete all the previous ones. See picrel for how your campaign screen should look eventually.
>>730578725the restoration campaigns yes, though their difficulty is very low so expect something casualthe addon campaigns are much harder but not necessarily in a way you will enjoy, e.g. dracon requires autistic strategies like using berserk on 10000 nagas cheeseif you are interested in lore it's strongly recommended to play the surrounding games like HoMM2 and Might and Magic 7 to get the full context
>>730580334Part of the reason why I wanted to play the stories was because I love the 3D might and magic games and wanted more lore and story to them.
i loved playing hot seat with my older brother as a kid, got btfo everytime though since i insisted on playing inferno
>>730578343The heroes 3 online community is pretty big , alive and thriving, unfortunately, its not begginer friendly at all, 95% of it is tryhard russians, who will absolutely fuck your ass
Bulwark Cove and Factory are all basically canon now thanks to the board game
>>730583013A board game made those two factions canon?
>>730575696Firstly. You might have some trouble with it first if you don't let yourself just experience it. This means, no second monitor stuff. Some tips:Don't be afraid to save and load before battles. Especially when you are starting. You can discover easily that way if some enemies are ranged ones if you still don't know. Don't feel ashamed about it.UPGRADED units on the world map ALWAYS face LEFT. Some units gain ranged ability when upgraded, like Giants -> Titans. Water Elemental -> Ice Elemental. There few secondary skills you might not want. One of them is the infamous "Eagle Eye". "Scholar" can be bit bad unless you have a town hero with max wisdom to bring units to others etc. but yeah. "Scouting" as well can feel bit meh. And of course don't pick "Navigation" if there is barely any water etc. But in general just pick what you feel like.Biggest fucking tip.DON'TTHINKABOUTMETAATALLSeriously, metaslaving in singleplayer HoMM 3 is idiotic if you are starting. So if you see people giving some in-depth strategies in HoMM 3, or saying "this town is not viable" etc. then just don't listen.
>>730575696Literally the best video game of all time
>>730576589Born 1999 so technically a zoomer. Played the living shit out of this game when I was like 10, still playing it (HotA) now from time to time with frens. It has sovl. The music, the units, the overall flow of the game is too good for you to get insta filtered.
>>730583116>>>>UPGRADED units on the world map ALWAYS face LEFT.>tfw played this game for two decades and never realized this
>>730575696Play necro, get diplomacy, advertise free tour of the skeleton transformer.
>>730575696Best game of all time. Been playing it since it came out, comfiest game ever with insane replay value. Just explore the game on your own. It has a learning curve and it takes time to know each faction and structure. If I could only play one video game in my life it would be this game.
>>730578725You probably won't like them.
>>730583032made cove canon and now they make forge (not mistake with factory)
>>730587769Also I would recommend playing scenarios if you're a beginner, pick a small map with victory conditions set to "defeat all enemies" , its a very time consuming game so be ready for that
>>730575734Mr Hack
>>730583116thislearning how to play actually saps all the fun from the game
>>730577402If you only want more of HoMM 2/3, stick to Heroes 3 mods. But if you want more Heroes stuff and don't mind some changes, you could enjoy it
>>730576589not really, the game works just fine and the artstyle aged like wine, its not a 4X so it plays much faster than your average turn based strategy game but that's a good thing, just give it a go
>>730583032>>730589261The boardgame is doing Factory and Bulwark too, along with Forge
bamp
>>730575696Unit speed affects how far your hero can move on a turn. It's determined by the slowest unit in the army. Therefore, putting most slow units in your armies is self sabotage.
>>730575696Never put a unit with 3 or 4 speed in your army unless it's for base defense.
>>730594826What do I do with them then? Won't I want the extra manpower for those tough fights?
>>730594826What if you have Dimension Gate/Fly and Town Portal? Idea of army speed depending on speed of slowest unit was always dumb.
>>730575734Why is he in every game?
>>730575734mate your picture is shopped, this is the real Crag
>>730596320He's based just like Sandro
>>730596093>main hero with fast flying units harasses enemy heroes and clears mobs using magic>when the main enemy army reaches you, support heroes carrying 2000 dwarves from free dwellings hand over the slow units to the main hero>after the fight you move the slow units back to secondary heroesgranted to beat just AI opponents you don't have to do all this shit. Just walk around slowly with your main hero with a skeleton army and autoresolve everything
>>730576750Easiest difficulty is just completely braindead in the original campaigns
is capitol rush actually good or is it a meme? what about the dwarf bank? I always b uild it thinking I'm going to be the jew now but then keep ending the turn with 0 gold.
>>730577801This anon fapped to the slave women while playing hehe
>>730594826>>730596093Dont think too deep on these advanced strategies, probably took me 20 years, before i found out unit speed affects hero speed, didnt prohibit me from enjoying the game or beating maps on impossible. This minxmaxing shit consumes you, just go in blind and enjoy the game.
>>730597471>is capitol rush actually good or is it a meme?Meme about 95% of the time, it rarely makes sense but it's highly map specific. Don't completely discount it but it's mostly a meme.>what about the dwarf bank? The bigger the map the better, it's legit you can never have infinite money in this game. There are many money tricks rarely talked about such as buying t1 troops that cost less than skeletons, converting them to skeleton and then selling them in stronghold town for profit(with 9 marketplaces), if your map has hill fort it's even better.
>>730575824Yes, playing custom games/maps against AI (which is how the vast majority of people play) there are lots of different options depending on map specs. “Competetive” Heroes3 on the other hand is a boring spreadsheet simulator on ugly maps.
>>730598183so if I am playing rampart what should I build after getting upgraded homestead? do I go right for dragons?
>>730599563Either dragons or mage guild level 4, rampart has a strong start but then it's a bit lackluster.
