Where's Lara?
Pathologic was too odd fir my tastes, it’s like the game intentionally tries to make you uncomfortable.
>>730579398>Brat correctionYou mean like Syuen? Yeah she needs a lot of brat corrections.
I only finished the first oneit's like every sequel they make is some ffviiremake tier fanfiction "remake" of the previous one, like bro we get it already, just make a game with different characters/setting/plot already
How many endings does this one have?
>>730581352it doesnt have multiple endings because you explore all of the story paths before that alá detroit become human

10 hours in, still trapped in the first five days. Also, this game is fucking mental.I don't know what I expected, given that I avoided playing the demo and the quarantine thing. I didn't expect this. I simulatenously fucking HATE every single change they have made to the gameplay, and absolutely admire it. I hate how this is such a step back from the production quality of P2. Everything, from animations past assets past U.I. to music is step back. But I absolutely admire the sheer ambition of it, absolutely fascinating. I hate how fragmented the pacing feels now, how much less "present" you feel. But I absolutely admire how the damn mysteries are presented, it's such a step up in terms of being a detective / mystery game - not only to P2 but to pretty much any game that ever tried this. And it's not like the game does not have a damn good reason for literally all of it.Except for the infected districts, the whole prototype thing. I just straight up DON'T like that system, and I doubt the game will convince me otherwise. I feel like they ironically struggled with conveying the Sand Pest since 2 - in that game, infected districts were barely worth mentioning and getting plagued was grounds for instant load. Now, you can't even get infected, and the infect districts feel like incredibly weird and awkward action puzzle where literally 90%, I just don't even know what is going on, at all. It's hectic and unpleasant in all the wrong ways.I miss the "before the night" medicine calculations I had to in P1, being infected at nearly every day, making educated guesses about which combo of medication is going to NOT kill me in my sleep. But then again, given what P3 is, that would make zero sense, wouldn't it?Also, I'm so fucking relieved they still got Daniil so damn right as a character. He was always by far the most fun of the protagonist, but it's kinda amazing seeing him being just as sharp here as he was in Marble's nest.
>>730584506top right district, questline on day 4
>>730584423>This series has oddly attractive female character models. You DO know about The Void, right?IPL has always leaned very heavily into female physical beauty being something to admire. In P1, with the models and production values being what they are, they at least got the models for the photos to be beautiful. In The Void, striptease is pretty much integral element of the progression, and P2 made Herb Brides striptease is an integral part of their lore.Dybowski was always pretty clear about his attitude towards his subject. Literally inviting dozen beautiful real-world girls to be naked decorations during The Voids official release celebration and all.
Question for those who are far into the game. Are there comfy moments/scenes? I loved hanging out in the steppe and returning to my hideout after a stressful day in the town. And then there is that meet up with friends near a campfire. I wonder if there's something similar here. I already see something like this in conversations with Eva but I hope it's more expanded upon later. Maybe a hangout with Stamatins brothers and Yulia.
I'm examining the first patient on day 4, Daniil said he needs to examine his home but no marker shows up on the map, do I have to just guess or am I softlocked?
>>730585423You don't have this on your map?
>>730585537Yeah it showed up when I left the theater, weird. Maybe I'm just blind.

>>730585574huh?
>>730580247>it’s like the game intentionally tries to make you uncomfortable. That is because that is precisely the case. In fact every single game made by this studio hinges on this premise. They all are designed to make you suffer, each just does it in its own unique way.
>>730585394I'm stuck on day 11 and I've seen nothing that would count as comfy so far. If worse, game feels like hell after day 6, since you have so much shit to do and almost no clues how you can resolve it. More than that, some of the shit that happens can apparently fuck up your save.
The Shabnak mechanics in infected districts are 100% the worst part of the game. I would have very much preferred an infection meter again.
>>730579713artist wants more porn i reckon
>>730585394Oh, I just got an answer to my question. If you wait till 2am you'll get a conversation with Eva and a little perfomance outside. I like it.
>>730579398So will the devoted changeling also get her own game following this pattern

>>730579590>this is what zigger lovers jerk off toLMAO
>>730585720That's just because they are slavs, so much of slav media output is about everything being shit because their lives and culture revolve around everything being shit since that's what life is like for and between them. The western mind is too naive to grasp their alien existance, trying to think these people are just like them when it becomes less true the further east of europe you go.
>>730579590That's one fucked face.
>>730584423>I think porn using these models would do wellThe pathologic series clearly needs more hardcore sex scenes. Can even use it for more despair by having the characters be seeking comfort due to reaching the point of mental collapse from the struggle they face, only for one of the two to die afterwards.Or a healthy character banging some sort of clearly rot-infected individual or obviously nonhuman kinfolk because they've lost their mind to despair.
>>730587932For me, it's rough, sweaty hardcore sex with Aspity
In my game, the dancer from the pub, the first person you diagnose, died, or at least that's what my assistant told me on day 4. Did I get the diagnosis wrong, or does she always die? There is no update on the mindmap, so does it matter to reload Day 3 just for her?
>>730588209Is she in 3? There's quite a few characters I haven't met yet, I feel like in the OG bachelor route you at least talked to everyone in the first 2 days.

But mostly its pretty grim slavic storytelling of everyone suffering.E.g. In P2 the inquisitor was actually pretty sympathetic, this time this inquitsitor just immediately tries to kill everyone after arriving.

>>730588717You can also see her during Isildurs funeral, but you can't talk to her.

>>730590285I mean you could actually do something worthwhile in 2, you got to make a decision which was more important to save and you could save them with a different ending, as long as you didn't make a deal with the devil.
>>730589843>>730588627No, it's because the Inquisitor knows she's in a game. In P2 she tries escaping, and it never works, so now she instead wants to kill everyone.

Map will mark locations (mostly Stairways) where you can trade with kids. The system is nowhere near as extensive as in the first game, but you can still buy meds, ammo, and newly med recipes from them.
Where do I find material for charging my prototype?
>>730591046>You have no clue what the children in a sandbox (which are only really a thing in the first game anyway) actually mean.I have my own ideas obviously, mostly that it's meta commentary et al, but the long and short of it is that in universe your actions don't matter at all. Like a play.
>>730591085>Where do I find material for charging my prototype? You can find some in random containers. There are always supplies for 1 charge in the same room where you do the charging - in a box hidden in a corner next to the doors that lead upstairs. You can also trade for more with the odong that asks to study you. He will hang out in the same room where your microscope and prototype charger is.And finally you can occassionally loot them, from boxes, surrendered enemies or trade for them with children. Though for some reason, I've only ever found belladonna this way.
I just wish amalgam actually mattered>too abundant>costs for timetravelling and dying are a non-issue>it doesn't even cost any amalgam to reset the same day or reset any event chainyou can just retry the same day over and over until you get it perfect and never have more than 1 slice of amalgam empty. This way you will never have a HOPE KINO moment like in P2 when you finally brew the panacea and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mzm6FbyUIw8 begins to play
>>730591085If you're still in the tutorial part of the game then they purposefully give you nothing to make it more stressful. After that you can find it in houses and trade for it.
>>730591235>but the long and short of it is that in universe your actions don't matter at all.You are an idiot, and you are literally missing the point so hard that you are arriving at the EXACT opposite of what every single one of these games, INCLUDING the first one, is telling you.P2 has the fucking deal for fuck sake. >>730591712>>730591947They made the right choice.Instead of making a sequel that is essentially the same game but in a new town and with new characters, they took the old town and old characters and completely redid the gameplay.Very rare you see a sequel like that in the games industry.
>>730592152Changeling was cuter in P1, before she became a chemo patient.

>>730591712>Isn't almost all of it recycled from P2?No, not at all. >>730591620>Fine, post a spoiler enlightening me then of the actual point.1) The kids from the first game are a joke, and like most of the game's meta-narrative, a reference to a legendary short story by the name of "Circular Ruins". To put the story short, they serve as a red herring for less attentative players, and provide another optional revelation to be hidden behind repeated playthroughs through the second secret ending. On top of that, they represent the developers, and more specifically, the transformation and revelation they themselves went through as they continued to develop the game (much like Circular Ruins is both a fun magical story concept, but also a description of what the author himself learned while writing the story. What I'm saying is that the children are WRONG. What they are saying is objectively false, in fact it's a self-contradiction. This is actually fucking obvious when you stop and think about the situation, and just pay attention to what they are saying. They claim to be the makers of the world, implying they have actual agency. But they can't have agency, they are LITERALLY NPC's. This isn't just my speculation, this is what the Executioner tells, basically verbatim, in the second secret ending. There was a point when the whole segment was meant to be genuine: relatively early into the game's development, when the devs invented them as genuine self-insert, a kind of "people don't be too mad at us, we ourselves are little more than children playing around" secret ending bonus, but as they went on developing the game, they realized the fundamental contradiction they've created: having NPC's in a game focused on player agency claiming to be more than NPC's... when they objectively can't be that. Instead of removing it, they left it in for purposes I've described above. And also: The game is fiction.
>>730592253Are they actually based in Russia (unlike other russian devs that fled to Cyprus)? That would contribute to that fact...
>>730579398They do that literally in Britain.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medomsley_Detention_CentreThe government even covers it up.But only if it's boys involved.>>730591856Indeed, because my misery was literally enforced by the anglo system, who is now censoring through esafety laws, ironically.

>>730592407Wait... Sseth did shit for free?I don't believe it.
>>730592313>SpoilerI'm aware of the main meta narrative being that of contradiction. I'm aware that the sequence with the children isn't "real" which is ultimately my issue with the game itself. That said, they still serve as a signpost for the overall narrative of the game not mattering in the slightest, they don't have agency, none of the characters do, not even the player. And finally, yes it is, and I don't like being reminded of that, as it calls attention to the meaningless of both their, and ultimately our existence.
>>730592407I dunno if they did.I'm guessing they sent free copies to Sseth, Mandalore and Ragnar. And Sseth is just the first guy to actually finish a video on it because his videos are 5 minutes long , cover basically nothing and half the runtime is just internet memes.
I'm not that far in but I'm a bit disappointed that they made all this cool stuff for the capital and the game isn't set there. A plague in a major metropolitan area could've been sick.
>>730592230This is what they took away from (You).
>>730592775Yeah, agreed. I did not play P3 yet, but I can already tell comparing Lara's model that she looks brighter and skin and hair look less blurry.
>>730592879Galaxy brain is mandalore had sseth paid because he's actually, unironically in charge of IPL for darkwood 2 now. He was living like a weird hermit cripple with a destroyed spine and got a 2 video out for launch so having nothing this time doesn't make sense otherwise. Plus sseth repeats some points from the 2 video nearly word for word
>>730593825Shame darkwood 2 kind of looks bad...
>>730592775>better lighting
>>730592694>How are those a step back if it's not that different from P2 to begin with?Because they aren't the same. The production quality is different. Lower, to be specific. Animations are more stiff. Assets have lower poly budget. Music lacks fucking THEODOR BASTARD. U.I. is both much more simplistic (no inventory tetris) and is just worse (hit detection on picking up items is massively off, for an instance). All of those things were remade, but remade with lower budget and focus / emphasis on entire different things, like the sheer complexity of mind-map network having to account for the non-linear storytelling.>>730592830>That said, they still serve as a signpost for the overall narrative of the game not mattering in the slightest,You are a COMPLETE FUCKING RETARD. Genuinely, you might be broken and you should probably get some kind of psych/neurological check up.Let me as you this (and this is a question lifted again near verbatim from P2): What THE FUCK do you mean by it "not mattering". It's fiction. It's not real. How can something in it matter or not?
>>730592775Holy cope. Production quality took a nose dive. Replay 2.
>>730594085Yeah they might've went a bit overboard with the subsurface scattering but I prefer it to the concrete skin look of 2. Especially for the girls.>>730580219>>730583653
>>730593825This is actually plausible since at one point they did try to record videos for each other's channel and Mandalore was a big fan of both Darkwood and IPL.I think the tame script is actually because Mandalore wrote it in Sseth's style and the joke at the end is actually a cheeky reference to this.

>>730594672>The game literally gives up the charade and directly states it's all just a fiction.Yes. Which it is. Like any other game, or story.WHAT DOES THAT MATTER?! WHAT DOES THAT CHANGE?!I'm fucking ignoring the fact that you yourself admitted that you know for a fact that the story about the children is FALSE. As in: it is not what happened. It's not what the game suggests or hints has happened. None of it is true.Yet somehow, that fact didn't change your insistance that A) despite that all being false, it still "does not matter" and B) it actually did happen, despite me AND THE FUCKING GAME telling: it didn't. This has absolutely nothing to do with what the game actually says or explores or implies at all. This is you constructing completely retarded, completely contrived excuse to dislike it because it makes you feel insecure. That is the simple matter of this situation.>This is the second time you've asked.Yes, because you are mentally ill. you should be made aware of that fact, and especially your closest surrounding should be aware of that fact, in order to act accordingly. >>730596529>I'm telling you that it'd give you a good and direct example of how the game addresses the exact pointExcept you can do that much easier. By brining up the Death's point made during the Deal offer.Which I did. I fucking pretty much quote the game. It's a quote from the game and it literally solves that problem.Everyone who isn't mentally retarded understands that yes, the consequences of taking the deal DO MATTER. It's why P2 had the fucking meme of "buy the bull, don't take the deal" going on for fuck sake. >>730598041What exactly do you need reagents for? In Quarantine you needed them for sample analysis and vaccine production, but I'm pretty sure they dropped that mechanic entirely. So far I got only two samples to analyze (Young Vlad's "vaccine" and Lara's Shelter Water) sample and it didn't require any analysis. As for vaccines, it's needed for the very first one on day 3, and again, all you need is to complete dancer's quest (as well as taking over the command of the Emergency Headquarters) and an orderly will appear with her blood sample at the end of the day. No reagents needed other than that.On day 4 you don't even make the vaccine, you'll just get told we'd done it if you get all three diagnosis right and talk to the orderly, that will enable you to enact day's vaccination order automatically.>>730598380>is this a sequel do I need to play 1 and 2?No and no.Short story:P2 and P3 are two parts of a (theoretically) 3 part remake of what was P1.And P2 and 3 take place simultaneously, so it does not matter which one you play first.I still feel like playing P2 before P3 makes a bit more sense, since obviously P2 did come out first, and thus P3 has a lot of references 2, but not the other way around. But in strictly technical sense, you can play these games in any order you want, just keep in mind: P1 is an incredibly low-budget amateur experiment from 2004 done by a bunch of students quite literally in their spare time.P2 and P3 are products of the same students exploring the same premise but with 25 years of experience in the industry. They are much more polished and more ambitious, and less broken and amateurish. I recommend to most people to start with 2, now you can also start with 3 - and only play 1 in case you already liked one of the later games and liked it so much you just NEED even more stories from that particular world.Otherwise, P1 is probably just going to be too slow, frustrating and tedious for you.

>>730600506>Is this just a joke or..?100% serious. They both started as dating sims. It's where the whole time management mechanic comes from. It's why women, and frankly, nudity, always plays such a big role in them. Both of them started design and spend early development as literal fucking dating sim VN's because, well, when Pathologic started, it was just Dybowski and a few friends from art university, none of whom had literally any game design, or coding experience, and VN dating sim seemed like the most easy format for a completely tech/medium inexperienced people to make.As they got more people onboard, including people with solid grasp on coding, they started adding more and more features and mechanics, because they were unhappy with just still images. They added in crude 3D environment to give you more sense of presence when moving from one talking head to another. They added some resource managment on top of just... time. And so on and so forth, until P1 as we know it was formed. With The Void, it's kind of a similar story, but this time they had their whole team, they just didn't want to commit to a project as big and exhausting as P1 was, so they once again focused on the original VN dating sim format, this time (and I think I'm quoting here): "A nice, charming VN with beautiful ladies and underlying story exploring notions of art, beauty and creativity."But the same thing happned: they felt it's not immersive enough, started adding more distinct features, expanding the story and so on, until... well, professional digital TORTURE instrument we know as "The Void" was made.Only with their 3rd game, CARGO! did they plan for something that would not be a VN from start.

The usual, "convince a suit exec. with 30-50 minutes of working gameplay" showcase demo. Literally designed to show off and get attention of a board-room of Sony/Microsoft/whatever suit execs. They somehow made it 3 hours long, with multiple different ending, and story so complex and good that it in many ways, became the best content Pathologic ever saw, eventually they repurposed into a DLC more popular than the game itself. They, as you know, didn't get a single publisher's interest though. Because it was supposed to be 40 minutes of simple, straight forward vertical slice jam-packed with most explosive action the game can offer. They genuinely, seriously, have absolutely no fucking self-control. They can't help themselves. At least... Dybowski couldn't. >>730602980>Names were better across the board in the OG translation.I used to think so, but frankly, the devs. indepth explanations convinced me otherwise. My preference for certain names from the old game is a mixture of nostalgia for the version I've spend by far the most time (I'm not kidding, I finished all 3 routes, one of them TWICE, before HD came out, that is like 170 hours of raw time invested), and the fact that as a slav (though not ruskie), some things make sense to me more when barely translated.Like Ospina. First of all I hear the sound of asp in that (in my country, it used to be osa, though now it's "vosa"), and also, because we have another word in my language, "Osina" and more notably, a saying "osina v prdely", which works as a direct analogue to "pain in my ass", and fucking Ospina was a god damn osina in my ass.Similarly, "Laska" just means "Love" in my country, or could also be associated with an out-dated term "laskat", meaning to "Caress gently" - so again that went immediately fitting in my head. And finally, "Authorities" always sounded like something STRAIGHT out of Kafka to me, and he is my second favorite writer of all time.Powers-that-Be makes more sense in context of the same world where you have Inquisitors. It's a better translation with more nuance and closer to the original intent, but subjectively, I prefer Authorities. Same goes for adherents (instead of "bound").Apiary on the other hand... nah. There is a whole faction named "Termites". Termitary is the objectively better and correct translation. But fun fact, when I first played P1, I somehow misconstrue the meaning, though it means what the word "aviary" actually means, and thought it was some kind of super clever dark irony, since aviaries are generally seen as something beautiful, capturing noble creatures. Thought it was super clever, until I realized that is not what Apiary actually means.

>>730604092>Thought it was super clever, until I realized that is not what Apiary actually means.Isn't it a beehive managed by humans? I dont know what the original word was but it makes sense to me. The kin are managed and milked for profit but its very clear the townspeople fear them and theres always a chance they rise up and kill you. Like bees
>>730604242>What language?Czech.>What does 'osina' mean by itself? It's actually a word not really used at all outside of that saying. It's from grain farming, "osina" is the tough, pointy and long part of the outer shell of most grains, wihch kinda acts like a hook or a barb. According to wiki, the English equivalent would be "awn". When people used to process grain, these parts would be naturally removed, and would kinda fly all over the place, and the barb could actually hook up to you and cause significant irritation when they did. If one got stuck in your ass, then... well, it would be painful as all fuck.Again, most people even in my country don't know this, they just know the saying and know it means "something painful in my ass". Nobody has to actually deal with it in real life anymore so the meaning kinda got lost to time. But again, in a lot of slavic languages, you'll have variation of the word osa, or due to minor vocal shift "vosa" in my country's case, that just means a "wasp". Which itself used to be "asp", no doubt the two are geneaologicaly related, probaby coming from PIE.
I just realized that the whole time travel/ event erasing shtick is a meta dig at how people savescummed in 1 and 2 (they made it harder but people still found a way to do it iirc). The whole gameplay is a dig at how most people played 1 and 2. People wanted to "experience the story" and not have to worry about survival and savescummed to get the best outcome.>Now you don't need to worry about survival or savescumming, but good luck experiencing the story since we fucked it up even further :^)

>>730605126Ah fucking hell how HOW HOW
>>730604575>Isn't it a beehive managed by humans?Yeah, it is.>I dont know what the original word was but it makes sense to me.Termitnik I believe is the transription of the russian original. The reference really is to termites, there is a faction of the same name associated with Isildor, which in itself is a reference Lewis Terman and his so called "Termites" club, a sort of exclusive circle of supposedly high-intelligence kids that Terman has created and surrounded himself with in a kind of fucked up social experiment he was running, directly analogical (and inspiring) Isildor's idea of using selected children to transform the city.So... there is actually a lot of intertwining meaning behind this.

I've been avoiding the threads since I didn't have time to play yet, but now I'm finally starting. So let me ask you this: English voices or russian for maximum steppe immersion?
>>730605117>a meta dig at how people savescummed in 1 and 2I mean that is certainly an element, but it is more about them genuinely stumbling on the "non-linear time" minor subplot that was largely introduced in P2 just to give the save system a diegetic explanation, and also, it's a system that according to Dybowski, just best captures Daniil's approach, his story and dillema's.It's certainly not "Just" a dig at players. IPL has done that, once. It was called CARGO! and it didn't go well. There is a lot more honest "this could make the game more interesting and the gameplay reflect this particular character's personal story", with it also being kinda ironic towards some player habits being merely a bonus.
>>730606128afaik, there are no subtitles, so pick ru at your own riskeasier for me since i'm a ruskie, but the default was set to english anyway for some reason
>>730606128I would say "Russian" except there are pretty extensive narrative segments that are only voice-acted, with no subtitles.Specifically, the end of the day plays that you get to see every time you leave Stillwater once you reach the End of a Day status. They are pretty rich in additional lore and story implications, and they forced me to switch to English voiceacting very quickly, even though I'd prefer Russian voices and english subs.

After a brisk walk, I've managed to put my current gripes with the game (beyond just bugs/broken triggers, as that's not intentional and probably will be fixed). The game actually has really, really bad replayability, ironically enough. This is because your resource for switching days is extremely limited and there are only two 'infinite' sources for it.>Curing plague victims (Technically you CAN run out of resources to cure them in a day, and some days don't have plague districts)>Any ending lets you replenish itThis means that going back to check out alternative scenarios beyond basic Yes/No becomes a real, real fucking hassle. As essentially I would have to>Go back to the day>Do the change>Go back to Day 12 and do an ending>Repeat ad infinitum.Couple that with broken triggers means that sometimes things just don't fucking work with characters alive/dead when they shouldn't be, or with events happening that shouldn't happen and so on, and it becomes a real headache. Not only that, because you can only turn events OFF (you need to play them again to turn them ON), doing tests for events that have precluding events before them might mean you would have to replay days at a time for MAYBE something different (if it's not broken), needing you to constantly top up on time. Now, I thought of a simple solution:If you reach a day 12 ending, take out the resource for time completely so it's free. There's no point in having it at that point anyway as you can just get infinite by doing a quick ending, it just saves a lot of time and headache.
>>730606470I'm a pedo and the generic kids don't do anything for me, but my god Capella is a different story. She was... gorgeous even in the first game, at least her photo was. >>730591690
>>730606553I don't know, I'm just 10 hours in but Amalgam being in any way the bottleneck on my exploration seems wrong. The limited supplies on that day seem like much more of an issue, since there is a finite amount of healing items and stimulants. I feel like that would be far bigger problem if I wanted to thoroughly test-run every single day like 5-6 times to see all the outcomes. As for replay value... I never felt like any of the games were particularly well designed for high replay value. I suppose P2 was the most, with shit like hug runs being an interesting incentives, but Pathologic games all feel so throughly exhausing, and also so heavily dependent on that initial immersion (before you learn all the tricks to break the economy and declaw the tension), that playing them more than twice never seemed that appealing to me.
>>730607208I know how you feel, as at that point I also had the gauges all full. I'm not talking about replayability in a general sense of playing the game again, but in the sense of going back to redo choices, which is a part of the linear gameplay here. Once you have all the days unlocked, you are essentially only losing time as there are no more mirrors to break or Amalgam to earn from Eva.The daily resources are a nothingburger as there are so, so many chests littered about. Just the cathedral area has, what.. Four? And one healing drink is only ONE point, which is insanely cheap. You don't really need anything else anyway.

But yeah. She used to write explicit gay fan-fiction in bulk, in very good English, and that caught the studio's attention and they contacted and hired her. I think one of the main reasons why nobody knows (or at least uses) her real name, is because Alpyna was her handle on Russian Pathologic Gay fanfiction forums.I have no fucking clue. It's not like these game's aren't LITERALLY based off dating sims, and LITERALLY choke full most blatant waifu and loli baiting I've seen outside of Japan. >>730608583>In which time period game set? It's deliberately anarchronistic, and the setting itself has changed a bit over each iteration. The first game was very, very strongly implied to take place in an something very analogical to 1900-1920's, pre-revolutionary Russia, down to soldiers still wearing sailor suits. There however, were elements not fitting that windown, including a gun based off Schwerer Gustav. With P2, the setting has moved more towards roughly WW2 aesthetic, especially in regards to the military, the WW1 elements were scaled down.>Is setting even our world? No, it's a fictional world, though analogies and since WW2 even references to our world are common and obvious. The country, called simply "Motherland", and being a giant empire spread from extremely western, enlightenist early 20th century Capital, to extremely remote central / eastern-Asian Steppes occupied by strange nomads, is extremely obviously based off Imperial Russia. There are wars happening clearly very analogical to WW1 and 2, the society of the town has certain very close similarities to small town pre-revolutionary Russia with it's structure of nobles, citizens and commoners and their hiearchies. In P2, the steppe folk are even quite explicitly based of Buryat cultures. But it is just "Motherland", a fictional country, and the games are full of magical elements, you could call them "fantasy" if you wanted, though "magical realism" is more appropriate here. It's all quite heavily inspired of authors like Kafka and Bulghakov and Platonov, all mostly writing in first two decades of 20th century and all having very surreal, mystical or magical undertones or elements to them.
They made the two playable male characters way more attractive than the playable female character, then proceeded to focus more on those two dudes as protagonists. It might not be so surprising.

>>730609473>They made the two playable male characters way more attractive than the playable female characterIn P1, Clara wasn't yet the hideous cancer patient she is now, she was originally quite cute, though obviously: she is a child. Also, I'm not the best judge of this, but is Daniil supposed to be "attractive"? Not my choice of words. Artemy is quite literally called "the Bear" so that one fits, but especially in 1, he was also quite unlikable, a gloomy, borderline sadistic psycho. Him genuinely becoming this kind man busy with taking care of stray kids till he earns the love of Lara is largely a P2 invention, in the first game he was just... borderline feral. And as for time not spend with Clara.. true, but she is also deliberately a profoundly untrustworthy when you deal with her, and her campaign was both the most ambitious, and had least resources to spend on.

>>730610152That is not an entirely bad comparison honestly, though it would be huge disservice to everyone to call anything about Pathologic "lovecraftian". Lovecraft himself was a massive influence of Borges (alongside Kafka), who in turn inspired a lot of other people, Dybowski included. Pathologic is closer to Borges in that is a bit more of intellectualism - magic is most often a symbolic representation of some philosophical notion in these games, rather than exploring primal and primordial fears like it is with Lovecraft. But there is a direct line between these works.>>730610321>wtf did I blame hbomberguy for nothing? I honestly don't know anything about hbomberguy beyond the fact that he did at one point endorse Pathologic games, which judging from how bad his rep seems to be, may have done more harm than good.I've never seen him videos on Pathologic or any other game, the only two people I've trusted not to completely mess everything up were Mandy and FunWithSexbad, an obscure but at one time really good youtuber, who does not exist anymore from what I can tell. What did you blame Hbomber for, if you don't mind me asking? >>730610541>the fact it seems like this game is doubling down on daniil being superstraightDaniil has always been insanely heavily manipulated by women, I honestly feel like they scaled it down a LOT in P3.In P1, Eve, Maria, Lara and even Angela have him wrapped around their fingers for most of the game, he is just going from being a simp for one to a simp for another.Originally, Artemy had only one single romantic interest, and that was because she was a stranger to the town. Daniil had romantic interests quite explicitly stated for at least four girls, even the later portion of his main story revolved around Mistresses and Maria's machinations in particular. He was always straight, and always simping.Artemy was the one not giving a fuck about women until Aglaya literally confessed to him.

>>730610934>How survival heavy is 3?A lot less, for better and worse. Food, water and sleeping are no longer actually a thing, at all. There are new mechanics to replace them, but they are both less elaborate, more lenient, and generally focus on much short-term planning, since due to its non linear nature, in P3 your survival strategies for one day do not really affect the day after, consumables (for the most part) don't transfer from one day to another. The main survival concern now is no joke, mental health and it's a lot more about maintaining balance than it is about long-term planning. The hobo economy is also largely gutted. It sounds a lot worse than it really is though. The game just does things entirely differently, but the gameplay serves the story near perfectly - it's just a different type of story, and different gameplay than you are used to.Still, if you didn't care about story, and liked P2 for gameplay specifically... P3 may be pretty frustrating to you. You are also a rarer sight than a unicorns are IRL.

>>730613219>Is there a way to reconcile the kains with Yulia?I don't think so, because that would require you to officially switch to path where you tried to run away, which stops your progression.I think it's all an interesting remnant of the OG Pathologic's escape quest line. Which by the way, in the OG story, is originally invented by Eve of all people, she just ropes you, Yulia, and Stamatin's into it, because she becomes pathologically obsessed with the feeling she is going to die. She is absolutely freaking out, the main reason why you want to leave is because she absolutely needs to, she is CONVINCED that she'll die otherwise... except then she does not arrive at the agreed meeting spot because she OD's on sedatives and sleeps through the agreed time.Eve is a really fucking different character in P1. So much more petty and immature and self-absorbed. I get that the new one has more going for her, but sometimes I miss the dumb bitch who offs herself out of SHEER JEALOUSY AND SPITE she used to be.Anyway, I think the whole reconnect Yulia with Kains is just forgotten when you cancel out the run-away version of the story and there is no way to bring it up again.

>>730613287>I still can't believe Murky in P2 just outright confesses being in love with Artemy.Yeah, but that is just Murky's way of talking, she is in love means she just cares, likes you like children love their parents or parental figures. My told me she loves me more than once and it's because she really likes the way I read her stories whenever I visit her.>>730613287>OTOH, in the old Blade Runner game you can romance and kiss a 14 year old girl.Yeah that is a more disturbing story, because it's like you can have a little shared moment with her. Lucy is being sexually abused by the pet shop owner, apparently for at least half a year, and one of the ending is the two of you literally eloping as lovers. There is no ambiguity, those are just straight up sexual relationships, and she ISN'T EVEN A REPLICANT IN EVERY RUN, all of this is happening and can happen when both of you are human. That is a lot, LOT more fucked up than anything in P2. P2 does have arranged marriage between two 13 years old kids, but that is about it.

>>730613989>literally what?Capella in P1 and Murky in P2, if nothing else. These games generally give children a LOT more attention, depth and focus than any game I've seen in my life - mostly it's kinda fucking horrifying, but Capella is a character you are supposed to at least admire and she's 13, and in P2 Murky is one of the biggest parental-feeling baits I've seen. I'm not saying I want to fuck either of them but you get what I mean, the appeal to paternal / parental instincts and more is clearly major part of it.
>>730613971>P2 does have arranged marriage between two 13 years old kidsFeels like they arranged that between themselves though!
>>730613926You need to make the projectile from the seed, and then you get one for the day. Blast it with it.
>>730614298Oh yeah thats fair, but loli kinda has a sexual connotation. I didnt get that implication from any character besides eva and maybe andrey making weird comments about bending you over. But if youre talking about the characters just being lovable kids yeah thats true, and i think the children are written in a pretty realistic way that you dont normally see>>730614247>>Murky is cute and some anons want to fuck her i guesspuke.
>>730613926>also, what, just blast it with the prototype and thats it?If you are talking about surviving Infected zones, yeah, zoom around in mania, blast unavoidable obstacles with prototype and that is more or less. You don't need the samples - they just make the game easier by making all infected zones on that day easier. The "projectile" - I don't fucking understand what that is about, but the device is actually used to make vaccines, and if you do get the appropriate material, the description shifts properly to "make vaccine".To make vaccines, you need to solve all of the diagnostic puzzles on that day. On day 3 it's just one, Kugan or whatever her name is, on day 4 there are three of them.Only on day 3 you actually do get to make the vaccine manually though, an orderly will bring you the dancer's blood if you got her diagnosis right and you'll make vaccine out of that.On day 4 you don't even get any sample, if you got all the diagnosis correctly, they'll just tell you "good job, now go issue a vaccination decree!"
>>730610940>hbomberguyI can summarize why I dislike him:>half of his content is ideological dribble>other half is 4 hour long "essays" about video games>comes off as childish, an ideological zealot, smug, condescending (I am the smartest and I am always right)>his content is very low quality despite its length>has a tendency to present speculation, fanfic, headcanon as facts>whenever he seems something "clever" in a game, no matter how mundane he will start making monkey noises and start screeching about how the devs are geniouses etc (not an exaggeration)>always interprets things through his ideological lens>already mentioned this somewhat but have to emphasize that the way in which he presents his content to his core audience, which will never ever play any of the games he makes videos about, is EXTREMELY HARMFUL because he mixes his own opinions and theories with actual plot points without disclosing itHis fanbase is the most insufferable too due to all of the above because you have a bunch of ill-informed condescending politburo assholes who will shit over any discussion about the game with their politically charged fanfics and delusions.I don't mention his actual political stance because I think it's irrelevant in this case, but I will say that no other group is as prone to believe that they are morally right (subsuquently, that they are always right because if you are morally right it obviously means you are objectivally right all the time, obviously), except for maybe some Protestant cults.

I know Capella absolutely hated the idea in P1, but like everything she was doing there, she saw it like an obligation to the rest of the children. In P2 its even implied the two might genuinely like each other. All I've seen of Capella in P3 so far was her corpse hanging from Oglyomski's burned out mansion in Quarantine, and her unlocking a door for me in the first version of day 5.I assume she'll be more prominent once you get to the Mistress stuff in later parts of P3.>>730614538>puke.Murky is more along the lines of Yotsuba, not even pedo's want to fuck her, she is just fucking adorable in a genuinely child-like way.

>>730614612Thank you for the breakdown, I can see how his endorsement of Pathologic made some people weary. I always find these kinds of scenarios frustrating, because I'm genuinely glad for every single person who just spreads awareness of these games, but then you end up in situation like the (now thankfully nearly non-existent) retards who used to flood Pathologic threads with "nothing matters because children and a sandbox" retardation, which I'm entirely, 100% confident they got off some video, or maybe some /v/ thread that accidentally got viral or something - because you could not spout that shit if you have played the god-damn game yourself.Hell, I like Mandy's stuff, I think his Pathologic videos are good, but even he I think may have harmed the game by revealing just a bit too much, especially in P2 review.I think the best job I've seen on approaching spoilers and speculations was ironically enough in old Yatzee's videos, like when in his Braid review he says "he is trying to save the princes, or maybe she's his daughter, or mother, or maybe she is the god damn nuclear bomb for all I know!" and it sounds 100% like he is just making fun of the game, and you genuinely need to play the whole thing before you realize that wasn't a joke, he actually did get the story, that was a spoiler but hidden so well it could not cause harm.
>>730614905>she is just fucking adorable in a genuinely child-like way.one reason why i wont get all of the achievements in P2 is because one of them you get if you dont cure Murky (i think you need to get infected instead of her?) and she dies on like day 7 or something. i just cant bring myself to do it

>>730615885>(i think you need to get infected instead of her?)Yeah. If you don't follow her to meet her "friend", or don't explicitly offer to take her fate on yourself, she'll die.She won't even be sick, you won't even get the chance to get her a powder or a panacea - she'll be straight up dead the next day.I know this because my friend just did this on accident, and he not only just quit the game, and never played it again - he seemed genuinely traumatized by that, he went from telling my daily about what he has been doing it, to suddenly just absolute silence, just refusing to talk at all. When I got him drunk he told me that is what happened, he told Murky to fuck off because he was exhausted and she already wasted his time on several occasions, he assumed it's like when she promised you to tell you how to speak to dead people.I can't see myself doing that on purpose either. Lara must survive, Capella must survive, Murky and Sticky must survive. Those are pretty much my absolute conditions for a successful P2.

>>730615642>I think the best job I've seen on approaching spoilers and speculations was ironically enough in old Yatzee's videosBig issue is that his videos are 5 minutes long while Mandalore is one of the newer hour long video type of reviewers. I've watched a few on games I've played and half of the video is explaining the plot. The mindset of people is much different now. I can't remember the last time I've seen someone get mad spoilers, because half the time they spoil shit themselves. I do understand why people get mad about the sekret club being uncovered, but the endless seething about these youtubers is usually worse for the related threads than the newfags. Especially someone like seth, who seems to have a cohort of hatewatchers. I don't really remember the mandalore videos being discussed too much, although it's been a while.
>>730616124>Sounds right lmao.I've learned about Pathologic from an ANCIENT /v/ "surreal videogame rec. chart" back from 2007. I know it was from 2007 exactly because it still listed "The Void" as "Turgor".Honestly, I don't know how I came across that chart, I used to casually browse /b/ at the time but not really /v/. A lot of good games were on that list, but Pathologic just blew my mind at the time, which in return got me visiting /v/ and posting here ever since. This was just before I graduated highschool, so... 2007-2008.But the heyday of IPL threads here was around 2011-2013. Vladeworth and all that jazz was happening then, we had threads almost weekly for a while. Though it was a small group of people, small enough to start recognizing each other by posting style alone. Before that, it was often just me making the threads for few years, and if lucky, getting around 100 replies. Also, Butchering Pathologic was I believe a 2008 article, and that had huge impact.
>>730616459It's hard because I truly like most of the characters. Big Vlad is a cunt but the game does a good job of making you despise a character one playthrough and like them on another. It really felt like different perspectives despite all the gameplay in 1 playing mostly the same.

I don't like him, but he matters to Victoria, and Victoria matters to me.Even if she acts like an absolute fucking idiot in 2, to a point where she got Notkin killed in my run. I generally tried to save all the kids, but Notkin was literally out of my control, because Capella decided to take all of the children into Polyhendron on the same night he got infected, meaning I physically could not reach him to deliver the miracle, and he got two bad rolls in a row, dying before Capella comes to her senses. Also, I hate the kin. Pathologic 2 made me into a racist, it made me believe the kin NEED to fucking die. The psycho little girl I would save but everyone else needs to fuck off back to Bos Turokh, and by that I mean 6 feet under and fucking stay there for a change. Aspity, Oyun, every single worm or herb bride to have walked the fucking steppe need to die. Both Vlads are dicks but I have a soft spot for them. Peter and Andrey just kept dying on me, to a point where I give up. It's not like I want them to die, more like at some point I felt like THEY want to die, they got infected like 4 or 5 times in my run, at some point I figured out it's just god's will and left them. They both died on the same day, which I found to be rather merciful for them.Angela is absolutely insane, but I feel kinda sorry for her, knowing what I know form P1, so I did went out of my way to save her, despite her little antics in the infected districts.Rubin and Grief... both died on me. Grief I like a lot, Rubin is an idiot that put me through hell just to save him - and then died anyway but giving himself up to Kains.I would have saved him just for Lara, but FUCK HIM, he wasn't worth the Hustle. I'm not sure how did Grief die, it was after Aglaya brainwashed him.

>>730617662I was 100% behind Artemy's solution in 1, and I stand behind it in 2. Even if 2 makes it a lot less clear-cut, they add a LOT more weight to Kain's arguments, and make Artemy's solution a lot less ideal, with it now killing the heart as well as the polyhedron, which wasn't he case in 1.Still, I'm team "Down with the tower of literal made up shit" all the way, I doubt P3 will change that.My very first run of P1 was Daniil (back then still Daniel, because that was pre-HD), and I just opted to let Artemy have his way after the final debate.Well - honestly, my first run was a failure, because I've decided to spend my last powder on Lara instead of Rubin, getting locked into the bad ending, but... upon reload, my next choice was absolutely "down with the eyesore."

>>730618286Nah. People massively overrate the first game's music and underrate the second one's, purely on how immediately distinctive P1 was. Much like the visuals, the soundtrack is perfect for what P1 is - a fever dream. But in terms of variety, sheer quality of composition, number of high-quality compositions, depth, and emotional range, P2 absolutely, completely, 100% mogs the first game in terms of music. Shit like Childhood's Grave, Mourning of The Gone, The Doctor is Dead, Volch'ya Yagoda, Miracle Workshop, Disappearing. Nothing anywhere in P1 gets even CLOSE to that level of quality.P1 is weird and immediately stick out, but when you really pay attention to it, it's actually not that interesting. P2's music often requires a little more attention, but it fucking sticks around for a lot longer.I haven't stopped listening to the Theodor tracks to this day, on daily basis.

>>730618709Okay, but P3 has the worst music so far. It's just so background that you never notice it, on top of the Qmode making you not even hear it.Most of P3 is spent with intense heartbeat THUMP THUMP THUMP and HMM Q ZOOM IN, you rarely hear the music. Was there any music, actually..? >>730618438>because they know you know and they know you know they know. That is true. IPL has mastered working with player expectations all the way back in Pathologic 1. The Albino incident is so notorious PURELY because what a brilliant play on player expectations it was. And they have been doing it ever since: Same goes for Surface and the Second Rat. I trust even CARGO! and Knock-Knock have their own little FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR EXPECTATIONS moments but I'm not strong-willed to stick with either to the end.

>>730619156How about n- ACK
>>730618893>Okay, but P3 has the worst music so far.Yeah, I agree, I've literally not noticed it in the 10 hours so far. Which would be fine for any other game but this is IPL, their soundtrack quality legacy has been impeccable. P3 feels incredibly subdued.>>730618880>P2 music is very good ambiance. It's actually exactly the other way around. P1's music is a great ambiance, especially for that game in particular. It compliments it's weird, surreal, feverish mood perfectly, it turns the originally unintentionally weak aspects (results of extremely low production values and lack of experience) into a cohesively weird experience. But that is it. It's NOT good music, it is just the perfect ambient to this particular mood.P2 has a TON of music like that, there is like 30 tracks total, 20 of which work exactly like P1's music, they merely compliment the background. But on top of that, P2 also has the stand-out shit, mostly things where Theodor was involved: and that shit is GREAT. MUSIC.People who never played the damn game and never will listenting to that shit for YEARS level of great. "It's actually a fantastic album by a legendary band" type of GREAT MUSIC.Again, Mourning of the Gone is a track I'd recommend to anyone, it's just fucking amazing work. P1 does not have a single track like that. It's all experimental beeps and boops, neat but shallow as all fuck.

Hrmm yes this is really simple and not messy at all I can clearly see every connection very well.(This system scales like shit)
Wait so Quarantine is mostly just sections of the main game? I'm good to skip?
>>730618959>It's been 25 years, how would you say it has aged?Yeah, but mostly off the back of the "for our country and about our country". I can tell you for sure Dybowski would not sign that after 2022.It also comes across as pretentious. The "we make our games for elites" stuff and all that... you can tell an barely 20 years old student wrote that. There is a reason why they took it down. But the core gist of it, if you ignore the often pretentious wording, still holds. Their fascination with Catharsis being product of discomfort. Their desire to make their games have greater meaning, their focus on advancing the medium itself and exploring the limits, their stubborn refusal to conform: it holds true for everything they have done, including P3.They got the core ideas right all the way back in like what, 2003? They just needed to learn tact and gain experience and lose a bit of that youthful arrogance, but yeah. The core ambition holds true. I wonder if it will hold true post Dybowski. I'm actually, genuinely curious.
>>730619925>I wonder if it will hold true post DybowskiI haven't actually followed it past what I've heard in the threads, but he's definitely gone for good? Any chance he makes another studio? Is he actually in jail?
>>730619681Seems so. A couple of the capital scenes seem to be missing from the main game, but everything else is in.
>>730619681Yes and yes. Quarantine does have a couple segments that serve as the game's prologue - early on it actually has you starting at the university in the Capital, it has you talking to your students about how your lab is being shut down, it even has a small, very janky setpiece where you are escaping the university, unloaded gun in hand. But if you know the basic background of Daniil already, none of this stuff is new, or particularly interesting. Then it basically throws you into the middle of Day 4 from the actual game, has you do an early-beta build of what you can just play.So yeah. Skip it entirely, or play just the first 10 minutes of it, don't bother with the rest.
>>730579398No Dybwoski, no buy. Simple as.Fuck nuIce Pick Lodge.

>tfw no pathologic porn
>>730620028>but he's definitely gone for good?Yeah, I think he is gone for good. Though this is IPL, they are masters of ressurections, so I would not COMPLETELY rule it out. From all I could find it seems to be a problem on 2 layers. The accusations leveled at him being so serious not even Ruskies can just let it go, and his presence actively undermining the studio's name so much I think even he himself would agree it would be stupid to stay.AND him being exhausted. And I don't blame him. Whatever he has gone through, he clearly hasn't been in a good place for years now. I think something broke in him during the P2's initial failure - or even before that.I never felt like he ever rebuild his confidence after that, and I'm not sure he was even happy working on games. He's in his late 40's. He has been doing this nonstop for 25 years. Quarter of a fucking century. He is probably just burned out and needs some time to put himself together.I won't and even can't attest to the validity of the accusations, that aspect goes beyond me, but I don't think I've felt him passionate in or confident about what he was doing since P2 was released. So yeah, I think everything pretty much lined up for him to completely change gears. I don't think he'll be starting a studio. He may release some tiny personal projects, more on level of Franz than say, Knock-Knock and much less on level of Pathologic. That is my guess about the future.

>>730620253That is a fun comparison, because she is SO MUCH BETTER as a character. You pointing it out kinda makes me dizzy with just how vast of a difference these two characters make. And yeah, Infinite may be a particularly bad example - but there was a time when Lewine's games were seen as extremely good writing. Hell, a lot of people thought Infinite itself was a clever and deep game - though I think most people saw past it.But my god. That is a fun comparison to make indeed.
After playing this game I am severely worried for the fate of Darkwood 2 since Icepick Lodge is in charge of it.
>>730620182Why's he gone anyway? Only found out he left the studio after they announced Ice Pick Lodge were making a new Darkwood game.
why do zoomers love fear and hunger but this never took off?
>>730620987His personal life is in a self-destructive tailspin.
>>730620182>Fuck nuIce Pick Lodge. That is not exactly fair. It's not like they are to blame. They didn't even denounce him like every fucking western studio would in the same case. They stayed perfectly neutral, didn't pass any judgements as far as I can find.Shit happened, forums went up in flames, Dybowski announced he is leaving of his own volition, they were left to pick up the pieces and soldier on.And they did wrap up P3 even without him. Granted, the game was pretty much in post production, he wasn't exactly necessary anymore, but still.
>>730620987i think he got cancelled and raped like 20000 women or something, people are still raging because he's listed in the credits
>>730620987>>730621182The most serious and ultimately damning accusations are all drunken domestic violence onces. Beating his (now-ex) wife, their son, even attempting to kidnap the kid after the divorce, and assaulting his former father in law. Some further allegations suggested what was suggested already before - his gambling addiction resulting in various smaller or bigger frauds or at least questionable treatment of the studio's money. But it's mostly shit specifically tied to the history of his divorce, and him becoming violent when drunk, which was becoming also increasingly common, according to the accusations.Again: there is just no way to judge the validity of these claims. Divorces are always a shitshow, and the odds of him being exactly as he was described, and the odds of him being a victim of a vindictive cunt trying to destroy his life after the divorce are around 1:1. The number of people corroborating that he has become increasingly unstable is massive. The causation can be either way though: his instability being the cause of his disastrous personal life, but also his disastrous marriage driving him unstable.Shit like this is unreadable from the outside. It really is.
>>730620987Got cancelled
Wtf is wrong with the homeless guy bobok?
>>730620572Which characters or scenes would you like to see porn of? Just curious
In kinda lost /v/: I wanna get into Pathologic but I read the second game is a remake of the first one but with some missing stuff. Do I have to play them in order or starting with 2 is the correct way to star?
>>730622052You can play the games in any order. I still recommend starting with 2, and only ever play 1 if you get super into the other ones.
>>730621623I didn't know he was based like that
>>730621028>why do zoomers love fear and hunger but this never took off?Because this shit requires you to think. P2 failed because it was too "hard" (it wasn't hard, it was just deliberately tense), but even if it was more accessible, the story would still be too complicated and complex for most people.Layers of Fears literally play themselves, and the story is actually dumb as a brick. It does not stress you out beyond "creepy visuals", does not actually require to learn new mechanics, plan out strategies, or make uncomfortable choices and deal with unpleasant consequences, and the story is ultimately very simple, you absolutely barely need to pay attention to get most of it. Just the logic of the settings, the number of players, cultural quirks, factions, ideas and ideologies alone in Pathologic games makes most people give up after 2 hours, because "they are confused". Most people aren't willing to play a game for 2-4 hours after which they are still unsure what is going on. Most people like their stories simple and as quick to comprehend as possible. A twist is fine, but figuring out shit for hours is just too much. And that is before you add people who can permanently die, player death permanently punishing you, and playing against a CONSTANT timer.Just remember how many people refused to deal with KCD's fucking Schnaps.Just that system made MILLIONS of people avoid that game.Pathologic is hundred times worse than that. It will NEVER appeal to mainstream zoomie population, they are way, way too comfortable for that.

Still don't get how the time travel thing worksSo do you need to complete every quest line in the day before proceeding to the next day?The searching for Peter quest took me most of the time in day 2, I barely have any time left for the other quest.
>>730622052As always:Pathologic 1 was a gargantuan game made by amateurs back in 2004. It consisted of three stories, each having it's own protagonist. The three stories did take place simultaneously, in the same setting - they had almost the same gameplay (with tiny quirks unique to each character), took place in the same city, over the same 12 days, but as each character was completely unique as a person, the actual story: all of the quests, dialogues, point of interest etc... were unique to that character.P2 was supposed to be a straight remake of P1, but eventually the studio realized that is both financially impossible (all three stories combined make up for a good 120 hours of gameplay), and unwise, because they would repeat one of the biggest problems of P1: repetition. So they decided to scale divide things. Instead of releasing P2 - a 1:1 remake of P1, they'll make three separate games: P2, P3, and P4, each being remake of ONE of the three stories. The trick will be: each one will actually be a unique game - each having entirely different gameplay, specifically tailored to that character. Also, this would give them more time to expand each individual story-line.And that is what we got. P2 was remake of the story of character named Artemy (aka Haruspex). It plays similarly to P1, though much, MUCH better, it's just an insane upgrade over the old game, and the story is better too.P3 is remake of the story of character named Daniil, AKA Bachelor. It's vastly different from both 1 and 2, it's an entirely different genre. Hell, it's an entirely novel, never tried way to tel a story. There is still tenously planned P4, remaking the last planned story, Clara. But since the spiritual father of this entire franchise recently decided to step down and leave the industry, it's highly unlikely we'll see that final part of the remake being really done. That is how it works. P1 is a janky mess but with all three stories in one place. P2 and 3 are remakes of 1.
>>730622913so....should I play Pathologic 1 first or jump straight into 2?
>>730620802>>730620879Alright, just gonna need a third star now...

>>730623036this is already hot as fuck
I'm playing 2 and uuuhSome sketch as fuck girl is asking for me to kidnap a baby??????The fuck happens if you do
>>730622052Pathologic 1 (aka classic HD) is one story, told differently accross 3 character routes.Pathologic 2 and 3 each have only one of these character routes, but reinterpreted and expanded to a full sized game.Because for each character the story starts at, well, the beggining, it doesn't matter which game and which character you start with.On paper it sounds like you're playing the same story three times, but it really isn't.Nowadays the recommended play order is probably>start with P2>liked it? play P3 >really liked the setting and/or writing? Want a deeper understanding of the characters? Play Classic HD>still haven't had enough? Play the Void, play marble Nest, look up old threads in the archives>you're in bed with a fever? Play the Clara route of the original game>>730623010see above, P2 is a good starting point for newcomers>>730623103In this context, Classic HD means pathologic 1.
>>730623165You save a baby.
>>730623010Depends on your tolerance for jank and bullshit. For most people, I'd say start with 2. You can also start with 3 now, actually, though I'd say 2 is the better choice for now.2 and 3 are actual games made by people with 20 years of experience. They are still weird, flawed and janky, but they mostly work as games, aside from being amazing stories.P1 was done by a bunch of students who had NO idea what they are doing. It's actually a mutated dating sim, not joking. It's an absolute mess - technically, production-wise, design-wise... it has briliant ideas and of course, the story is amazing. And in P1 you get ALL the story, all three characters, at once. But the pacing is so fucking dire, the game is so janky, most people won't stomach it. And that is not them being morons, that is just the game being borderline disfunctional.I think today, P1 is mostly a curiosity, and definitely not a good way to get into the franchise. It's wiser - I believe - to start with the comparably more accessible 2 - or 3 if you are feeling kinky - and if you like those games, and just REALLY crave more, then go to Pathologic 1 and give it a spin.
The real tragedy was what they did to Anna Angel's design in P2.
>>730622913>it's highly unlikely we'll see that final part of the remake being really doneMark my words, the Changeling route will happen as a fangame
>>730591546i didnt watch it but it struck me as obvious he was paid to review it because the game looks like assone of the videos he released was pretty clear that hes only going to do it for money now
>>730623370I can understand it, but yeah, it's a tragic loss.
>>730623010As the post you're replying to said, 2 and 3 are basically remakes of their respective routes in 1. If you think you're able to enjoy a janky indie game from 20 years ago then yes, play 1. Most of us probably started with it. If you don't, then try 2.
>>730623410>Mark my words, the Changeling route will happen as a fangameTo be fair, P3 is dropping a LOT of hints towards Clara's route, it's clear she was being seriously considered when they were developing the game, so maybe there IS a master plan for Changling's route. But if I was IPL right now, I would not want to make it. Just the sheer scrutiny and impossible expectations stemming from what fans would make up as "the Clara route if Dybowski was still in charge!" would be impossible to live up to.But we'll see. With IPL, you genuinely never fucking know.
>>7306230102 then 3 then Classic HD if you want more.
>>730623460Is Classic HD preferable to the original release?
>>730623605no one is going to play that shit unless they make clara cuter again
>>730622809Sorry I walked back to the city with DARKNESS playing.
>>730623416>because the game looks like assSseth isn't known for giving a shit about how games look, and Pathologic 3 isn't a game you can judge based on looks though. And Sseth was known to be a major fan of the previous games, he refrained from making a video after Mandy did it, stating that he would not have much more to add - I think he even steps in at one point of P2's review, doesn't he?He definitely was a fan of the franchise. Yeah - the video came out before the game did. He clearly had early access to it, which means some degree of favours with the developer.I SINCERELY doubt IPL paid him to praise the game. You would understand why if you knew the studio a bit.
>>730605117Oh no, poor tortured artists are upset people cheated and savescummed to enjoy the story of their game, robbing themselves of the "epic struggle" of the "hardcore challenge" and "tough decisions!" Thing is, both pathologic 1 and 2 have extremely terrible, glitchy, and unsatisfying """"gameplay"""". Pathologic 3 is the same exact way. It really sours the experience.
>>730623641Yes.
>>730623776i do not mean graphics.>I SINCERELY doubt IPL paid him to praise the game. You would understand why if you knew the studio a bit.the lady doth protest too much, methinks
>>730623641Yes, the original English translation was botched.
I went back to replay the dialogue in Pathologic Classic HD when Peter wanted to kill himself while wearing the executor outfit and it confirmed for me that Classic HD has the best writing of any of the games. I haven't played 3 but the prose looks much simpler now.
>>730623641I heard the English translation in the original was completely different and near incomprehensible. Never tried it myself though.
>>730623641>Is Classic HD preferable to the original release?I mean I don't think you can buy the original release at all at this point, but yes.Pathologic 1 means Pathologic Classic HD. Even if you somehow got your hands on any other version of it (not sure how you would), all you'd get is a worse translation and more bugs and compatibility issues.Pathologic Classic HD just means the game was finally properly translated into English, and got minor tweaks such as wide-screen support. No reason to play any other version. Trust me on this, I played 170 hours of the older version. It's not better.
>>730623873Ah, you are a retard? I understand now. Carry on.
>>730623960>was completely different and near incomprehensibleIt wasn't actually completely different. It was a lot WORSE, and barely comprihensible. But I did finish all of the game in the original translation, and I got the story correctly. It took a lot more effort because you need to read everything three times, and sometimes you have to guess.Plus, a lot of minor nuances were lost in that version, because the translation was done by people completely outside of the studio. But it is the same story, same characters, and with some extra effort, you'll get the same general experience. It's just - objectively and needlessly - a little worse than HD in every way.
>>730623978I think Classic HD on GOG comes with the original as an extra.
>>730623920>I haven't played 3 but the prose looks much simpler now.It is, they were written by two different people. P1 was just Dybowski. P2 and 3 is all Alpyna, with Dybowski directing and supervising. But I argue that Alpyna's work is for the most part, better, and Dybowski I know for a fact, would agree. There is a reason why he promoted her, and it wasn't for her looks.Alpyna was introduced to one thing Dybowski never learned to do:Sound natural. Have an actual flow of real human talk, and be able to add levity.Dybowski's writing is incredibly - and fittingly - theatrical. Specifically, reflecting trends of late 19th and early 20th century Russian classic theatre.Which has its perks and benefits, but for the most part, sounds unnatural, and there is a BIG problem with characters having distinctive voices, something he just never got right. It also often sounds awkward in translation. Alpyna, unlike Nikolay, is bilingual, and she writes both Russian and English texts separately, which further makes things much better for non-russian speakers.
>>730624486I guess that is neat, probably aimed at freaks like me, but jokes on them:I have my CD copy of Pathologic 1 they used to sell in Albert for some fucking reason.
>>730623776>I SINCERELY doubt IPL paid him to praise the gameI liked anon's theory from the other thread>IPL are working on Darkwood 2, published by Hooded Horse>Mandalore works at Hooded Horse>Mandalore called in a favor with Sseth to pre-emptively generate interest for IPLBut that's getting a bit too close to e-drama, so you know VIDEOGAMES
>>730624570desu I'm used to films where characters talk like philosophers or stoically regardless of age so that never bothered me.
>>730624570>it wasn't for her looksRude!
>>730579590>Barges into your home >"You are too stupid to raise boys alone, we are raising them together in this house">"Also the sweater i made for you was blue because blue is the color of retards"what the fuck was her problem
Please don't make a new thread yet, give me some time to play the fucking game
>>730624908she's just being tsundere
>>730579398>only one image of her in the entire thread
hold on are you telling me i'm enjoying a game written by a w*man
>>730624802There might be some behind but I would not put much weight on it.Also, does Mandy work for Hooded horse, or is he simply collaborating with them? It's not the same thing, and I would probably see him straight up convincing to pick up publishing for P3 instead if that was his angle. He would be promoting a game by Hooded horse biggest competitor otherwise. It's not impossible, I don't think there is actual animosity between HH and Hypetrain but it would still be odd.>>730624891I have no idea what Alpyna looks like, actually, I meant that literally. She may be the loveliest lady in the world, but it is her fucking skill that got her the job. Specifcally, it was the Hopscotch Enthusiasts, and just her playing the role of Voronika that did, I believe, won him over.
>>730625039many such cases
>>730625039Anon has fallen.
>>730624908That sewing box tidbit is still probably my favorite piece of writing in all of Pathologic.
>>730625136Alphyna is very mid.
>>730625136>I have no idea what Alpyna looks like, actuallyCome to think of it this picture is probably 15 years old by now, but we all live in the past anyways.
>>730625039Writen by, but not directed by. And she is polishing up a story that already existed. It's not her characters, her lore, her town. She is trying to find the right voice for them, and probably has some other creative input too.But all of these characters and their basic stories did exist before her, P1 came out probably before she could even read.
>>730622902No, you just need to suppress the plague enough on the decree board to get to the next few days. Pretty sure you can ignore all the quests in a day so long as you do that, but I haven't tried yet.
taya footjob
where the fuck are the buried blueprints on day 2 I can't find them by the crowstone
>>730624261Back when you could buy a game off the shelf, go home, and realize it's translated by someone that doesn't actually know English.
>>730622902>So do you need to complete every quest line in the day before proceeding to the next day?No. The game is divided into sections. Early on your order is fixed. 1 is the prologue, then 5, then 3. You need to finish one specific quest (open the new Hospital) on Day 3 before you'll be allowed to switch to another day. After that, days 2-5 will be free for you to tackle as you wish, though the logical order is 3-4-5.You need to find a way to complete all of these days in a way that lowers the epidemic crisis bellow a certain threshold to avoid the city dying on day 6 to unlock the next part of the game, with access to more days beyond the first 5. Lowering the crisis is done primarily via decrees, most important being vaccination decrees, which require you to complete all diagnostic quests on days 3, 4, and 5.Also: remember that completing quests will lock that quest in place. You don't need to do everything in that day in one run, if you complete one quest - even a smaller one, and restart / revisit that day, the quest will stay completed, unless you manually mark it for rewriting (you can doing that by right-clincking on the quest-line in the morning of that day).So if you wasted most of day 3 on chasing Peter, as long as you completed that quest, that is fine, completed, you don't need to re-do it. Just restart the day and focus on different tasks and you'll get there.
>>730625915Buried behind it, you silly billy.
>>730625915Directly behind the big rock, under a branch. Not out in the open field. Just search its perimeter.
>>730625965>>730625973I was looking out by the fields and completely missed it, thank you anons
>Danil is stumbling through the street chain-smoking and taking morphine>muttering angrily to himself whenever he sees normal people>smashing mirrors on the side of the street>kicks a dumpster It's reminding me of the people I'd see when I lived in Philadelphia.
Fun fact:The inspector in P3 is the father of Voronika, the main character from the ARG. Her story was all about uncovering the story of his father and the conspiracy that once silenced him after he interviewed Daniil.
