I'm using crt-easymode filter on retroarch for all my retro games. 99% of crt filters look like absolute shit and overdo it extremely with the scanlines and really darken the picture which makes it look so much worse.

Knowing the analog CRT output would blend pixels/colors/etc. informed the input to some extent, even if it was initially plotted out on grid paper. Modern pixel art is created without such considerations, because modern screens are pixel-perfect.
