I’m sad /v/. I started playing FFVII on a CRT and it’s a vastly superior experience. It fucking sucks playing games like that on HDTVs. Will there ever be a CRT renaissance? Could they come back?

>>730587158Doing this on my Switch. Looks way better than the Switch port.I scaled up the internal res to the 720p equivalent to best match the Switch's screen. Then used Downsampling with the 3D+2D All setting, and it genuinely looks like the 3D models blend in with the pre-rendered backgrounds a lot of the time.The NTSC filter is also pretty great for that TV-screen feeling where the details are distorted enough to believe it's all in the same picture. But it doesn't run well on Switch, so just using a Lotte scanline setup is great too, and I have 300x speed on the L/R stick buttons so it's practically the same as the eShop port.Way comfier way of experiencing the game.
Play on 3DS for that 1:1 feel with looking far enough away from the screen to feel like it blends together. On a regular n3DS it looks very sharp and detailed. My picture doesn't do it justice because it creates those LCD patterns on the image.

i'm all for nostalgia but this looks like outdated dogshit. there can be graphics that are timeless but this is not one of them. the remake is better at everything from soul and evoking emotion to gameplay. it's only downside is being split into 3 games.

>>730587810The 3D models do look like they belong against the background in the PS1 version.The garbage modern HD ports don't blend because the shaders are broken, not because it's not on CRT. 3D models in the ports use basic phong shading, the same kind you see in work-in-progress 3D models in 3D applications, because that's all they had on PC in 1998, and that's the version all the current ports are based on.The fact that no one seems to notice this and even Square Enix uses screenshots from the PC version in official material makes me hate humanity. All philistines.
