Sigh, but 90% of it is garbage. Garbage that they throw together in a week. They admitted as much themselves in the self-indulgent 200th episode.

That is why Cartoon Network saw the show as a "success": It was incredibly cheap to make. Literally one of the first "slop" cartoons cause even the worst of the worst 80's/90's toy shows were at least animated traditionally.

The Nu-Battletoads devs(and a LOT of other mentally ill californians) thought it was the "writing" when it was just smart budgeting on a show that actually wasn't popular in the grand scheme of things.

The beat em up gameplay was really good actually. If it was a straight up arcade-style beat em up it would've been better, I don't think they should've done the genre-mixing thing for this one.
The grading system was fucking stupid though.
And the forced cutscenes. And the writing was obviously shit.

In DMC, you have a style meter that you watch go up or down based on how you fight but here, you just try not to get hit and hope the rank randomly goes up while you switch and button mash.

It's absolutely insane just how badly Microsoft and Rare have botched the golden opportunities they've had to revive older IPs, especially by giving them lots of classic-era wanking in crossovers/merch. Honestly though, Banjo Kazooie is the one better off for NOT getting a new game after its late 2010s-early 2020s blitz of attention though I still think it's bullshit that they didn't even rerelease the 360 ports of the first two games onto the Switch and instead just settled for shitty dripfed ROM dumps on NSO that massively missed the boat. Nuts n' Bolts was already a sad enough final entry to the series, imagine a Battletoads 2020-tier misfire.

I think its more that the designs are all worse. The Dark Queen being the worst offender, not only is she not hot her design is boring and ugly. The old design was hot; but more than that it was visually interesting. Replacing something interesting with something boring is pretty much the worst thing you can do in art design.

The arcade game was when they finally got all three toads on screen and differentiated them completely. It was my favorite game and they stopped making them after it, only to greenlight that bullshit in OP's picture. Zitz in particular was my favorite because he mostly got kidnapped in the other games or didn't have anything that distinguished him from the usual stock Battletoad design the early games used.

Come to think of it, Herc's Adventures was another LucasArts game that had a similar "it was fake" setup (though it was framed as a movie set and done as a post-ending bonus rather than BEING the ending). the actual plot twist was that aliens were the actual bad guys and Hades was just a robot they made..
