what makes it so good?
>>730612616parries are cool and people like abusing the top characters op stuff
>>730612616>it is fun>it is free>active playerbase on fightcade ( even though most of them are South Americans)>parries are cool to do>ost slaps>beautiful 2D art that is probably lost technology now everything about it is fucking cool besides maybe the balance. It is a shame SF3:OE didn't tackle that.
>>730612616It's nostalgic but overrated
>>730612616The game with the most amount of fake fans
>>730612616Best feeling fighting game, unobtrusive mechanics, exchanges are balanced and chains / combos aren't too long, each character feels unique to fight and play, beautiful artwork, amazing music. It's just a shame about the cast. I don't mind the newcomers, but I would much rather have the world warriors. Wish there was a version of SF3 with both the 3s cast and the Super Turbo cast.
>>730615418I wish I could play it but I only have wifi
>>730612616I was obsessed with it when I was a kid but I think it's a mixed bag. Once you get a grip on the game it becomes clear how fucked balance is. The game looks quite nice, though Double Impact has better stages. I appreciate the lack of Drive combo autism when I watch it or play it after having experienced SF6. I regret never getting into SF4.
>>730618354>Double ImpactNot sure how I managed that.
The mechanics of the game means that you can't spam the same blockstrings or mixups all day so offense and defense becomes this big "create-your-own" setup kind of thing. Focused more on what your opponent is thinking and what they think you're thinking. There's no counting frame data to perform "optimal blockstrings" that you repeat over and over or combos into safejump oki you loop all day.But also the game is just fast, the hits are satisfying and there's lots of different characters who focus on different things with varying degrees of combo execution, movement ability and ease of use. The music's good, the art is good and there's always somebody to play with. And it has everyone's favorite pint-sized gorilla tomboy.
>>730612616To most people it's the excellent sprites and music combined with how much the parry mechanic warps the entire nature of Street Fighter neutral and pressure around itself. Personally, I think the meter system where each SA has different length/stocks but EXs still cost the same amount no matter what is a much smarter and more interesting mechanic than parries but it screws itself by having very few characters where the choice of Super Art isn't clear (you'll never see Chun not pick SA2 or Ken not pick SA3, and non-Geneijin Yuns are rare as well). Also 2nd Impact's stages and UI are way better than 3S's, I think the visual budget got funneled into making the new characters even better-animated than 2I's roster.>>730618354>>730618632Double Impact was the name of the home port of New Gen & 2nd Impact on the same disc which is probably what you mind grabbed. Double Impact also lets you use different SAs in different rounds of the same game. Also yeah SF4 really was something of a phenomenon both to play and follow but hard to get into now due to the mediocre netcode and high execution barrier for relatively important things.
>>730619075>I think the visual budget got funneled into making the new characters even better-animated than 2I's roster.3s was famously a pretty rushed game. There's an interview out there that says most of the gameplay changes were made a week or two after the Japanese location test. I suspect this is why they made Sean bad on purpose. Quicker to make the overzealous newbie character crap than to balance all his tools which honestly would otherwise work pretty good with 3rd Strike's system.I think 2I's UI looks kind of crap and while the stages are mostly gorgeous, I feel like they've got a really strange atmosphere. The 3S stages have a more grounded atmosphere and their style fits the character sprites better I think. A lot of them are actually more detailed and pretty than you'd think but are they all have this kind of hazy color smeared all over them so they don't stand out too much. A good example of what I mean is that mod re:THIRD. I'm not saying it makes them all look outright better, but the detail is already there and a few color tweaks really makes them pop and feel more alive.www.youtube.com/watch?v=4THUKhm3CnE
>>730619923Ill never forgive them to never actually balance Alex moves at all. they ahd 3 fucking versions to improve him and they never did
>>730620160Took them like 3 or 4 seasons to make Alex any good in SFV too. Hopefully he's strong out of the gate in 6, I like the heel turn gimmick.
>>730612616Parrying killed the genre and the fighting genre killed arcades. Before 1991 (sf2's release) you could go into an arcade and there'd be dozens of different genres of games to play. After 1991, every arcade was lined wall to wall with SF2 ripoffs.People stopped going to arcades and they all died out. SF2 single handedly destroyed arcade gaming.
>>730620160It's really weird to me that you can't cr.hp launch into that anti-air knee. They got a whole system for flipping people around and doing suplexes based on that, but I can't follow up with the logical action.
>>730621485>It's really weird to me that you can't cr.hp launch into that anti-air knee.you can but only if you hit the second hit> They got a whole system for flipping people around and doing suplexes based on that, but I can't follow up with the logical action.I heard somewhere they had different programmers balancing the characters which is why you have his retarded super tight target combo that no one can do consistently while every single other character that has those can just cancel into them easily. Or why his SA2 grab animation plays out even if you don't hit it but ken's sa3 doesn't
>>730615418I don't even think it's that badly balanced to begin with, obviously no one likes fighting against chun but basically everyone except sean and twelve have meaningful reasons to want to play them. Its way fucking better than garbage like mai in sf6.
>>730612616The sprite art and animations
>>730620160He's really close, he just needs something like a feint or something that makes it viable for him to hit flash chop outside of GIANT punish scenarios. It's really weird he doesn't have that since he was obviously designed around using his special moves in tandem with flash chop, and other characters have feints or use certain attacks like a command dash where you don't follow through with the attack.Outside of him being crap in the greater scheme of things, he does at least achieve his goal of being an excellent beginner/introductory character to 3rd Strike. His gameplan is simple and focused on stray hits, big punishes, and mixing up grabs/overhead. He's even got a move dedicated to encourage players to use an opponent's parry attempt against them.
>>730623290>He's really close, he just needs something like a feint or something that makes it viable for him to hit flash chop outside of GIANT punish scenarios.they could have allowed him to cancel from lp chop (i think he is the lonly character that cant do shit like this for some reason), let forward fierce to be sa cancellable or linkable (you can link it in certain scenarios like pic related), or make his dash move turn the opponent around for a few frame to cancel his super.
>>730618904My favorite character, shame they never use her on modern games.
>>730622349>sean and twelve have meaningful reasons to want to play themEven they've got reasons to want to play them, just not competitively. Despite being shit, they're genuinely fun and interesting characters with unique options and tool kits, which is extremely UNLIKE SF6. I swear, almost every character in that game does the same thing. Just different flavors of meaty throw, canned mixups, and doing the same blockstrings/same safejump oki all day and all night.Who was the faggot at Capcom that decided they needed to remove throw invuln all the way back in Street Fighter IV? Was it Ono? Every god damn fighting game after SF2 added throw invuln on wakeup or after blocking an attack and some genius decided that needed to get rid of it. That man needs to be shot.
>>730612616What's the second best and still active Street Fighter game?
>>730623290>>730623420wrong clip>>730623470she was in SF4 though but there is no way she will ever be as good as she was in third strike, she is pretty broken there for a myriad of reasons
>>730623701Hyper Fighting is my favorite SF game in general.
>>730623701these are the most active games on fightcade as of this secondthere are probably people still playing 4 or 5 as well
>>730623420>dash move turn the opponent around for a few frame to cancel his superYeah, I'd make the light version cause backturn so you could at least combo it into Hyper Bomb. Probably make it combo from something too. I think 6HP is fine as it is though. It's not really meant to be a combo tool and doesn't need to be, outside of the funny circumstances you can make that work.
>>730623853should be all of them since aside from light dash the others are all unsafe on block
>>730623713That was so long ago, I'm hoping she makes a return on 6 since they pulled Elena out of thin air, but I'm not holding my breath.
>>730612616Good skill based gameplay and no real bullshit outside of a few instances Also it's got a good presentation
>>730623470>>730623713>>730623932I don't know why you guys would even want to see her or any character you like in a new game. She's going to be a shitty, watered-down or outright unrecognizable version of their former self. Dead things should stay dead. Especially Bison. Why the FUCK did they feel like they needed to bring back Bison?????
Nothing. Go play SF6 you unsufferable faggot.
easily the best looking street fighter, smooth af. Extremely fun to play
>>730624150why wouldn't they? he is the only baddie the franchise truly has
>It's a "the parry was actually just an OS episode"Why is it always reruns?
>>730624865People call 3rd Strike "OS city" then go play bullshit like SF4.
Would be perfect with Cammy
>>730626947Wasn't 3S Online Edition going to have Sagat and/or Cammy added alongside an optional balance change but that got scrapped when ST HDR's rebalance was shit on? Still pissed about that.
>Play SF6 for an hour>Nothing but Juri, Aki, and AkumaJesus. I haven't played for a few months so I still had a decent time despite having trouble with Aki in general, but I know I had more variety the last time I played. Maybe it was just a fluke.
>>730627781You definitely should be seeing more Ryu & Ken at the very least.
>>730627868Could be. I'm only in Gold so that may make a difference, but I was the only Ryu in any of these matches.
>>730615418>It is a shame SF3:OE didn't tackle that. That doesn't matter because it would neither be in Japanese game centers nor be pirated on fightcade and therefore nobody would play it.>>730619075As far as I know 3S has static backgrounds to save ROM space for more characters, which is also why some animations are cut from 2I like Dudley's weird Thunderbolt. But it isn't at the absolute limit of CPS3 ROM size so I can't say that for sure.
>>730626947What's Cammy's best iteration? I really can't tell because I feel like she's only been in shitty games. >SFIIObviously the bog standard. I personally like Cammy in this game, but coming back to her after playing all the other SFs, she just feels lacking.>Alpha 3 Fun design, but the groove system means you ultimately have to sacrifice a part of her kit>4Can't say because I never really played this game>VHonestly my favorite design, she feels super smooth. The only thing she needs is the paint on her legs>6Probably her best iteration. The charged moves add SO much variety to her kit. I really love it, it's a shame she's stuck in the worst fighting game ever made.
>>730612616>>730615418Can you do training mode on fightcade? I think I downloaded it once but couldn't figure out how.Used to play this game on PS2 the 15th Anniversary Edition with this and HSFII. Was fun. I do like USFIV more since it has a better roster and Gief but 3S Akuma was killer and Dudley felt better in 3S as well.
>>730615418god i wish i could be good at parries
>>730612616>basically recreate 3rd Strike gameplay>completely bombsWhat did SNK mean by this?
>>730619075>or Ken not pick SA3wrong, all 3 of ken's super arts are perfectly viable and you will see people pick them regularly, especially because everyone expects and is trained around playing against and anticipating jinrais
>>730628553CotW is literally MotW with more mechanics stapled to it, similarity to 3S is no greater than MotW's similarity.
>>730627005>Wasn't 3S Online Edition going to have SagatThat comes from an ancient interview where one of the questions asked were "if you could add another legacy character to 3rd Strike, who would it be?" the answer being Sagat. Which is kind of a weird choice if you think it through since Remy is basically Guile and Sagat rolled into the same character.A rebalanced 3rd Strike could have been interesting I guess but it also could've been shit. At the time 3SOE was coming out, if I had to choose either a sketchy rebalance OR a proper port of the game then I'm taking the latter. Worry about that other shit once you've got a half-decent way to play the game you're porting on anything other than genuine arcade hardware.
>>730612616parrying feels good to do. it's fun, the sound is satisfying, you often get to do some cool shit after it, and tapping forward to parry is the best implementation of parry in a fighting game
>>730612616>what makes it so good?Nothing mechanical. In fact, only allowing a single super to be equipped is a massive downgrade.
>>7306154182nd Impact looked so much better--it's weird. It also had the best ost.
>>730623815all this tells me is that fightcade players have shit taste
>>730628553I wanted to like this but the game looks so fucking ugly. Im sorry Hotaru and mare ass Chun Li.
>>730628965Yeah the ost is really goodhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T5qfryTQdvg&list=PLhPt7n-ALrSAQLu8sZWhor9dSfBp2OKuf&index=5&pp=iAQB8AUB
>>730620160I hate 3rd Strike because Capcom changed Sean. Even his new voice is trash.
>>730628923Allowing the choice between supers to matter due to matchup or playstyle and balancing supers around this with the length/stocks of the meters and thus how often them and EX moves can be done is the best mechanical choice in the entire game though. The balancing of the supers themselves could've used another pass (some supers are too strong or too weak for the bars they're given) and the amount of meter an EX will need could've been a bit more clear when glancing down at your bar but it's a great system. I even like how Akuma's SAs uniquely have identical bars to make sure Demon & KKZ aren't better or worse in any given choice.
>>730629531Anon, there's a reason the system has never been visited again and that's because it was a bad idea.
>>730629621Every SF has had a completely different system regardless of quality, even the Alpha games vary drastically between each other. Later games have all had secondary meters that matter as much or more than Super meter and have been where pre-game choice was placed in revisions (Ultra 2, VT2). 6's entire system is incompatible due to EXs using Drive instead of Super meter which is probably why everybody has three supers for the first time since Alpha.
The gameplay is really... kinetic. It's not slow and wiggle-y like the modern games.
>>730629882>Every SF has had a completely different system regardless of qualityIt's obvious that SF3 meter system is SSF2T's with more options, so I wouldn't say every game is completely different in this regard.
>>730630054>SF3 meter system is SSF2T's with more optionsEven in New Gen before EX moves were introduced the fact that you had multiple supers to pick from, differing lengths, multiple stocks, and most importantly the way you build meter being significantly different due to whiffing normals building it all make it pretty significantly different. I'd argue SFV's super meter is closer to SF2's since it's just the one bar you spend all of to use your super even if it also has three chunks that each can be used on an EX; all the extra shit was dumped into the V-System.
Street Fighter was better before supers.
>>730630424>the way you build meter being significantly different due to whiffing normals building it all make it pretty significantly different.but that's literally how it worked from ssf2t and onwards? what the fuck do you even fucking THINK you're talking about, retard?
>>730630424You've got to keep in mind that SF3 was being worked on in parallel to other Street Fighter entries, as well as spinoffs like the crossover games and others like Dark Stalkers. It all comes back to my original point that the use of a single super is a downgrade. This could have been remedied 3rd Strike as it was something that existed in other Street Fighter games at that point in time, but Capcom didn't. I sometimes dream a 4th edition of SF3 with new balance and character with all their supers accessible at everyone's fingertips.
