You can have several motivators during a story. Finding out more about the situation or setting is usually a valid plotpoint, thats why there are usually main chapter objectives like "visit the four nations"Errant Knights, Paladins, Monks, "Heroes" etc are encouraged by their own profession to seek adventure and help random people. I think even Dragon Quest 1 the King fucking comments on your level and how ready you were/are to save the princess
