Playing from the start of EA you feel the direction they wanted to take the game in and actually went in with the content updates but at some point along the way they changed their mind or didn't feel as confident in the original vision and tried to pivot. The problem is that all the story content up until that point was working towards something completely different. So, unless they redid the existing story (and voice work) and some of the existing levels/bosses, they would have to half-ass the story to get the existing content to somehow work.

The greek god stories were all about emotion, passion, jealously, etc. That doesn't mean they're not full of love and compassion too, though. The gods in Hades 1 are all working under the presumption that they're screwing over Hades, but they're also doing that because they love Zangreus and want to meet him.
