The point of localization is to make it understandable for other audiences when a translation can't be literal, such as regional in-jokes or something that literally nobody would understand if they did not live in the location the joke, phrase, or idiom is from. Of course, the people who are hired to localize can't even do that right, so they just look up the hip new terms and phrases from Reddit or Blusky to use as filler. All it takes is to cut out the localizers entirely and have the translators' direct translations be used, and either the game's instruction manual (pfft hahaha) or credits have translation notes to explain small things that might've seemed weird. This would encourage replayability as well, since you'd learn why a phrase was used.In real life, you could come across some old people who use a phrase you're not used to. Let's say the phrase is "Catching a cow by it's udder". What the fuck does that mean? To the player, it'd just sound like comparing something to a cow, and it wouldn't make sense. Later, when they find out that (for this example), the meaning was "catching a thief when he has too much evidence on him". In the context of whatever game this would be from, it'd be a big hint that someone nearby who got a bit too lucky was the perpetrator, or at least someone who can be used as a guide to the real criminal.
