How many games does this actually apply to?

the ones in that image.

It does seem to be a pretty common thing in beat 'em ups. SoR4 also had a pretty gaudy last stage (although the final battle itself was outside), and Final Vendetta's last stage was a mansion (albeit run down/abandoned).
I guess it's because wealth and abundance are a good way to represent power.

Street Fighter II, Knights of the Round, just off the top of my head

I'm struggling to think of any. Usually they follow these rules:
>some long-ass castle or dungeon similar to the previous ones, if this is a platformer, contains a fuckton of spikes and bottomless spikes
>probably fire/lava involved somewhere as is customary for the last world
>if not fire world, then somewhere in the sky/deep underground/another dimension
>collapsing floor to make it more difficult
>may or may not involve escape sequence
>stand-alone, may not have a level associated at all
>has some sort of "true form" that emerges around a third of the way in

Makes sense and was cool in those classic beat 'em ups. You would expect a criminal organization or gang to be in luxury the higher up you go. These games often had simple stories.

Every beat em up

>X-Kaliber seems to follow this

Rollergames comes to mind immediately.

Yeah, I think this is from movies. A lot of the time the Big Bad was some rich prick, and protags were working-class underdogs.

>game is about beating up a lot of henchmen
>naturally the guy who hired them probably has money
>you go into his house to fight him because who else would be the final boss
>it's really nice because he has money
i mean it's just to be expected

Is there any beat'em-up where the final boss is some rich bastard in his mansion that attacks by literally throwing money at you?
