I get it. We all do. Nazis are bad, they did some bad things, and Hitler was an ass. But why are they such a common enemy in videogames? Why not the communist forces that killed over 20 million people during/after world war 2? Or the Mongolians that raped so many of the women they conqured, a good amount of Asia has some Mongolian DNA? With so many historical options (Some even rivaling the methods of the nazis themselves) why are nazis such a common antagonist trope?
>>730627965>Nazis are badAre they though?
>it's just like animal farmHave you ever read or listened to a Hitler speech in English?
>>730627965>Why not the communist forces that killed over 20 million people during/after world war 2?Because they were on the Allied side
>>730627965Haha, yeah. We do all hate them. Didn’t know how to finish a fucking job for one thing.
>>730628281How many did he make in English? I thought they were predominantly in German.
Name some games, because aside from Wolf, I can't actually think of any major ones.

>>730628648Considering they were set in WW2 that kinda adds up they are villains
>>730628549Indiana Jones, Sniper elite, Call of duty, Medal of Honor, Company of Heroes, Wolfenstein, etc. It's a pretty common shooter trope.

I mean BF5 had a German tank mission right? It's not like it has only been one side, but yes it's mostly lop-sided.
>>730627965Essentially, Nazis are the big baddies because they were the ones that the United States teamed up against. Obviously, Allied propaganda has documented and emphasized all their injustices way more relative to the Communists, so Nazis are just more relevant to the zeitgeist in most of the Western world. For the longest time, especially in America, the defeat of the Nazis in 1945 and the beginning of the post-war baby boom all the way through to 2001, it felt like history had ended and liberal democracy was succeeding, so there was a point of pride in taking down big, bad Nazi Germany when the time came, especially after the Communist USSR failed as well. They're also way more aesthetic and interesting, especially since they documented themselves so much.
>>730627965Communists are protected because we falsely treated the Soviet Union as allies in WWII and more often than not fell for their maskirovka operations in the pre war years and the aftermath. And the extent of the deception goes much further than this book will ever let on. It effected key western misinterpretations of what was happening in the Soviet Union after WWII and hence historians have written up make believe history about the soviets which was and still is ongoing propaganda. I don't take the same view that /pol/ does. My view is that most of WWII was glorified soviet invasions with the belief that liberation of nazi occupation were real liberations when they weren't.
