The game ends when he stops Alvin, plenty of time to talk about it in the month or two between W1 and W2. When it comes to W2 Shani and Geralt split before it begins, we start in a siege, then immediately get blamed for Foltest's death, then spend the rest of the game fucking around to clear our name and stop things. Then Geralt and Triss split so he can find Yennefer and Ciri.All that said, yeah W1 is kind of weird. It was a weird mix of doing their own thing with the property and also somehow trying to make it a sequel. Its why there is stuff like Alvin clearly being Ciri, there even being someone who tells the stories of the books but uses no names. Why the Professor is around. Berengar was supposed to be the playable character in early dev too. All of that coming together means 1 isn't strongly canon.

I always need a refresher every 5 years or I'm lost again. Last thing i remember was 3's story. What makes thing worse is that it's not novel/book accurate so there's all of these conflicting stories that CDPR misunderstood the events in the lore completely. So I've just stopped caring. At the start i was really on board with it being a well written/deep multi layered story and now that there's novel nitpicking I'm off board.
Am I crazy if I thought Jacques was more interesting than Ciri? W1 and 2 felt like they were going somewhere, wish W3 didn't realign back to the novels.

Yeah the Witcher 1's plot was totally crazy. I mean, if you come out and say that a young boy you saved ended up using Source to travel through time wherein he discovered the future is a barren frozen death-world ala Arx Fatalis and he then spent his whole life desperately trying to find a way for mankind to survive the coming apocalypse which involved building Eternal Fire Vault and an army of super-mutants to guard it, who the fuck WOULD believe your story? Not even Dandelion is that imaginative. Witcher 1 also codified the White Frost as some kind of magical apocalypse where in the books it was a passing remark about the seasons had been getting colder, the old drunk probably wrote it while listening to the news talk about climate change and the White Frost was simply him being hip & socially relevant.

What was the story beats (more directly lore wise) CDPR got wrong again? wasn't it the Conjunction of Spheres or something? i forgot. But it was a big background story beat. When i read something like this online i gave up and just concluded i didn't know what the fuck was happening anymore. Maybe it was the white frost? i don't know but it's one of those big ones. The reason why Witcher has one of the better stories in RPGs is because it's based off actual books and tried to go as close as possible. But apparently they also shot themselves in the foot.
