Indie dev here. What mechanic have you never seen in a game but want so badly? I want my game to sell well and I want you faggots to enjoy it. It's an action adventure fantasy game.
>>730629958Heterosexual marriage and procreation
Ability to stick your leg out to trip NPCs
>>730629958I'm a professional and could easily make a kino game if I was directing it, I can't speak for the sales since I refuse to pander to gamers without skill. I need a team of nerds to make the game while I tell them what to do.
>>730629958A morality system done correctly so you can't do genocide and then donate some food and be absolved.
>>730629958Rape. Full control, you have to pin them down, perhaps coerce them or bribe them. And not AA2 garbage like "oh okay you're raping them" but its just the same sex scene controls as normal sex but she's sad. I also don't want it to be a porn game. I just want a normal game where you can rape.
>>730630034This, but without procreation because babies are faggots. I want a fat titted infertile Japanese nympho wife.

NothingMechanics are meaningless without context and I don't need novelty to be entertainedFocus on making a good fucking game, don't worry about whether what you're doing has been done before
>>730631254>Mechanics are meaningless without contextWrong. Super Mario Bros didn't need a context. Interesting gameplay is interesting gameplay.
>>730631110I don't have a trillion dollar budget...
>>730631976the super mario run and jump mechanics would have been retarded and superfluous in an on rails lightgun gameeven in mario bros itself, you could keep the same mechanics and genre but the game would have sucked if every level was as easy as 1-1 and there was no change in level varietyThe levels themselves are the context. A game having a mechanic doesn't matter, the interesting part is how and how much a game uses a mechanic
>>730632383Yeah, that i can agree with. I misinterpreted the post and thought you were speaking in a plotfag sense but you're right. Good execution matters just as much as a good idea.
>>730629958My forever dream is an RPG where the game encourages you to have multiple different characters and when you’re not playing one of them, they become an NPC and you can bump into them in the world, trade with them, party up and so on - similar to GTAV but more fleshed out. They retain the gear/progression you’d made with them on their file and any extra you make with them as an NPC, then when you switch back to them you get a sort-of recap like when your Pawns return from the rift in Dragon’s Dogma. A more advanced version of this could also be a game with an in-game calendar and on, let’s say, Wednesday of that week (in-game) you slay a dragon with Character 1 and it disrupts something in the world. Then you switch to Character 2 who is currently on Monday of that week, so you play a while and then on Wednesday they can cross paths with Character 1 on his way to slay the dragon or, something C2 is doing is interrupted because they’ve just hit the point in the calendar where C1 has slayed the dragon and now X event happening because of it. Could be a cool way to experience the fallout of your own decisions through someone else’s eyes.
RETROPIXELPLATFORMER
>>730631976 True, but even Mario had tight level design to complement its mechanics. The jumping *feels* good because of how it's implemented, not just 'cause it's jumping. Otherwise every shovelware platformer would be kino. Mechanics still need synergy with pacing, challenge, and feedback, or you end up with jank that sounds cool on paper and sucks in practice-looking at you, every indie that adds bullet time for no reason.
