Do arcades still exist or they a relic of the past?
>>730630018my local arcade closed so i'm stuck with a bunch of clown coins, can't think of much else to do with them other than try to scam vending machines
Most arcades that exist these days are either shoddy shit in the few remaining shopping malls, Dave & Busters which is almost entirely phone games on big screens, or bar-cades full of retro games.
Round 1 has somewhat revived them, for rhythm game nerds at least

There's an import arcade thats like 15 minutes from my house
>>730630018The asian own laundry place in a heavily mexican populated neighbor still have Metal Slug and KoF for over 20 years now. Does that count?
Home gaming won
Go to Jersey Shore, they got more arcades than a Japanese street
>>730630018Arcades don't exist anymore because their one leverage over consoles, being more powerful, stopped existing at the turn of the century, or at least at a more economical level, e.g. arcade-accurate ports on sixth/seventh gen consoles vs the eyewatering price of the Neo Geo in the early 90s.Right now the market is shit like >>730632867 that are basically just entertainment centers that sell beer to adults and sometimes have some shit for people with disposable income like Round1 having Chainsaw Man or Metaphor merch.
>>730630018They're either enthusiast spots full of classic games with the occasional semi-modern Japanese import (see: Round 1) or family-friendly play areas in malls that mostly rely on physical gimmicks, VR, or giant screens these days (see: Dave & Busters). I visited Tokyo last year and outside of those two there's also plenty of spots with nothing but Rhythm games, Gundam Versus and/or gambling machines with maybe one exception snuck in there (from what I saw usually Mario Kart but I found a Goldstorm Pirates cab which was based). My local mall has an arcade with Time Crisis 4, World's Largest Pac-Man, one of those multi-cabs with a bunch of old Namco games, Dead Heat Riders, and that SEGA Transformers rail shooter based on the Bay movies. It's not half-bad.

>Cyberpunk got an arcade game LAST YEARWeird.
>>730630018I went to an arcade last night in my dream and it was full of trannies so I went back home
>>730630018arcades, arcade games, and arcade game design are all cancer
>>730635913Having that opinion makes you the cancer actually
>>730630018>when your arcade score is so big the input changes to letters
>>730634596>because their one leverage over consoles, being more powerfulNo, their two leverages are power over consoles and being able to have large or unusual control schemes that aren't really plausible on consoles. Rhythm games and racers are covered by the second one and that's why they're still kicking.
>>730638436>Rhythm games and racers are covered by the second one and that's why they're still kicking.Rail Shooters too. Light guns are shockingly resilient despite their fall from prominence; House of the Dead & Time Crisis are still alive (plus Deadstorm Pirates got a sequel somehow) and there's a new licensed light gun game every few months or so based on a major film or console vidya IP (Resident Evil, Contra, Cyberpunk, Tomb Raider, fucking Luigi's Mansion)
>>730635913Not in a world where mobile gaming exists.>>730634596>>730638436The other leverage that arcades have over consoles is that it is a public third space where a community is built around you and other people who enjoy playing the games. It is also a wonderful sensory overload as dozens of games are all being played at full volume and surround you. In general, you can't get a crowd in your house, and you can't have twenty screens displaying twenty games in your house. That's something that is lost when you play in isolation at home.
Bring back pixel art.

>>730630018only in western countries where you have to drive everywhere to get anywherepopulated cities with very easy and mulitple modes of commute are still bustling with arcadesas for arcade games, they are another matter. there are fewer and fewer new arcade game releases every year and its turning to focus on card games and prize gameseven Tekken skipped the arcade and went directly to consoles and pc (thats why its shit)
I'm lucky i guess, my town has the best arcade in all of bongland. You pay entry, all the machines are free-use, no kids on Fridays, open until midnight and the food+beer is cheap. I spoke with the guy who set it up when he first opened a few years back now, at the time it was 1 floor in an old mill, full of classic cabinets. Now it's 4 floors with an import room, pinball room, the classics, modern, lightgun and racing cabinets, a bullet hell room, and some other stuff I forgot.https://www.arcadeclub.co.uk/ if any bongs are interested you can see their 'catalogue' too.
Always wanted to try one of these things. They seem relatively common so I'm sure I will.>>730640996Finally, a reason to visit Bongland.
