Truth be told, as much as I enjoy them, turn-based combat mechanics have barely evolved from the beginning and are becoming archaic at this point. This game's approach to combat was extremely refreshing.
Turn based combat has evolved plenty, we just call it different things once it's evolved past a certain point.
