Talk me out of getting an OLED gaming monitor, /v/. They're so fucking expensive. The cheapest ones I can find around me are $700-$800, and I'd rather not order one online.

Ah, I used a shitty opening image. This one is better.

You won't notice much of a difference.
>>
Just wait for a 2000 zone mini led
>>
>>730643907
theyre a must own nowadays. but you can also get an oled tv/laptop and get 2 birds with 1 stone if you have need for one of those.
>>
>>730643907
Get an lg c2 or c3 and have it double as your tv and get a nice swivel mount for it
>>
>>730643907
Why would I talk you out of it, literally all good monitors are OLED nowadays, they don't even make good IPS monitors anymore
>>
>>730643907
If it's not RGB then don't bother.

*burns in*

>looked into OLED monitors
>cheapest were $800 like 5 years ago and that was still with mixed reviews
>still the same price and probably the same reviews
kek just been using my IPS for 8 years at this point

>I'd rather not order one online
Why not? I don't have a PC, but I wanted to convert to using a monitor rather than a fuckhuge television for space and performance/quality. I went with the ASUS ROG Strix 27" (XG27AQDMG). It was like $550. Had it a few months now, no complaints.
Not sure where people are getting $800 price tags from, unless you're talking about 30"-40" screen sizes. 27" is already ridiculous when you're sitting in a chair right infront of it. If you're planning on leaning back or sitting a good bit away, then you want a TV, or a curved monitor/dual setup.
>tl;dr
Just buy one you stupid nigger. Stop overthinking it. Look at the last "generation" models and order it online like a normal person you fucking lunatic. Have it saved for pickup at a store or held at a UPS/Fedex store.
>>
>>730643907
lol wut I bought pretty much that same one last year for like 300 bux
>>
>>730643907
OLEDs slowly get dimmer over time as you use them. It's fine if you replace your monitor after several years but if you keep your monitor for longer than that then it's not worth it.
>>
Don't do it. I got one and now my second monitor looks awful. It looks so good that it just ruins things for you.
>>
>>730643907
Pulsar is the new hot shit, OLED is redundant
>>
>>730643907
I don't care what bad choices you make with your money. It's your bed that you get to sleep in.
>>
>>730644607
I got one but 30% brightness is bright enough for me
It should last at least 5 years

Motion clarity is meme
Motion blur is a normal thing we all see and trying to eradicate it from monitors just makes it look jarring

I wonder if this will come to OLED panels. Might be worth waiting

I have v/gsync always disabled
So I dont need this new gimmick either
>>
>>730643907
why would you buy a more expensive monitor just to make text look worse and to babysit?
>>
>>730645024
Frames are boomer jewtraps. Wastes of space, heavy and obnoxious, literally only used at night. It's literally the foid of furniture. Nice ornate wood is better used on actually useful furniture.

I use my computer for games and movies, not reading books

black already looks very black on my IPS monitor
I think oled black levels are a meme for normalfags who play nothing but horror games and movies

hey bros i have a question, if i have a high refresh rate monitor like 144hz does running my monitor on higher refresh rate make thing better if all the games i play are pretty much locked to 60fps?
i have heard higher refresh rate only makes a difference if the game also run at higher fps.
>>
>>730643907
ips monitor and oled tv is the way

You won't notice a difference compared to a high quality IPS in terms of contrast. Latency either. What you might notice is motion clarity at extremely high framerates, but that's only if you're an autist that want's to run old games at 360hz with real frames (like me).
Newer games don't really benefit from an OLED and all the shills saying that ugly washed out modern games are magically fixed with HDR on an OLED are liars, they look just as shit as they did on my old IPS.

Also something to note it that text looks fucked up on a 1440p OLED because Windows wasn't designed for an OLED's subpixel layout.

Also don't bother with the latest greatest, pic related was over £900 when I bought it, but went down by 50% in a year.
I bought it for DD2, I'm still made about that game.

Your taskbar will get burnt into the screen.

literally no difference for games. it's like normalfags who by 4k TVs when everything's still output in 720p at best lol.

>pc GAWD
Lossless Scaling now kind of changes that. If it's not a super high reaction-based game, you probably won't mind a bit of ghosting to get 2x framerate out of a game up to 120fps. LS works with Youtube iirc, so any game, or generally most media on your screen will get booostu'd. Does resolution also. Also your WIndows/general PC use will run at 144hz so that's pretty nice.
>>
>>730645514
that's not true on newer oleds also you can just hide your taskbar dumbass
>>
>>730645363
less jittery since it doesn't have to wait as long if a frame is late
>>
>>730645550
I think I'll just get a monitor which doesn't fuck my ux thanks
>>
>>730643907
>>730643943
things gonna get nasty in a few years
my IPS still has the same quality it had 6 years ago
difference aint as big as the comparison makes you think
>>
>>730645532
most of my time is spent playing arcade games (fightcade) windows mouse does feel better but i still lock my monitor to 60hz, because one time i played the game i usually play on 144hz i couldn't see any difference, and fightcade now also has option to play the game on original refresh rate instead of locking to 60hz, so i am not even sure if its worth the power.
will check out lossless scaling, didn't even know something like this existed.
>>
>>730643907
Not worth it for gaming. You truly won't notice a difference. OLED shills are just the new Audiophiles
>>
>>730645734
I'd figure most fighting game shit is standardized so maybe you'd want to stay locked to 60fps anyways for competitive purposes.

But yeah your screen at 144hz is I figure using essentially double power, since it's refreshing 144 times a second, vs 60, while the game and gpu are displaying only 60 frames in a second.

It's a real beauty to play something at 144 vs 60 though. Everything actually starts looking life-like in terms of motion.
>>
>>730645972
yeah definitely, screen feels really smooth, the only game i got to play with higher refresh rate was assassin's creed syndicate, it was cool but i dropped it, not really my thing, other games that support higher refresh rate, i am scared to play them on higher than 60 fps, (i play on gamin laptop)
>>
>>730646068
Yeah on a laptop that you're not too confident in, i'd avoid it for the sake of components not overheating jej
>>
>>730643907
Yeah, if you can get a good deal on one with good specs like your image, and by the time it shits the bed you can either RMA with the 3 year warranty they all usually provide or possibly grab a microLED since that shit's on the horizon and might be out by then.

Will risk of burn in ever be fully eliminated from OLED displays?
>>
>>730646845
Probably not, but in the future we'll have microLED screens so it won't matter. OLEDs are the Plasmas of the 2020s.
>>
>>730644729
OLED shills hated him for telling the truth
