I almost never play high-end games so I just found out my GPU has crazy coil whine like a year after buying it
>>
Btw, the game that did it? A fucking Taiko no Tatsujin simulator. So I'm still on my streak of never playing AAA games btw
>>
That's OK, generally GPUs come with generous multi-year warranties
>>
>>730647065
I got that shit on eBay vro you think I'm EVER paying MSRP?
>>
What the heck is coil whine?
>>
>>730647129
When the GPU makes a weird high-pitched sound that changes depending on what you're doing in-game, it's wild
It's basically harmless I think and I wear headphones so it's basically just gonna be a mild annoyance to me
>>
Pee on it for lubrication.
>>
That's kinda hot

Happens more often than you think, and with more devices than just GPUs too. Heck the remote access point in my living room drives me nuts sometimes, even though it's supposed to be made by a reputable American brand. That's what you get with cheap components for capacitors, manufacturing QC being crap, etc. Welcome to the modern age. Can't remember coil whine being such a nuisance 10-15 years ago.

Wear headphones and try not to let it get to you. Even if you do get it RMA'd, good chance the replacement has it too. I've pretty much learned to just deal with it.

Supposedly you can improve it yourself by adding extra isolation to the circuit board but I'm not about to break warranty and do that.

Let me guess, you're letting it run at 2000 FPS?
>>
>>730648963
It's some Japanese shit and none of the settings make sense I have no idea what it's doing. Only coil whines in the menus when not previewing a song
>>
>>730649117
limit the framerate to something sensible like 60, 120 or 200 fps
any card whill whine at thousands of fps
>>
>>730649175
My old cards never whined even when accidentally running Touhou 6 at 1000fps
>>
>>730649267
The cards or your cpu were not fast enough to reach the whine level

>Have to dial gpu fans down to dangerously low levels in order to not get annoyed by the noise they make
It's over for me.
>>
>>730649340
Have you considered replacing fans?

My new monitor has a dead pixel but I don't know if it's worth all the hassle of sending it back to Amazon
What do I do anons?
>>
>>730649452
The actual GPU fans? No I haven't, didn't realise you could do that and the GPU has always been loud since I boughted it, I run the fans at like 20% because the noise is too irritating for me.
>>
>>730649494
google fix dead pixel
if that doesn't work we can reconvene
>>
>>730649775
what's the hotspot delta
>>
>>730649889
I tried one of those pixel scrambling pages but that didn't work
I have only noticed the dead pixel twice naturally after using the monitor for a month, it's like off center on one side but not shoved into a corner where I'll never see it
Why can't I just be sent things without fucking problems

I had a really powerful card that had coil whine when playing a shitty browser 3D game.
It went away when I forced vsync manually.
If it's an Nvidia card you can force vsync on the options, you just have to select the game/exe itself

I'm a brainlet so dunno what delta means but the hotspot doesn't go above 95C on my current settings
>>
>>730650461
delta means difference between two numbers
subtract gpu temp from hotspot
if the difference is over 20 degrees repaste the card
