When did you realize that achimenes are pointless?

When i didn't lose my virginity in my teens

when achievements whores started ruining my multiplayer games by teaming up with enemies for the express purpose of getting them

I can't play games without achievements. That's why i use retroachievements

nta but collaborating in a competitive game is inherently antithetical to what is supposed to be the fun part

Wrong, achimenes are beautiful, just look at this color
>>
I always knew they were pointless, but I liked the sound they made on the 360 and some of the fun names.

Cheevos on any other platform have always just felt fucking stupid. Trophies made a gay noise, steam cheevos are just plain gay.

Why do cheevs make so many people seethe, i saw some people demand cheevs on forgotten realms and a pletora of trannies put down the rope they were about to hang themselves with to sperg about it
>>
>>730649297
back in the day (you know, then achievements first came out), there was no casual. it was just matchmaking or player lobbies and you couldn't get achievements in player lobbies. so naturally all these niggers shit up matchmaking

A lot of achievements are literally just milestones for the dev to use

I like cheevs because they help expose astroturfed games no one finishes, for instance death stranding has 11 structures that you can build and upgrade but you only get the last one mid game, the achievement for that is around 4% this is proof that the people who bought this piece of shit never went midway through let alone finished it.

To illustrate, Sekiro the game that made journalist hang their grandfather by the balls has 20% on the final boss, 20% of the players beat him while barely 4% of the players in reddit stranding went further than the prologue

A monetized video essay.

when I started pirating games instead of buying them
>>
>>730649082
I think playing a couple jrpgs with missables as achievements did it for me personally, it has been a while. I used to be pretty consistent at throwing myself at the stuff if it was something I could aim for on a first playthrough.
I think it was specifically trails of cold steel with the multiple "romance x character" and trying and failing to get the best student rank or whatever which needed all the sidequests done and I missed one somehow.
After that sloppy incident I realized I wasn't having fun doing it because I felt like I needed to pull up a guide to be doing it, and that's lame.
So now I just do achievements if I think they present a fun way to enjoy the game, and maybe if the game is worth replaying for them.

>pointless
They provide feedback for devs and often extended goals for player.
You should grow up and let go of that childish mindset that something YOU don't like is bad or pointless for everyone else.
>but there are also shitty achievements, extremely grindy ones, online achievements for games with dead online servers etc.
Yes. Nothing's prefect.
Still doesn't mean they are pointless.
>>
>>730650295
nobody will ever care about your pixelated achievements anon-kun
>>
>>730650375
Why would I give a fuck about some rando tards caring?
Did you even read the post?
If I like the game, instead of running through it for 5th time but this time with blue hat on, I'd rather clear up cheevos.
>>
>>730650463
>instead of just having fun, I'd rather tick random arbitrary boxes set by the developer
just say you need direction in order to have fun
>>
>>730649082
The moment they were introduced? Are you fucking retarded? What kind of a question is that?
>>
>>730650479
I guess for autismo like you, it is fun replying the same game again and again and again and again.
Must be nice.
>>
>>730650527
Yeah, it's so autistic to be able to launch a game and have fun without looking through a list of achievements and planning out my gameplay session, totally.
>>
>>730650556
>without looking through a list of achievements and planning out my gameplay session
Nice assumptions retardo.
Care to quote parts of my previous posts there I said that?
>>
>>730650603
>instead of running through it for 5th time but this time with blue hat on, I'd rather clear up cheevos.
Do you just magically know all of the achievements, then? Or do you happen to stumble upon every single achievement by complete chance by aimlessly playing?
>>
>>730650636
Are you a fucking imbecile or do you just pretend?
I clearly said I'll do cheevo cleaning after I did a few runs.
What kind of idiot do you have to be to not understand it?
>>
>>730650479
There is nothing wrong with game devs suggesting some sort of specific challenge to players using achievements
>>
>>730650729
>I clearly said I'll do cheevo cleaning after I did a few runs.
Right, but you still aren't going to know every achievement just from doing a few runs unless you refer to the achievement list, at which point you are planning your play session to tick boxes.
Faggot.

I like 'em, it's a good checklist for completing a game.
I probably wouldn't have gone to NG+2 on Dark Souls 3 and beaten the Nameless King if there wasn't a trophy that demanded it.
Plus if I ever meet someone who has the platinum trophy in DS3 as well we can relate to each other like old war buddies. Anyone who got that thing remembers the struggle required to get it.
It also means that I know that the person in front of me is pretty fucking good at vidya, not just in terms of raw skill but also in being able to formulate strategies on how to get things done.
>>
>>730653998
>It also means that I know that the person in front of me is pretty fucking good at vidya,
What the fuck are you talking about? It just means he has time on his hands.
>>
>>730649082
After platinuming about 10 games. I quickly realized I didn't enjoy chasing trophies all that much.

Time and dedication, most people just want to go play something else after a while.
Hell, 50% of players never even got past Sulyvahn.

>>
>>730649082
When I started playing on Switch, I would say I realized a bit before hand when I forced myself to play Knack and Horizon just for trophies, those games were so awful they made me question myself.
>>
>>730654912
>Time and dedication, most people just want to go play something else after a while.
But you said he is "pretty fucking good at vidya. Now you are talking about dedication? Which one is it now?
>>
>>730656430
Both.
>>
>>730657927
That's retarded because you don't need to be super good at a game to grind it for hours.
