Am I just playing bad shmups or is the genre not for me? I've tried the most popular and highly rated ones like Ketsui, Dodonpachi, Daioujou, Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama etc, but I just can't get into themIs it a game selection issue?
Do you enjoy grinding the same 20 minutes of gameplay for hundreds of hours? Because that's the entire "appeal" of the genre.

Playing for 1cc is really enjoyable because while you need to learn a lot of the game and how to path it, the bar is low enough that your individual skill will carry you quite a bit. Scoring is pretty much 90% memorisation and repetition, it can be fun but I personally don't have the desire to do it. Generally, pick a few you like the feel of and rotate for a while until you start building core skills, then pick the one you like the most to 1cc.
