Am I just playing bad shmups or is the genre not for me? I've tried the most popular and highly rated ones like Ketsui, Dodonpachi, Daioujou, Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama etc, but I just can't get into them
Is it a game selection issue?
>>
Do you enjoy grinding the same 20 minutes of gameplay for hundreds of hours? Because that's the entire "appeal" of the genre.

Get the SNES version of Gradius 3 (with the SA1 hack maybe?) and emulate it. If you do not like that, you don't like the genre.
>>
OP is so desperate to be seen as "patrician" that he was bullied into playing all that garbage because obnoxious shmupfags successfully tricked him with cliches like "it's PURE gameplay" and "it's the hardest most hardcore gamiest game genre evar!"

If you played ketsui and did not like it, the genre isn't for you, full stop.

I can tell from your posts that you have attachment issues and are a gay pedophile

>STG are hard
no they aren't, they're genuinely more casual than the average singleplayer game nowadays considering there is no limit to how many credits you can put in. (inb4 self-imposed challenges)

MORKY ROCKERS IN THE THREAD TONIGHT

Every single STG/shmup thread is the same sequence of baitposting man.
Kinda ironic, I know, but still how about you channel that energy in scoring the games instead.

I recommend sticking to 1 game until you 1CC it
Just picking up random recommendation and playing for like 30 minutes and moving-on isn't going to make you feel good
I know there are fuck tons of recommendations for this genre, but try to go for quality experience over quantity

shmups are slop

I kek everytime.

Playing for 1cc is really enjoyable because while you need to learn a lot of the game and how to path it, the bar is low enough that your individual skill will carry you quite a bit. Scoring is pretty much 90% memorisation and repetition, it can be fun but I personally don't have the desire to do it. Generally, pick a few you like the feel of and rotate for a while until you start building core skills, then pick the one you like the most to 1cc.

Good post, can tell you actually play 'em and had a lot of fun with the genre.

He is right in an autistic sense. They really shouldn't allow you to continue.
>>
For some reason shmup discussion has become genuinely impossible over the last 2 years or so here

The vast majority of them don't or limit you to one or two.

Just start playing Touhou and break your eggshell, sister.

Yeah. You picked a bunch of vertical bullet hells to smash your face into at high velocity. Try a light horizontal shooter like Magical Chase or Hydorah or something
