Kendo lore is a mess, Robert kendo died in raccoon, his brother, Joseph kendo, was created solely so Leon could have a Kendo gun in RE4.Later, Joseph got retconned into being a former SWAT member that trained all STARS members and participated in the STAR gun trials were he presented a revolver and lost to his brother's Samurai Edges.later he became the official gunsmith for the BSAA, he created the AW model Chris uses in RE7, but it was based on designs for a anti-BOW pistol Albert Wesker created, capable of using special purpose ++P ammo, he also made the new SE Barry uses in Revelations 2 and the SE Jill uses, and loses, in the Death Island movie.it wasn't implemented in the game, but on RE8, the BSAA BOW soldiers were supposed to carry cheaper SE knockoffs made by blue umbrella and based on the AW, also capable of using special ammo.Tokyo Marui even made airsoft models of it.

The AW model also was retconned several times.First, it was supposed ti be the actual SAmurai's Edge that Wesker had, but Chris would've modified it to use a supressor and higher pressure ammo, the it was retconned to be a prototype made by Blue Umbrella made using designs found on old Umbrella computers made by Wesker, the same goes for the Thor's Hammer shotgun used in the Chris DLC for RE7.Later in the Death Island movie, it was once again retconned into being made by Joseph Kendo, but also using Wesker's designs.

So since he's not dealing with Chris in 4, he didn't feel obliged to use it. That said, I wish they had kept it. The Vertec 92, while technically a thing in the early 2000s, is a far inferior version of the pistol in my opinion. Maybe Capcom was just giving cloner fags something easier to work with, since Wesker's original Samurai edge is basically a custom fabricated frame.

No one is gonna go after old games since it's almost grand-fathered in, but after that they decided they needed to come up with special names. They created the name "Samurai Edge" to refer to the STARS Beretta 92FS for that reason. That's why later games use names like "Red9" instead of the actual real names even if its a complete visual copy of the fire arm. Or "TMP" instead of the Steyr TMP.
