What is /v/'s opinion on game modding? Should game devs embrace it? Does it harm the game developers vision?
>>7306560699/10 times the developer's vision is retarded so i'm all for it to cut away their retarded decisions
>>730656069Depends on the game. but dev vision is a retarded excuse to not mod.
While I respect the developers' vision, I don't treat it as some sort of ideal. It is just that, one vision out of great many others. I like mods because they let me explore different visions, different designs and decisions that someone decided to put their passion into, for better or worse. I think devs should treat modding scene favorably, since it not only gives new and interesting creative outlets, it also nurtures game communities and lets it grow beyond what it originally was along with the game itself. If you want an example, HoMM3 is still somewhat actively played thanks to the mods, Warcraft 3 map making scene keeps it relevant despite the devs' continuous efforts to murder it, I've seen some interesting mods for CnC games pop up over years, Elder Scrolls games have mods as one of the biggest features.Trying to police that stuff will do no good to anyone.
>>730656069The game is yours after you bought it. You can do ANYTHING you want with it. No exceptions. No, it's not a "license", you own it no matter what anybody says.>b-b-but what about the vision???99% of the time in a modern game there is no such thing. Games are done by committee and designed by consultants. Only auteurs like Kojima and Yoko Taro can actually have their work be personal. And in any case it doesn't matter; the moment you bought the game it's yours to rape as you please.
>>730659561>Hideous Kojimbatron invented visionHoly shit.
I'm a dev and I'm all for mods. Mods help a games longevity. Half life and doom are arguably only still relevant because of their modding scene. If I made a game and people were so invested in it that they want to mod it, I'd be flattered. As long as theres no loli, shota bullshit.
/v/ believes you should not be allowed to repair your own farming tools because the corporation that made them still owns them after you bought them
>>730656069>Should game devs embrace it?They don't need to, but they shouldn't prevent it.>Does it harm the game developers vision?Doesn't matter, mods don't have to follow any vision, as no one forces you to install them.>>730661349>As long as theres no loli, shota bullshit.Cringe. I hope your game flops.
>>730656069Most devs are faggots so I don't really have any hesitation when modding.
Can it run with DX12 already?
>>730661349>no lolishoYou have to go back
>>730661349>As long as theres no loli, shota bullshit.then you are not pro-mods, kys
