trying to build a curated ps2 collection of games instead of taking up over 2tb with games i'll never play. open to suggestions as well. criteria:
>isn't already available on steam, metal gear solid 2-3, final fantasy, katamari, etc.)
>there isn't a much better pc version (rayman 2-3, original pc releases of grand theft auto, etc.)
>isn't made obsolete by a sequel (ssx 1, nfsu 1, etc.)
>actually a good enough game to warrant playing (this excludes about 99% of the games you get when you download a full archive)

>nice -- how do the time crisis games work on pcsx2?
The emu has a guncon 2 support which you can emulate it into mouse and keyboard. The mouse pointer works on where to shoot and you can map the buttons too. The calibration is done in game of course. Also don't do widescreen hacks on these type of lightgun games cause it was made for 4:3 ratio screens thus fucks the shooting detection.
>>
>>730658814
Sounds awkward using anything but a light gun to play a light gun game.

thanks anon this is exactly what i was looking for -- a good list of games that are largely unique to ps2.

for as many great games as it has, it's amazing just how many have a superior version on PC or a different console.
>>
>>730664339
>a superior version on PC or a different console.
PS2 usually has the edge in lots of multiplats too, but it's the thing you'd notice most on real hardware like finer grain analog control, better button layouts and unique effects on PS2 that aren't replicated on other platforms.
>>
>>730664339
These >>730657891 are mostly exclusive besides Summoner 2 (better on PS2 than GC), and a few that might be better on og Xbox (Burnout 3, Revenge, and Crash Twinsanity) but Xemu still sucks ass

yeah the pressure buttons in metal gear solid 2 and the bouncer come to mind. i've also found that, unless you're talking about content, the quality of the port doesn't always apply to emulation. i read that the gamecube version of picrel is supposedly better than the ps2 version but i kept having graphical glitches on dolphin.
>>
Give me a good adventure game like king's field
>>
>>730664729
yeah this list was very helpful as well. i totally forgot about haunting ground which is excellent. i was aware of a lot of those games they're just not really up my alley personally (drakengard 1+2)
>>
>>730664898
Yeah I'd rather not comment on how emulation behaves, in 5 years it can be completely different while the PS2, Xbox, GC versions will stay the same on the original hardware. 6th generation is already pretty homogenous so with some exceptions it's not a big deal what version of a game you play. Shaolin Monks on PS2 is still a great game. The few times there are notable differences like in SSXT/3's case on Gamecube makes them stand out.

Shadow Tower Abyss
Shadow of Destiny
Eternal Ring

>>730665184

The old armored cores are another game enterely, no more than a couple bosses, turning around takes time so different weights do affect how you really play, there no lockon but auto lockon and scanner, meaning thar you need to follow the enemy manually instead of just pressing a button and call It a day.

it is divisive, a lot of people hate it beause at some point you will have to restart the game because you are too weak and need to go to a second playthrough but it is unique and the gameplay is good.

>Radiata Stories
Is cute jrpg with 2 big different routes between non-humans and humans. Is also quite depressing at times and not so long. The best part is doing little sidequest and meeting the requirements to get new party members which are pretty varied and colorful.

>Steambot Chornicles
A mecha open world game in a steampunk setting, no other game come close to this, made by IREM. I love it to hell and you have a lot of small choices around the story and even be a horrendous villain if you want to too.

>Beatdown: FIst of Vengeance
I didn't beat the game because it filtered me, it plays a lot like a fighting game but is also a beat em' up with awesome music. Is edgy as hell and you can execute a dude, meaning you stopm his head to death. you played the bouncer which can be compared maybe.

Is a special game, don't know how good but you will have a blast. You can make some dialogue choices that makes you question if the dev was high.

the resident evil alpha demo, now that was one hell of a clusterfuck, I don't remember the details but I'm sure you can find it with some googling, I do remember one uploading a "full" version he made himself and shitflinging with a second collector who had a copy until one dude uploadod his own copy or hacked one of the guys, I don't remember. a lot of butthurt.

ps2 emulation is mostly about convenience and performance to me. i grew up playing the ps2 and always hated the load times compared to xbox and pc. aside from a few games that take advantage of the pressure-sensitive buttons, i legitimately enjoy playing on pcsx2 more than the original hardware.
>>
>>730677716
You can improve PS2 load times with hard drive loading. It makes it a non-issue. The hardware is ultimately inseparable for the PS2 experience, it is the canvas in which the games are created and the best way to play them. However the only wrong way to play PS2 games is to not play them at all.
>>
>>730677825
>the hardware is ultimately inseparable for the ps2 experience
i disagree for most games. it's not like the wii or the ds. if we're talking about the bouncer or metal gear solid 2 (and even that had completely functional ports) maybe, but too few games actually took advantage of the unique hardware specs you're talking about, which was a complaint even back then. twisted metal black is probably one of my most played games of all time, on ps2 and on emulation, and i legitimately don't notice difference when i'm actually playing the game.
>>
>>730676746
>post that you have a copy
>no you can't have it
god what a faggot. i bet that person is active in the MAME community too
>>
>>730678091
The separation PS2 hardware has from Wii or DS is actually more significant from a generic PC environment. It just so happens the most major addition to control Wii and DS added to games was already present on PC for decades: pointing and clicking. Since most waggle actions are so rudimentary there exists literally hundreds of per-game hacks to convert them to button presses, and even built in binding environments to translate them to button presses in emulators it's not the most convincing handwaving of the uniqueness of PS2. From the way the interlacing is rendered to the UI, the way the GPU is being used to create bleeding edge 3D, emulation can only approximate it, and upscaling reveals all kinds of tricks the developers would use at the time in very obvious illusion shattering detail.

Like I said, emulation is better than not playing at all, but I play PS2 to play PS2. The games are more than just software on a disc.
>>
>>730676143
>SSX 1
why over tricky or 3?
>>
>>730678870
i guess. i just know when i was gaming back then i never thought of ps2 as some technological marvel. the tricks they did to get some games working were impressive but i always just thought of it as vastly inferior to a gaming pc, just with enough exclusives to justify owning it. i remember always shitting on my friends for having to play stuff like max payne on ps2 instead of pc. even multiplat games like madden would piss me off on ps2 because they were so blatantly worse than the xbox version.
>>
>>730679626
yeah i feel like SSX is one of those series where each subsequent game basically made the previous one obsolete...well, until On Tour
