actually they did vanish and the only way to reproduce it is to emulate it, which comes with massive problems themselves. like you cannot find this rendering technique in blender for example. this is why people have to go back to Bryce 3D and shit too, despite that being 20 years old. on another note, jpg compression has also irreversably changed over time
