I bought a bunch of "adult" lego sets (like house plants and bird statues) to give as Christmas gifts and was surprised at how cheap they were. Sets with a thousand pieces for under $30. Anyone else think a LOT of the Lego sets look outright atrocious? Even the Chinese knockoff brands you see on Amazon look better, yet Lego still has the gall to charge hundreds of dollars for their shit, and they all have rave reviews.

I think the worst offenders are the Lego cars, which outside of maybe the higher end Lamborghini ones that are 400 fucking dollars, they all look terrible and don't capture the essence of the car whatsoever.

>>
Building a hecking arwing or some shit was always the least appealing part of Legos. I fell for it twice as a kid, getting those ones that you're building something on the box. The most fun was mom getting a big thing of the Lego-sized Mega Blocks and building whatever out of them. Mega Blocks for the basic pieces, then the more complex parts were Legos like hinges and such.
This is why kids became obsessed with Minecraft creative mode, they can actually just build from their imagination instead of following a guide to make an ugly Pikachu. This isn't even new, Legos have just been this for a while, ugly versions of the toy models your parents or grandparents built as kids.
In reverse, Lego games are wasted potential when it's just Lego people running around a regular ass boring world with grass and paved roads, some Lego games don't even have the fucking buildings made out of Legos. EVERYTHING should be made out of Legos, even the water as much as it would piss off that Miiverse guy.

Yes, Lego's "Adults" line has been a thing for a while.
It used to be things like Lego plants or famous pieces of architecture, stuff you could put on a shelf in your office and nobody would blink an eye, but now it's extended to licensed IPs like Star Wars, Marvel, and Pokemon in the form of these statues.
They're more like model kits than toys to be played with, so they put 18+ on the boxes.

In terms of bitch-basic bricks, they're now more or less equal to Lego, if not even better.
HOWEVER, once you get into even slightly specialised stuff like chains, C-clips, balljoints and the like it becomes a total shitshow, mainly because they use generic ABS plastic for pretty much everything no matter the function.
>>
>>730664241
Selling their souls to IPs
>>
I prefer when people replicate things using common pieces instead of custom set pieces. It's more creative and generally looks better.
>>
>>730663887

>>
I wish Lumibricks would either get licensing or just make knock offs since they're Chinese and don't give two shits about IP. Those sets are 1/4 the cost of Lego, but have the the same build quality and include the lighting, which is neat.

I, BITCHachu-sama, mascot of the HIGHEST-GROSSING FRANCHISE and JOBBER of the vidya industry humbly kneel to:

Shuntaro Furukawa-sama, former employee of TPC, current Nintendo CEO, and my master.

TPC-sama, my one and only true love and other master.

Atlus-sama, who I shamelessly ripped off via SMT for my gameplay only for them to strike back with CHADsona.

Palworld-sama, who my daddy Furukawa warned me about.

Enix-sama, who easily manhandled me with Dragon Quest Monsters.

Yugi Muto and Kazuki Takahashi-sama, who anally raped me and first awakened my wish to become a TCG and merchandising franchise first and foremost.

Junichi Masuda-sama, who argued with me and his employees at GameFreak so hard, his departure started to cause the quality of my games to decrease and got me attracted to MEN...

Squaresoft-sama, whose incomparabily soulful JRPGs in the 90s crushed my ass-womb entirely to the point I STILL cannot SUPRASS them, even 22 years after merging with Enix-sama.

Bamco-sama, whose hour-long beatings from the recent Digimon games gave me uncontrollable orgasms so massive even the anal rape from Furukawa-sama can't compare.

Itoi-sama, for his Mother Trilogy is the superior JRPG series of my Nintendo MASTERS, and has single-handedly inspired more Indie RPGs than even I have...

Level-5-sama, whose power I am scared of (I am glad they stopped making Yokai Watch and didn't kill my beloved masters, as I was too scared to help them…)

Sandfall-sama, who revenge-raped and mindbroke me and my fanbase via E33 from the sheer pleasure of being made into an onahole after Legends Z-A FLOPPED in France. (I was so sad about it...)

and finally, Monolithsoft-sama, for they will FUCK ME up on the world stage once they release their Zelda RPG and expose me and GameFreak for the frauds we are. (God I hope so…)

Unironically the gayest route they could have possibly gone.

If they wanted to go the diorama route, it would have been way cooler if we got buildable towns and battle arenas from the game with minifigure-scale Pokemon. Would be really easy to work in a play gimmick with that idea too (similar to the classic Ninjago spinner stuff).

>give it food tie-ins, video games, a whole show, figures that can swap body parts, and even a toy that reacts to the show

I don't care if you have to fill it with basic breaks or face bricks, the priority should have been to introduce newcomers to the series. like everyone even loves minifigs. they are out of touch with capturing new audience. where did the magic of lego go to build something you don't interact with.

Eh, they fixed most of their pre-COVID quality issues (like that time they made a batch out of bio-degradable plastic and it started to literally rot on shelves, as well as the breaking browns), and have consistently made their bricks float around 10-12 cents per price, the real issues are the fact they utterly cheap out in printing as you said (500 dollar set? Enjoy your sticker sheet) and now consciously add more bricks than needed to jack up prices.

the cracking is still a severe issue, not only with Lego but ABS plastic in general, mainly due to regulations regarding its composition.
I remember reading a while ago that only like 30% of the material actually consists of ABS itself while the rest is additives and how one of the components which makes the plastic more elastic/soft happens to be the most expensive one so they cheapened out on it.

>>
>>730663887
Lego's business model has gotten completely fucked up because they have their fingers in way too many pies now. They make a lot more kinds of bricks in way more colors than the used to, which means they're always changing out the colors and molds and that means they've basically ruined their own economy of scale, especially when they make so many sets with totally unique elements now.

They subsidize the middling cost of their tiny Wal-Mart tier sets by massively overcharging for these limited licensed and adult-oriented sets. And the companies they collaborate with end up taking a sizable cut, too.
>>
>>730669465

>>730663554
Lego has been garbage for more then a decade by now. And they continue to get worse while simultaneously increasing their prices.
You are right that their Technic products are especially terrible.

It feels wrong to recommend chinese knockoffs but they have made terrific progress in the last years and are superior to Lego by now while costing only a fraction.
If you are interested look into Lumibricks (specialised in buildings with illumination), Cada (great Technic models) and Pantasy (great quality and some unusual set ideas).
If you want a non-chinese alternative and are into military vehicles look into Cobi.

I remember that book. Lego Education has always had a weird vibe that doesn't feel very "Lego". Probably because they're going for an educational aspect first and foremost and not trying to make a fun toy and all kids hate stuff with the word "education" in it.
