>play with 4 rookies>sectoid out in the open>each rookie has a 65% chance to hit him>all of them miss>the sectoid one-shots my guy in full coverfuck this game
Embrace the randomness, transcend expectations of certainty, realize everything is a risk.
>>730663350>Game gives you accurate information on the probability of your actions>Game has been proven time and again to not cheat against the player, instead it follows strict math in its percentage checks>"NOOOO I WILLINGLY PUT ALL OF MY TRUST ON A COIN TOSS BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW RNG WORKS AND IT DIDN'T TURN OUT THE WAY I WANTED!!!!!!" You people need to go back to highschool
>>730663730You're not saying absolutely anything
>>730663730I like nucom but it cheats like a motherfucker and doesn't even try to hide it.
>>730663350>playing without Aiming Angles onngmi
>>730663730>Game has been proven time and again to not cheat against the playerkekproven?no it hasn't - unless the source code has been leaked in its entirety somewhere I'm unaware of
>>730665301XCOM2 rigs the rolls in favor of the player specifically to avoid the situations that people will call unfair, for example invisibly increasing your chance to hit if you've already missed a few times in a row. XCOM EU/EW does none of that. The rolls have been tested thoroughly by players and the game is in fact completely honest about the odds.
>>730663730>Firaxis>notorious for making AI just have advantages because they can't program good AI>THEY TOTALLY WOULDN'T CHEAT IN FAVOR OF THE AI IN THIS FRANCHISE!sure thing pal
>>730665883>The rolls have been tested thoroughly by playerssource?
>>730665883You're so full of shit.Go do a percentage analysis of the AI dodge performance (XCOM 2) then tell me there isn't background percentage manipulation happening in favour of the AI.Then do a side by side comparison of shot performance against the Lost vs. ADVENT and tell me the same.
>>730663350>that fucking train missiongood times I found it way more memorable than xcom2
>>730666213Only memorable XCOM 2 part is Shen's Tower dlc. It's not even that good, but the message from Raymond Shen was nice.
>>730663350>4 rookies>each rookie has a 65% chance to hit himChance to miss: 35%0.35^4 ~= 0.0151.5% chance
>>730663350Play the superior version
>>730666009>source?Ugh, shit was over a decade ago so I can't promise I'll be able to find anything again NOW, especially with the absolute state of modern search engines, but I can have a look around. No promises, though.>>730666175>Go do a percentage analysis of the AI dodge performance (XCOM 2)Sorry, I refuse to go back to XCOM2 for any reason. EW only for me. But I would like to clarify that I only stated the RNG isn't rigged in XCOM 1. From what I recall, the rigging in XCOM 2 generally went like this:1) If the odds are either very high or very low, then they will be invisibly adjusted to be higher or lower, respectively. For example, a 90% chance gets bumped up a bit so players won't rage about missing """guaranteed""" shots as often, and a 10% chance gets bumped down so it may as well be 0%.2) RNG gets rigged to try to avoid streaks. So for example if you miss several times in a row, it'll progressively bump up your chance to hit until the streak is broken.
>>730663350Use your grenades, retard.
>>730667089what is this garbage, fusion missiles dont have such a large explosion radius
>>730663350You haven’t played the game if you haven’t missed a 95% chance
I mean you're gonna savescum anyway so what does it matter
>>730663350>Sending an all rookie squad>not using a grenade after the first missYou only have yourself to blame there
>>730666009>>730667368I managed to find one of the guys that tested it manually by just recording shots taken here: https://sinepost.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/is-xcom-truly-random/
>>730667562>fusion missileslaughs in just like hiroshima
>>730667368>>730668138Hm. Interesting.I just play XCOM 2 really (nucom just has that je ne sais quoi for me), but it really makes me want to do some testing. I thoroughly disagree that the displayed percentages aren't being adjusted in favor of the AI (at higher difficulties - I'm aware of the helper percentages at lower difficulties as they're even written on screen)Guess I'll have to figure out xcom modding for data extraction. I hear it's a bitch.
>>730665883>>730667368Afaik RNG is not rigged on highest difficulty in XCOM2.
>>730666175>>730670631Yes hello I remembered another detail that MAY explain why you feel the RNG is rigged especially in XCOM2, and it has to do with how the game actually treats the numbers that you're presented with. It's a bit weird, so I'll just give an example based off of my totally trustworthy memory. So let's say as an example you're taking a shot and are presented with these odds:Hit: 65%Crit: 20%Dodge: 25%The game will make one roll between 0.00 and 1.00 to determine the outcome. If the roll is between 0.00 and 0.35 you will MISS (100% - 65% = 35% chance for a miss)If the roll is between 0.35 and 0.60 the enemy will DODGE (the 25% chance to dodge is on top of the chance to miss, in the same single roll)If the roll is between 0.60 and 0.80 you will HIT (65% chance to hit minus the 25% chance to dodge minus the 20% chance to crit) and lastly...If the roll is between 0.80 and 1.00 you will CRIT. (20% chance to crit)This is probably not how you would intuit the odds the game shows you. Most likely you expected first a 65% chance to hit, and then another roll after that if you do hit to determine if it's a dodge, a crit, or a regular hit. But nope, the game does it all in roll so that 25% to dodge means when you press the button there is literally a 25% chance that the outcome is a dodge.I'm pretty sure it was the same way in XCOM EU/EW, except dodge didn't exist there so nobody really noticed. Adding the dodge mechanic makes things seem a bit off though, since it's effectively being subtracted from your chance to hit, which is kinda crazy.
>>730665301Yes, every time a pod activates on your turn and the aliens get a free move, it's cheating.
>>730663350You only have to survive long enough to unlock SHIV tech. Then you can start replacing every dead veteran with a robot(bring at least one human to unlock training school upgrades). They are easily replaceable and strong enough to complete missions. Besides, your starter soldiers will eventually become obsolete anyways because they didn't benefit from iron will and are unlikely to all have the psionic gift.
>>730663350I like how the chance of hitting an enemy is 95% when you're standing right in front of him, literally touching his face with the muzzle of your gun. There is some jank but overall a very solid game. XCOM2 was so full of gadgets and customization that it felt a bit annoying. Like a kid's room stuffed with toys. Also, the atmosphere in XCOM1 was so much better, especially the beginning where you had to face unknown enemies with a bunch of noobs that panic and friendly-fire half your team because an alien farted in his general direction. Some encounters were fucking nail-biters!
>>730667803Whyattt?!?! Do I LOOK like an Fallout1 player? The answer is yes.
>>730675769They don't get a free move, discovering a pod is literally all in the player's advantage.>Discover pod>Enemies cannot attack in the same turn they're discovered, they just cinematically shuffle into a position the devs could have easily always had them spawn in, with no idle animation of any kind>But if the player knew the pod was there and set up an overwatch trap, you get to kill the entire pod when they're alerted before they ever take a turnThis is why overwatch abuse was so powerful in EU, and only mitigated in EW by the inclusion of Meld which punished you by losing resources. A far better method than XCOM 2's timers.
>>730663730Those probabilties are lies, or at least in relation to the actual odds of that specific shot. I did great experiment where I reloaded a save for at least 100 times and found that specific actions in a specific order would hit/miss regardless of their accuracy values in EU, they may have fixed it for EW and they sure as fuck fixed it for XCOM2.
>>730663730they hated him because he spoke the truth
>>730663350How about you try a couple shots and if it's not dead yet you use your guaranteed damage like grenades? Dumbass.
>>730663350Just load the game and do it again. Saving and loading is part of the game. Either do that or live with the consequences zoomie
>>730663350Xcom 2 is good
>>730663350>quick save>shoot>miss>load>shoot>miss>load>shoot>hit for minimum damage>sectoid shoots back and one-shots you>load>shoot>miss>load
>>730684197hey dspbig fan
>>730663730If the success chance is above 51% I should just get it.
>>730684197>>730684546>I'm too retarded to strategise and manage risk
>>730667368Why do you not like XCOM 2?
I'm almost ok with the hit rates once you use accuracy mods on every fucking weapon but the fucking pod triggers were infuriating>move everyone around>last guy ends behind everyone but passes a window that apparently nobody walked by and triggers a podor>move one guy 4 squares ahead>triggers one pod just around the corner and another at the edge of his vision in the opposite directionor how could I forget>use reaper to scout>2 pods are on top of each other>walk around to find a better position to start combat>they walk away from each other>trigger pod>sectopod walks off in the horizon, breaks a wall and triggers another podDoes the warhammer xcomlike have the same issue?
>>730684546Yeah, sure, but remember that a missed shot goes somewhere else and can take out a piece of cover your team was relying on being there.I managed to wipe my own squat by missing a shot that took out a wall, exposed a bunch of new enemies and ended with my panicked soldiers to kill each other until I had just one half-dead guy left that died the next round.Situations like these and occasional bugs are the reason I never do iron-man runs. Never again.
>>730685391while I don't think the game cheats, I do agree that I just can't do an ironman run for those situations (especially when playing long war). I'll just restart the mission if I fuck myself over and not make myself spend another dozen of my nonwage hours getting to the same point.
>>730667089Piratez is so good I can no longer consider playing the Firaxis Xcoms over it. However, I still can't always tell if an enemy will be visible from certain angles and distances even during daytime missions.
>>730685791Same. And losing multiple soldiers in the beginning can lead to a total overall mission failure down the line which sucks even more. I get the barely scraping by can be thrilling in a way but most runs that start with a serious botch end up with my team being completely overwhelmed to a level that's not fun anymore and I don't see a reason to play games that aren't fun.
