They should have just eliminated health altogether. I mean, every other step you take there's a healing item. Hell, sometimes they just force you to run into them in certain sections.

I know, Kirby is meant to be one of Nintendo's easier franchises, but I remember Kirby games like the first, which gave you an extra mode that actually tested your skills a little. The "wild mode" is just casual mode with a different name, and spring breeze is for fetal alcohol babies and other retards.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the starry stages, and the forgo islands, but having to slog through the main game just to get to the actual good content felt like a huge waste of time.

Not even bottomless pits kill you anymore. So just remove health altogether and make Kirby literally invincible. If the games are from now on just glorified puzzle games where you find shit and perform useless acts like having 12 waddle dees suck your dick in 10 seconds to gain mission requiremets, then take out the platforming and combat. After all, the game is by their verion definition "accessible to all ages and types of people" then just take death out. As it is, the main game is power fantasy where you can never fail.

>hurr durr self-imposed challenges
You shouldn't have to jump off a cliff seven times or run into enemies and avoid every single box because it could be a healing item is tedious.

Again, not knocking the extra content. The levels after the main game and starry stages are legitimately good because they can test people who's IQ is above toom temperature for a change.

What do you /v/irgins think of it? Did you enjoy Forgotten Land, or did it feel like a huge time sink for you?

I enjoyed it because it was easy, that's what I signed up for by playing Kirby. I've been intentionally killing Kirby for not collecting things since like Dream Land 3.
Once I get to the True/Soul Arenas I tend to lose interest because it's just pattern recognition at that point and not anything that feels like I'm learning how the game works. Eliminating health would be bad because at least there is some context for why you would want to avoid something, even after you realize that it doesn't matter.

I know someone who is that. If you knew what they went through, you wouldn't make fun of them.

it's basically a spectacle platformer. you play to see what dumb stuff happens next and how it manages to top itself.

See that's the thing, I feel as if I am actually learning something by fighting tough bosses. By having to pay attention, learning their weaknesses, figuring out which copy ability works best, and managing diminishing resources, I feel like my brain is active and engaged. But going through stages where you don't need to avoid enemies because a healing item is every few steps, my attention wanders. Most of the puzzles just aren't difficult, and scavenging for waddle dees never feels challenging.

I suppose it depends on the person, and how they're wired, and maybe what era they grew up in. I admit that I grew up in the '80s and early '90s, when even Nintendo games challenged twitch reflexes and hand-eye coordination. And while Kirby was one of the easier IPs, you still had games like Kirby's Adventure, where you could occasionally lose a life if you were being careless. There just doesn't seem to be any meaningful punishment for getting hit or falling when you have something inhaled. I'm not talking about lives or game overs. Those are a thing of the past that I'm glad most modern games have eliminated. But I want to actually use Kirby's cool copy abilites to their fullest. Not melt an enemy down before I even have to use them effectively.

I just don't see what's so bad about offering a hard mode for players that want to sweat a little in the main stages. It doesn't take anything away from players that prefer to just coast.

Again, I know, someone will say "derp, kirby isn't for you". But that's the thing, I want it to be for me too. I love his copy abilities, the boss designs, world designs, and enemy designs. I just don't want to the games to put me to sleep, like epic yarn did for others.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland felt like that sweet spot in difficulty.

I feel the same way of course. The game is pretty, and it honestly looks amazing for a Switch 2 game, or any game period. It does my heart well that /v/ has a positive outlook on this game.

I just wish it had a hard mode. But at least I've got the forgo islands. Those are fun as fuck to play through.

Don't get me wrong, I love the way the game plays and looks. But this game is easy even by Kirbys standards. Outside the true arena and forgo islands/starry stages of course.

its insane how the average nintendo fan is mid-30s yet the company wont even add a difficulty option for games like kirby or pokemon. even mario only gets a few tough special stages towards the end.

EX Bosses are the most fun I have in these games. The "Extra" mode as a concept will always be the most appealing to me and you hit the nail on the head with the perfect difficulty in that case. With those modes, I am learning EX Bosses but it's not a gauntlet where I lose my progress if I straight up lose and I don't have to micromanage getting hit and healing in many cases.

Best game in the series behind Planet Robobot. Like all the games it’s a chill platformer with a nice soundtrack and uplifting visuals then you get to true arena and have a decently tense boss gauntlet to finish the experience. I always appreciate the duality of the experience within modern Kirby games, hope it continues.
