Why release an interquel rather than Half-Life 3? If they had made Half-Life 3 in VR people would have been forced to mass adopt VR
>>730667060Because people wouldn't have actually mass adopted VR and HL3 would have looked like a flop.
Why do people treat this board like Google? Do your own fucking research.
VR was a meme. Valve makes Half Lifes based around advances in gaming and VR wasn't it.
>>730667060After 20 years nobody who still doesn't have a vr would be giving enough fucks to get one at this point
>>730667060I'd just skip it if it was VR.
>>730667060Believe it or not zoom zoom, but every mainline Half-Life game was nothing more than a tool to do something innovative with the genre. The truth is that VR simply doesn't offer anything interesting from a gameplay perspective. Its been 10 years since VR launched and there are a grand total of 3 games that are worth owning VR for. Alyx, whatever racing game you care about, and Beat Saber.Using your body as a controller really isn't that compelling, nobody wants to use gay-ass goggles for more than 30 minutes, and developing for VR is an expensive nightmare with absolutely no chance at returns.
>>730667274Google now is just poor quality ai summaries
>>730667060valve makes tech demos>HL2physics demo>portalportal/momentum demo>hl2:ep1new lighting/"human" animations demo>hl2:ep2new graphics template demo>l4dgore system/AI Director demo>l4d2gore system/AI director demo>HL:Alyx babbies first vr game demo
>>730667678Valve wasn’t expecting half-life to be a hit at all, they didn’t think they would be changing the genre at all. At least with the first game anyway
>>730667892Care to substantiate that?
>>730667060Because Gaben is a fucking coward. I think the problem is the same as with the fat fuck who wrote the books that Game of Thrones is based on. He's hyped HL to such an extreme degree, and claimed that a new game can only be released if it's revolutionary or evolves the genre, and I think he's just scared that after 20+ years, nothing he does can live up to the hype.He really is a disgusting fucking faggot. He claims to care about video games, yet he does almost nothing to develop new games, despite having billions and billions to fund whatever game he wants, no matter how impossibly crazy his vision is.
>>730668125>yet he does almost nothing to develop new gamesName another company in the gaming space that is doing more to pull the industry forward than Valve?
>>730668125>wanting valve to be ea / activision and shit out games every a yearif you want soulless slop anon there are plenty other devs to support
>>730667060> mass adopt VR
>>730668547Anyone with this shit on their computer should be put in prison. Definite nonce-tier.
>>730668373it's been 20 years
>>730669250HLX, Deadlock, CS2, Aperture Desk Job, Artifact, Alyx, DotA Underlords, DotA2, CSGO.Lay off the weed anon, Valve have released and supported plenty games since HL2.
>>730669771according to valve "fans", every game that isn't HL3 doesn't count
>>730667060VR didn't have any solid best practices, so they wanted to test the waters more.Valve also prefers to just absorb half-finished products as was the case with Portal and other games, and development for basically everything at the time was so ass that there were no half-finished flat or VR games to absorb, only very basic tech demos.>>730667678If VR was an expensive nightmare to develop for, there wouldn't be VR mods. Releasing VR games just isn't streamlined and even major AAA studios are now the equivalent of early 2000s licensed shovelware devs.
>>730670390>If VR was an expensive nightmare to develop for, there wouldn't be VR mods.Do you think modding a pancake game into VR confers the same gameplay experience as a proper VR game? Don't be dense.
>>730670821Yes.Any Cockpit game works as a pancake game and works very well as a VR game.Depending on how much effort goes into the VR conversion, a lot of flat fuck games can get better when you throw VR into the mix.You don't need the whole physical interaction physics demo suite, you just need to be able to move your head and your interaction point(s) (your arms or your controller) separately.
>>730671691>Any CockpitSo esentially, racing games, and that's it.>a lot of flat fuck games can get better when you throw VR into the mix. This has never ever happened. >You don't need the whole physical interaction physics demo suite, you just need to be able to move your head and your interaction point(s) (your arms or your controller) separately. Then you're just playing the game with worse controls in a way it was never designed for.
>>730667060>Why release an interquel rather than Half-Life 3?To fix the ending of Episode 2 which killed the story
>>730667678>Believe it or not zoom zoom, but every mainline Half-Life game was nothing more than a tool to do something innovative with the genre.people always get this wrong. it's not that the game serves to showcase new tech, but rather the new tech serves to showcase the game. they want half-life games to be as memorable and impactful as possible and you don't do that by releasing endless sequels that just retread the same ground as the previous game. you have to make something new in terms of gameplay and presentation.
>>730671802>So esentially, racing games, and that's it.Racing, flight, spaceships, tanks, mecha. Basically anything where you are expected to just sit.>This has never ever happened. It might eventually once VR modding gets easier and more streamlined. There's probably some games where people like the VR mode more.>Then you're just playing the game with worse controls in a way it was never designed for.People already do this every time they play FPS games on controller and VR isn't worse than that. VR controls are almost identical to the kit of standard controllers, just with better tracking.
>>730667060Because they're afraid of calling anything Half-Life 3.And also it doesn't feel like Valve wants to really be a major platform holder. They still expect modders and other enthusiasts to do all the work for them.
>>730668373Are you retarded or something?
>>730668236They're doing almost nothing. They make an absolute fortune through Steam, and do very little with the money, compared to what they could be doing.
>>730668547tranny tech is truly amazing
VR is not a serious medium.
>>730674212Not an argument.>>730674292Lets try again.Name another company in the gaming space that is doing more to pull the industry forward than Valve.
>>730674292Vulkan, Proton, their hardware, funding Linux development and drivers, funding FEX-Emu and meshoptimizer and other software, that's not doing very little with their money.Like anon said, just because it's not HL3 doesn't mean it doesn't count.
>>730668236Microsoft unironically
>>730675172Going to substantiate that?
Does Quest link or whatever gay software for Quest still have the issue where it literally copies hundreds of thousands of junk files to your OS install drive Everytime you run it? I have literally never finished this game or any VR game because Meta's gay app ground my PC to a halt because it copied almost an actual million junk files into the root of my C drive. Of course they were hidden by default too. This terrifies me the point of not wanting to install it again, and I guess never use my Quest 2 again.
>>730671802>This has never ever happened.Serious Sam 3Doom 3every single fucking simulation/racing game
>>730675841>Serious Sam 3>Doom 3These are worse when played as VR.
>>730675921BFE VR flat out makes the underground sections bearable

>>730667060Because nobody actually likes vr
>>730678814I like VR.
>>730675575You don't need the quest app. Download steam link if poor, virtual desktop otherwise. It just werks.
>>730678894I don’t know if you’re a person, you could be a bot
>>730675575maybe it was some leftover from the oculus home environment
>>730667678Ur just mad you have motion sickness and can’t wear VR headsets. Lmao.
Also, I still don’t know how people could still hate VR. I have a feeling most of you haven’t even tried it.
>>730683442It’s like the wii if it was crammed against your eyeballs
Something like this could honestly fix a lot of what makes vr shit.
>>730667241Fpbp. VR is a niche experimental market right now. It was even more niche at the time Alyx came out.
>>730669771Based and true. Valve never went away.
>>730684082No, it's just a cool gimmick. Because what, are you just never going to have stairs in a VR video game? Or sloping terrain?Analog stick movement is just less restrictive for content now. That isn't to say people shouldn't be looking into more immersive locomotion, just that fundamentally it's not the problem.
>>730684082Do you have any idea how fucking exhausted you would be if you had to physically run irl the way you do in games?
>>730685502There were wii games like that
>>730675045maybe someone else should start developing hl3, then valve can come in at the end, advertise it, make a few tweaks and claim it's theirs and valvetroons like you will say "see, they HAVE been working!!"
