Looking to get into fighting games. Where should i start?
>>
>>730671118
probably sf6
>>
>>730671118
Any current ongoing titles is always the best way to start. No need to go searching out through a treasure trove of old titles unless you just can't enjoy modern titles for all their benefits and drawbacks.

Easiest is clearly SF6 followed by Tekken 8, purely for playerbase. If you'd prefer anime fighters, you've got Strive. Though theirs alot of contention for whether these games are even good.
>>
>>730671118
These games suck. Heres what i would recommend -- not saying theyre the best, but they are at least decent and have decently active communities.

You can probably play an old tekken, soul cal, or doa on arkadyzja or something but i dont know shit about that

Avoid kof 02, lof xiii, ggxxacpr, vsav, mvc2, cvs2, since while despite being decent games with decent player pools youre gonna get filtered

Fexl, rumble fish 2, and mbaacc are good but dead, avoid them unless you have someone to play with.

Most recent fighting games just suck

Don't. Unless you like mobile game level monetization.

I can only speak for 2D Fighting games
You wanna start with a game you like and you'll put tons of hours into
Once you do that it's easier to get into other fighting games because there's shared elements that you'll like (eg. you're gonna whiff punish in every game and it's always fun to do)
Here's my >Opinion on everything I've tried
>SF6
Really easy to get a grasp on, tons of players, good matchmaking, very reaction heavy
Lots of overlap between characters, which can feel samey, lots of situations where you have to guess and you can't do stuff that will cover most options
>Guilty Gear Strive
Decently easy to get into, more knowledge checks than SF6, pressure can feel super scary as a result. Has stronger defensive tools as a result.
Has a good number of players, got patched to finally have a decent ranked mode too
Probably my favorite because you get to pick your character and do character specific stuff
>Granblue
Easy to get into, similar to SF6 in some aspects
A bit more character-oriented than SF6 imo
Doesn't have as many players as SF6/GGST but still plenty easy to get matches
Has a free version with some characters on rotation
>2XKO
Easy inputs, filled with bullshit, mediocre balance
Most of the game feels like waiting to get your assists back
It's free I guess, only game in my list that felt kinda bad
>Third Strike
Free through Fightcade, decent number of players
Doesn't require a lot of investment to start having fun
>BBCF, +R, Xrd, Uni2
Very small population with lots of veterans
All four are fun games, cheap, but difficult to get into, both because of mechanics/characters and a lack of players
>>
>>730671118
Get Street Fighter 6. It's the most populated of the bunch so you will always find someone at your skill level to play, no matter the skill level. Plus, it's the most "documented" fighting game currently out there so you never run short of tutorials or things to learn. Also, the players actually rematch unlike Tekken.
>>
Here's luck for a long fg thread.
>>
>>730671118
whatever game looks cool to you, if it's old play on fightcade, if it's new it'll have players on the game itself. if you want purely players. SF6 by a wide wide wide margin.
>>730672957
MVC2,VSAV and CVS2 only really have players in certain areas. it's not like 2x or 3s where there is enough players to play anywhere, outside of NA CVS2 is a ghost town.
>>730673016
UMVC3 netcode is trash and SF4's is kinda janky. but yea the rest are more than playable.
>>
Dont waste time considering an old game. Just pick a current popular game. Its easier
>>
Start with sf6. There's a fuckton of people at your skill level ready to play against you, and it's the easiest one to get into
>>
Is sf6 good?
>>
>>730674931
it's ok, but it has too many systemic issues and capcom has not really been addressing any of them
>>
>>730675113
So i should pick up the game, get good, and if i like the game keep playing, if not then i either wait for them to fix it and hop to a different game?

Are the old street fighters easy for new players, do people still play them?
>>
>>730671118
Tekken 5 or Dark Resurrection
>>
>>730671118
There is absolutely no way this thread is genuine and people will fall for it
>>
SF4 has many players of all skill levels still on Steam. I never have issues getting matches. Sometimes you get shit connections but in my experience its the minority of the time. Im an old stoner that plays Dee Jay and Vega mostly but I like the whole cast. Bounce between 1200 pp and 2700 pp regularly
>>
>>730675876
There's a thread few days ago where the OP needs help on how to play Strive Baiken and it's very genuine.
>>
Which one should i get if i want to see titties and asses, but also want something fun AND is not dead onlinewise.
>>
>>730671118
Currently, i'd say SF6 and VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 are the only games worth learning and playing. It will also teach you alot of fundamentals you can carry to other fighting games.
>>
>>730676538
Both have tits and asses
Both are dead online
DOA5 is more fun
DOA6 is mixed because break meter and fatal rush are gay
To see more tits and asses on DOA5, there's a mod called DOAHDM or Beach Paradise mod that gives you more tits and asses or in simple terms it ports all DOAX3 and DOAXVV scenes and animations to the game.
>>
>>730675767
you drop the game if you don't like it, you don't owe anyone shit, you can dislike sf6 because it's grounded footsies and you'd rather play an anime fighter
sf4/5 aren't played much and the netcode isn't great
3 is on fightcade
>>
this is our war, Street Fighter 4
this is our jive, Street Fighter 5
this is our mix, Street Fighter 6
>>
>>730677112
this is our turd, Street Fighter 3
>>
>>730674931
yes, but drive rush and corner pressure are very oppressive, the game is very rushdown oriented
>>
>>730671118
-Mortal Kombat is a bad fighting game and it has terrible graphics/design
-the latest guilty gear isn't very good and some people preffer the oone before

>>730671118
For all its faults SF6 is probably the most accessible one atm in terms of access to information and a good spread of player skill level
You're kinda fucked if you wanna play 3D though, Virtua Fighter is pretty barren and Tekken 8 is in a really bad spot and is currently in a state of limbo waiting to see if the devs can actually fix a lot of the issues they introduced in S2 once they move into S3
>>
>>730671118
easily SF6, most players, best in game tutorial, best value for money with the world tour mode, year 1 and 2 dlc characters got rolled into the base game and so on. I'll give an honorable mention to GBVSR, it's niche but it's easy and fun to play with friends with how easy it is to play.

start with the game boy version of yie ar kung fu, it's in one of the konami classics collection for gbc, i think the 4th one
then move on to street fighter 1
once you can 1cc street fighter 1 then play street fighter 2: the world warrior for like 5-10 minutes to see how shit the entirety of sf2 is, then move immediately to street fighter alpha 1
after you 1cc that, start street fighter alpha 2
once you can 1cc street fighter alpha 2 including beating shin akuma, then you'll be better than 99.99999999% of nu-fighting game players and you can then proceed to play through the street fighter 3 games to learn parrying
once you've mastered parrying you can then go on to win evo in every single game category easily every time
then once you get bored of that you can go lurk in 3rd strike lobbies as a faggot who abuses broken oro gimmicks

>sunk cost fallacy
>not wanting to rug pull the pro scene by reverting major changes midway into a new competitive season (even though basically everyone was asking for them to just change the game)
>likely did not have a build to immediately revert to which would include actual new content/characters of S2 if they ever did want to just immediately revert back
>developer incompetence/ego
pick one
>>
>>730671118
sf6 has a pretty good netcode. Obviously there are bad matches and that's true for every online game and there's no escaping it no matter what you play, but for the vast majority of the matches it's actually kinda scary how smooth it runs.

It also has a pretty big pop for a fighting game which contributes to getting better matches as it's more likely to find people close enough that fit your criteria. I set my matchmaking to only hit with 4-5 bars and it finds matches pretty damn fast (US east coast)
>>
>>730673812
>the players actually rematch unlike Tekken.
Depends on the character. If you're playing say dhalsim, blanka, people don't rematch often.
>>
>>730676770
>popular game and dead game with shit netcode are worth playing
ok buddy.
>>
Ive gone for granblue, actually been having fun
>>
Strive or Tekken 8
I hate how sf feels to play, super slow and lame
>>
>>730672957
>your first fightan should be on fightcade or arkadyzja playing a 10+ year old against people with 20+ years of experience

Your first fightan should be SF6 if you like 2D, Tekken 8 if you like 3D, and Strive if you like anime. Just try them out. Find what you like and then dumpster dive in the rest. Personally I vouch for SF6, it's very noob friendly and likely has the best tutorial in a fightan ever.

>Try again in an hour
>Finally get a match
>45 hit combo into reset I can't see into another 45 hit combo
>Past the 3 hour refund limit
>I am now stuck with Melty
So this is how fighting games make their money
>>
>>730686780
Steam will probably give you the refund if you explain to them the situation.
>>
>>730686780
This is why steamcharts was invented
>>
>>730686780
Nu melty sucks anyway
Download AACC community edition, it's free, a way better game and you can have the same experience but with discord instead of training mode
>>
>>730687792
Does it work on Linux? Does it have ranked or do I have to interact with trannies to get matches?
>>
>>730671118
SF6 is arguably the most casual friendly and has the most players, so go for that.
>>
>>730688315
It does work on Linux through Lutris pretty easily in my experience
There is a matchmaking mode but no one uses it, you have to find people outside the game and make a lobby and have them join it. You can try making a public lobby and seeing if anyone joins but it's pretty rare. People do host in these threads once in a while though. I would right now but I'm not at home so I'm stuck on wifi.

I'd like SF6 if it weren't for the Drive system. I like fighting games but have never been very good at executing combos. I wish there were more fighting games that didn't emphasize combos. Maybe I should try to get into Samurai Shodown.
>>
>>730686780
Try Daemon Bride. Less players than Melty but somehow I get matches in under 5 minutes.
>>
>Dozens of modern fighting games out
>If you don't play one of three specific ones you either get no matches or you get matched up with an SSS+ Grandmaster Champion with 400 hours in the game who effortlessly murders you without you even realizing what's going on
>Since "versus human opponents" is 80% of the meat of the game if you buy any game other than the big three you're basically just wasting money
Fighting games are such a weird genre. Why would any dev bother making one?
>>
>>730691718
Depends on what you’re playing. I can already think of quite a few that definitely ain’t in your list of three that I can find intermediate players on.
>>
>>730691718
The best ones are made by devs that actually love the genre. That doesn’t really happen anymore but there’s plenty of ones still going. +R, BBCF, and 3S especially. I also recommend Daemon Bride since nobody played it in the west until the port.

>>
>>730692497

>>
>>730692497

>>
The biggest problem with fighting game is that every 2D fighting game is copying some Capcom game and every 3D fighting game is copying Virtua Fighter.
>>
>>730693081
They need to copy the older ones
>>
>>730692497
When you think about it fighting games are the ultimate bargain. You spend $89.99 plus tip for an on release AAA fighting game, but you put in 4000 hours of your life into it. That's two cents an hour you're paying for entertainment.
>>
>>730693121
Why do that when SF6 and its shitty system mechanics are extremely popular? What’s actually going to happen is that every 2D fighter will have Drive moving forward until Capcom comes up with an entirely new system mechanic for SF7 in ten years.
>>
>>730693273
Because good games are better than popular bad games
>>
>>730689828

No but it's very accessible and easy to pick up as well as having the most players by far, as well as a single player mode you can sink time into if you want so it's the best option of these if you're just getting started

Largest amount of newbies, actual single player content, and an easy control scheme to learn the game with

I like MK1, but you cannot find matches. It's a dead game. I wish there was a character who played like MK1 Reptile in an active game.
>>
>>730693678
All anime fighters are actually just Vampire Savior.
>>
>>730693718
bro you can't seriously be recommending modern
>>
>>730693818
I really hated the assist thing. I would’ve bought it if I could’ve played Ghostface without a kameo or whatever it’s called. Or if they had another Ghostface as an assist.
>>
>>730693887
You dont even play fighting games
>>
>>730693861
Yknow I’ve heard about vampire savior for ages but never ended up looking at how it plays. I’d be surprised if it has 8 way airdashes that eat projectiles though.
>>
>>730693931
That answer doesn't even make any sense. Who else would dislike modern? How would someone else even know what it is let alone have an opinion on it? Are you okay?
>>
>>730693918
You actually do play as three Ghostfaces at once (I don't watch horror movies so I don't know the lore reason behind it, but I assume there's some plot twist with Ghostface being multiple people). The moves to which you have access change depending on which Ghostface you're playing. But yeah, he's not a kameo option. You still have to use an assist character. I don't like assists either, but aside from mashing in MK1-3 as a kid and randomly playing MK9 at a barcade occasionally, MK1 is the only MK I've put any time into and I really like playing as Reptile. Ghostface is really fun but he's a bit too complex for me. I think it's worth playing MK1 if you like Ghostface and can get it on sale, but like I said the matchmaking is dead.
>>
>>730694038
Vampire Savior invented/popularised:
- Button chains
- Air dashing
- Resource for specials
- Hover dash (think I-No)
- Knockdown chase
- Instant wakeups
And probably other anime shit (including moves and supers that others copied) I forgot about.
>>
>>730672957
autistic faggot advice
>>
>>730694637
Yeah I looked at the trailer and I think I’ll still get it sometime if it’s on a good sale just to mess around
>>
>>730694038
Speaking more seriously obviously not every anime fighter is actually a 1-to-1 copy of Darkstalkers in the same way that not every 2D fighter is just Street Fighter.
But as >>730694721 said anime fighters as a whole can still trace their lineage back to Vampire Savior as easily as every tag game can trace its lineage back to MvC2 (or even further back all the way to X-Men vs Street Fighter)
>>
>>730694721
>And probably other anime shit (including moves and supers that others copied) I forgot about.
How many fighting game characters have Beast Cannon?
>>
>>730671118
Out of these 3? SF6 is the best and has modern controls that are easier to learn. I myself am more of an MK fan but MK1 is utter dogshit. Tekken is fine but it's the hardest to get into from the 3 since it's 3d and the other 2 are 2d.
>>
>>730693628
What alternative is there, though? I don't think the official ports are all that populated, are they?
